Recently becoming one of Amazon’s ‘Artists To Watch’, Anaïs Cardot has received acclaim from tastemakers and artists alike, praised for her unique style and songwriting abilities, influenced by her multilingual roots in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Despite being diagnosed with Arthrogryposis at birth, Cardot’s family nurtured her artistic talents. Inspired by her late father, a radio host and songwriter, and her aunt, she began writing songs at 14, taking influence from her favourite authors to explore self-love and mental health. After moving to Canada for university in 2018, she began to garner a following.
Anaïs Cardot‘s debut EP ‘Pink Magnolia’ was a stunning first outing, a showcase of pure angelic talent across six gorgeous but individual tracks, in its wake, now arrives ‘Pink Magnolia Deluxe’, sharing new tracks with her fans, ‘Soldier’ and ‘Histoire Imaginaire’, the recent single reimagining of ‘Only Heaven’ also getting an inclusion.
The worldwide influence is still on glorious showcase, Anaïs’ multi-lingual abilities allowing her to translate her sound into true homages into genres from across the globe. Her use of acoustic instrumentation, guitar, piano and drums, is infused with a modern, looping feel that brings newfound dynamism, a firework of sonics settling into the kaleidoscope.
‘Soldier’ is the first of the new tracks to provide an insight into the next step of Anaïs’ songwriting journey. The plucky, fast, acoustic bounce comes alongside rattling percussion and powerful vocals, a pop essence injected. ‘Histoire Imaginaire’, in contrast, almost, is almost a gorgeously delicate experience, the distant, dreamlike pianos colliding with reversed melodies and ethereal French lyrics. The last of the project, sends you back into the world with a sense of opportunity, to fall or to fly into the next moment. Beauty is made into sound.
Anaïs shares, “‘Soldier’ is an exploration of control and the desperation to avoid rejection, all framed within the context of a faltering relationship. The song delves into the intense struggle to maintain a connection that fate seems determined to sever. It’s a powerful narrative about clinging too tightly to a love that’s slipping away, despite the universe signaling that it’s time to let go.”
