Synth/dreampop indie duo Big Cat Season unveils their highly anticipated debut EP, (Summer), a lush sonic marker of ’90s nostalgia colliding with adult ennui. Available now on all major streaming platforms, the four-track collection layers sweet and raw analog guitar with soaring harmonies over crisp digital synth arpeggios and immersive soundscapes—capturing the bittersweet push/pull of looking back at endless possibilities while navigating the narrowing road of midlife.

Big Cat Season—Tom Durkin and Melissa Dudek—grew up in the same Boston suburb, lost touch for 17 years, then reconnected through old friends and the enduring spirit of their high school music scene. Their sound is a Myst-like adventure: dreamy, questioning, and deeply human.

“Our first EP (Summer) was entirely written, recorded, produced, and mixed by the two of us,” shares the duo. “Songwriting begins with the intense midlife drive to minimize regret and shape your life from this new vantage point. If youth is wasted on the young, then midlife can’t waste a second more. Right now, the past is fresh and clarifying, the nostalgia is strong, and the future is laid out in hazy, complicated patterns.”

The EP’s lead single, “I’m in the Wrong,” perfectly encapsulates this theme—dreamy questioning nostalgia meeting the uncertain road ahead.

Influenced by their ’90s childhood, the harmonies of Veruca Salt and Alice In Chains, the synth-heavy grooves of LCD Soundsystem, and modern dream-pop icons like MGMT, Department of Eagles, Beach House, and Phantogram, Big Cat Season crafts music that feels both timeless and urgently personal.

Whoever we become, we lay down this music as a marker to who we are now,” the duo adds. “Whatever wisdom our future self holds, we’ll look back on it with new understanding—and, of course, nostalgia.”

Stream (Summer) today and let the nostalgia wash over you.
