It’s difficult to fully grasp what is going on with JMS BRYNT’s latest single. ‘FIU’ is an experiment that sounds exceptionally like nothing else. Bold and undeniably infectious, JMS BRYNT is here with a slow burner that is about to take part in some change happening to rap everywhere.
JMS BRYNT is James Bryant, a Spring Valley based rapper whose experimental tendencies are in full swing with his latest single ‘FIU’. A monotone piece of rap that treads with extreme confidence, given how sparse and minimal it is. With an air conditioner-like hum for pads, providing the track’s single line of harmony, playing one chord, supplemented by a wispy trap beat that’s high on highs, with little lows and mids, BRYNT and his accomplice, the GRAMMY awardee producer Yanni Appleseedz, create a simple yet hypnotic atmosphere that’s unlike anything else. BRYNT’s chipmunk treatment to his delivery, on top of his terrific flows and witty lines, make up the remainder of the short piece’s bravely empty arrangement. You’d be pressed to call ‘FIU’ uninspired, but there’s just so much detail and character there to ignore.
‘FIU’ introduced JMS BRYNT as an interesting new name in rap to say the least. We are now waiting to see where he and his sonically satisfying sound will be going next.
