It’s the third collaboration between Steel and vocalist Lyz, following “Nightshift” and “Weight of Dawn,” and it pushes that partnership into noticeably darker territory than either of those earlier tracks.
The choice to use fragments, choppy, gated synth sounds, to convey the descent or gradual fading of the piece is genius; I have to admit, it fits like a glove. Lyz’s vocal is the emotional anchor throughout, carrying a fragile intensity that shifts between quiet vulnerability and something closer to overwhelming despair, never overplaying the drama even as the surrounding production leans fully into gothic atmosphere. At 120 BPM, the track has enough forward motion to avoid feeling static despite how heavy its subject matter is, which keeps it from tipping into pure mood-piece territory.
For anyone drawn to acts like Delerium or Conjure One, “Fading Echoes” delivers exactly that kind of dark, cinematic electronic sound, immersive rather than casual, built for late-night listening rather than background noise. It doesn’t resolve the grief it’s built around, and that refusal to tie things up is ultimately what gives the song its weight.
