Young Love Turning Into Flames in “Burn” by Edie Yvonne

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Edie Yvonne might be only 15 years old, but her music transcends years beyond her age. Her latest pop single “Burn” features a rock vibe to it with the strums of the electric guitar, while maintaining her syrupy sweet vocals throughout the track.

“I wrote this song on a Kalimba that was gifted to me,” shared Yvonne. “And it evolved from there… When someone blows up their life and you are left behind to try to put out the fire…”

For those of you who don’t know what a Kalimba is, it is an African musical instrument with a wooden soundboard and metal keys. Although it is a tiny instrument, its sound is very unique, mellow, and deeply effective.

The song opens up with soft acoustic guitar strums, before Yvonne’s soft vocals ensue to tell a story about lost love being ripped apart. “The fire can’t be tamed,” sings Yvonne, before she switches effortlessly into a falsetto register that is perfected with harmonies in the background complimenting the sound of the song.

The single was released on the same day that Yvonne performed for the very first time in New York City at the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation’s 30th anniversary gala. Her previous releases include “Girl Code” EP which was monumentally released on the same week she started high school. It seems that Yvonne’s releases are not purely coincidental, for every time she puts out a new record, it is in a timely manner with a significant event.

We can only wonder what the next significant date will be, and what song will be released accompanying the event!
