From the ethnic pull of the far eastern mallets in start, to the sense of occasion instilled by the sound of rain drops, Giardini Oort’s latest single is a sensational trip from the very first moment to the very last.

Giovanni Oort is composed of sound designer and composer Andrea Para, based in the Italian town of Ravenna. A project started by Para to provide listeners with the meditative, relaxing, and soothing atmospheres to alleviate and relieve tension sees itself thrown into the realms of existential philosophy with its latest output ‘Humans’.

‘Humans’ adopts the overarching concept of Stephen Hawking’s concerns about artificial intelligence, exploring the parallels between our behavior and that of viruses, in our relationship with the planet and ourselves. Such deep concepts are thankfully given appropriate musical treatments. The Gravity carried by the initial, ethnic, instrumental backdrop, coupled with sounds of nature, really does create an engulfing atmosphere that is equally pulling and desolate. Then the intricate composition ensues through multiple calculated phases that change from a short piano-led section, to an all out rock one where a bombastic beat is unleashed, mirroring the dramatic and rhythmic weight of the piece.

Masterfully put together, ‘Humans’ might not be as soothing as Giordini Oort likes to say on the tin, but in depth, character, color, and meaning, this release effortlessly delivers.
