After years of writing for other artists such as Puppini Sisters, Grammy Award winner Joanie Leeds, Hamilton’s Sharon Rose, winning a number of awards (Woman Of The Year 2020 – Freelancer Of The Year- Community Champion Award), and been inducted into the Indie Music Hall of Fame, British singer/songwriter Rachel Walker Mason released her latest EP “Colour Me Violet” in collaboration with Nina Sundstrom, and produced by Bare Wall Studios and Sundstrom.

“Colour Me Violet” is an intimate and personal piece by Rachel Walker Mason, she said about those it “It’s never felt right to give these songs to someone else, with how personal they are to me. They showcase both good times and bad and hopefully people will be able to connect with them too. It really is me baring my soul on this record.” So, let’s dig deeper into it

With raw production and personal, sincere from the heart lyrics Rachel Walker Mason brings her latest EP “Colour Me Violet”. The 11:29 mins EP is an intense emotional trip mainly led by Mason’s smooth voice, her fluid vocal melodies, and heartful lyrics. Starting the EP with the mellow tune “Magpie Heart”, Rachel Walker Mason used clean acoustic guitar chords, her warm voice, and a dynamic floating vocal melody to send a love letter to her husband appreciating his presence in her life.

2nd song “Pieces of You” is more upbeat with a more dynamic beat and mood. The piano chords gave it a deeper sound and the energetic vocal melody made it a big twist after “Magpie Heart”, especially in its catchy chorus. “Grey Man” has dark and sad vibes reflecting its subject, it deals with being in a controlling and draining relationship. The slow and raw guitar arpeggiones mixed with Rachel Walker Mason’s low tone and emotional vocals were perfect for the mood channeling the feelings of the lyrics smoothly to the listener.

“Colour Me Violet” shows how professional Rachel Walker Mason is, she knows how to tell a story and describe her feelings with words and music creating a simple meaningful sonic experience that’s filled with emotions and harmonies. Looking forward to a full-length and more acoustic experimentations from Rachel Walker Mason, cheers!
