Synecdoche Montauk’s rich and eclectic blend of folk and electronica returns on the harrowing ang gorgeous ‘From the Beginning’.

A truly one-of-a-kind musical project spearheaded by Savva Rozanov, based in London, born in Moscow, Synecdoche Montauk is a one-man, self-produced project of alternative folk. On Rozanov’s latest single ‘From the Beginning’, the artist’s unforgettable melodies are present, as well as his intricate and swirling compositions, his philosophical words in his native Russian tongue, and finally the rich, well-rounded, and involved mixes.

‘From the Beginning’ has a gorgeous mix that’s loaded with some truly dazzling production cues. The swirling synths and pianos intertwine with layers upon layers of crooning vocal melodies creating mystical soundscapes. The deep subbass is efficiently used to add moments of lush bloom in the sound, and the song’s nuanced composition is twisting and truly inspired. The few, busy turnarounds, with their twisting chord structures, never ceased to catch me off guard, and keep me thoroughly engaged throughout.

The cinematic, multi-layered pianos, stunningly arrayed in the mix and gorgeously produced, introduced Rozanov and convinced him to tackle this new, acoustic sound which, blended with the gorgeous and cold sounds of Russian, end up sounding truly breathtaking. ‘From the Beginning’ is minimal, yet intricate, delicate and stormy, an involved, gorgeously crafted piece of art and folk-pop from a unique musician.
