The saxophone tunes kick off the track “Darling…” by US-based artist, Samuel Makanda and sends you into another cheerful realm before his vocals add another elated element of positivity. The song dabbles with a number of genres, expanding from EDM to reggaeton, soul, and beyond.
Makanda thanks his lover “from his heart” in the optimistic track that also features female vocals that compliment the sound further. “Music nowadays doesn’t feel inspired; it feels forced,” shares Makanda. “I wanted to create a song that takes it back to rythym, soul, dance and feeling. I want you to feel the music come alive and the importance of instruments in songs.”
“Darling…” is the final track of Makanda’s album “Character Assasination” that carries the same bright vibe throughout the other 11 songs. The independent artist is inspired by 80s and 90s pop icons, which is evident in his music that feels very old school.
Initially released in 2019, the demo took a transformation to reach the stage it is in right now, with the help of Indonesia-based producer, Ricky Alfian. The outro, however, features different people praising Makanda, signing off the album in irrefutable style.
“This song Darling… is about being thankful for life. Being thankful for the things you cherish in life. This song makes you want to move and groove all your emotions into happiness and freedom,” concludes Makanda, and it does make you want to move to the beat, indeed!
