AKS’s latest single is an infinitely tasteful piece of hiphop that’s classically good. Immersive flows, witty bars, a pulling voice, and a genial charisma, AKS is making one beautiful show with ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’ and its visualizer.
AKS, also known as #3Letters, is a London based lyricists, rapper, and musician whose singles have been causing ample stirs recently. After the success of his previous single ‘Seasons Change’, gaining support from Ministry of Sound, BBC 1xtra, and BBC Music, AKS has been slowly and surely gaining traction for months -a traction he is now crowning with the terrific ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’.
The song is defined by its jazzy instrumental, deep-pocketed groove, and a rapping style that’s reminiscent of immortal names, universally appreciated, like Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. AKS is not a copycat though. A healthy influence by the greats have helped AKS find a sound that’s truly admirable and easy to enjoy, while being so individually comfortable to him that he truly shines with each syllable.
The production, done by Lykke Jay, makes use of groovy bass stabs, a slightly syncopated groove, both, together with the warm and timeless sampled horns riff, make for one effectively jazzy and rich atmosphere that is ripe for AKS’s classical rapping.
All in all, ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’ is a calculated and balance piece of hiphop, thoughtfully and capably produced, and lovingly rapped by a witty, authoritative, and talented wordsmith who drips with a cozy charisma that makes every bar flow like liquid honey.
