With a dreamy vulnerable vibe and incredibly catchy chorus, Occupation Baby slays the synthwave-rock music scene with his latest single release, Lights. The Cambridgeshire-based artist released his first single in 2021, and it was more of an indie-rock kind of vibe; but this summer, Occupation Baby brings us an interesting mix of summery, laid back, and chill kind of music but with a relatively profound and deep theme: acceptance.

The lyrics are incredibly relatable; we can even say it’s almost therapeutic. Right from the first few words, “it’s too cold to sleep at night, and to finally breaking down.” I mean, please find me someone who is living on this planet and never felt the same exact way before. You simply can’t! He then continues with the opening section, “I’m not the kind of guy who asks anyone for help.” Damn, that’s loaded! You’ve probably started thinking about all of the trauma and psychological implications that this might have stemmed from, but this tells you exactly how and why the lyrics of this song are just too good. They are just too real and honest. Stripped from all egoistical senses, narcissistic delusions, and any alludes to toxic masculinity. “And if I’m done here, well at least I tried.” Just another brilliant line crafted with a great melody.

Yes, the lyrics are quite deep and emotional, but don’t fool yourself thinking that this is by any means a sad song or a self-loathing kind of track. Nope! Occupation Baby has skillfully crafted an anthem of acceptance perfectly captivated by the dreamy synthwave keys chords used and a guitar line that gives a unique summery vibe to the track. It’s just a combo that is too effective and complements the artist’s vocal performance to deliver an optimistic and uplifting vibe. It just becomes too serene and truly a wholesome inward look into one’s truth.

Lights is definitely a go to for anyone who is looking for a cinematic synthwave kind of song, or for anybody who is looking for a self-soothing song to help them get through life, really. I’d say Occupation Baby has succeeded at bringing us a song that is a pat on the back. Just reminding us to accept all life craziness, enjoy the ride, and to just be kind to ourselves.
