Ok, we have an artist called The Loopstationist. Try and guess what the music is like. Done? Do you have your answer? it’s wrong. How about a track called ‘Interstellar Dance’? Can you guess what it would be like? Wrong again.
Giulio De Marco is The Loopstationist, an Italian composer and producer who seems to have fun messing around with his listeners’ perception of his music. With his misleading moniker, De Marco’s music is incredibly plushy and warm. Barely nothing looped here. Instead, a piano-led composition dominated the first third of ‘Interstellar Dance’ before stingy synths and a drum machine groove with tasty, deep pocket kicks in.
Following that comes a torrent of melodic ideas that are sweet and uplifting, and a composition that continues to open up throughout the cut’s runtime. Nothing looped here, yet everything remains collected and gracious. A peaceful piece of cinematic, instrumental piano music.
Growing up with a pianist sister and being surrounded by the instrument played a major role -combined with De Marco’s moonlighting as a software engineer and his passion for music technology- in creating a fully-rounded musician who sticks out. Not like a sore thumb, but like a perfectly reasonable and functioning one. ‘Interstellar Dance’ is a beautifully put-together piece that’s endlessly approachable and easy to love.
