As she started posting music on the internet at the age of 14, Australian singer/songwriter Lara Anderson‘s successful cover of the foundation’s Build Me Up Buttercup in 2018 took her to her next creative step, the release of her debut EP Lovesick on the 11th of August 2023. Lovesick is heartfelt touching EP described by the artist as “an ode to
those who are looking for love with the best of intentions, and lose themselves along the way.”. Let me tell you more about it.
With warm piano and soothing vocals, Lara Anderson opened her EP Lovesick with The Day That I Met You. She softly moves forward with her emotional sound adding beautifully arranged arpeggios and subtle heart-hitting cellos, cementing her authentic sound and pure organic flow. All I Ever Wanted keeps the dark touching mood going while adding extra layers of harmonies and smooth progression to her mix that reinforces her melancholic sound, and carefully setting up an emotional bond with the listeners throughout her streaming words and melodies that won’t be easily broken. Charity builds up on its predecessors’ sound, offering a heartfelt multi-layered arrangement that shows Lara Anderson‘s diverse approaches as she freely mixes her elements producing a different flavor of her mellow dreamy sound, mixed with deep shades of bittersweet melodies in a solid fluid structure that smoothly carries the listeners throughout the EP’s stops. Burden opens with a sharp raw acoustic guitar, offering a new texture to Anderson‘s sound. It has a chill pace as she mixes acoustic chords with piano melodies and tops it all with her magnificent vocals, leading the listeners on a floating musical journey with an escalating dynamic structure that moves slowly but steadily towards a bigger sound that feels like riding waves taking over the listeners’ senses. Don’t Forget To Kiss Me ends the EP with a brighter open sound. It’s a spacious tune where Lara Anderson took the needed time and space to project her beautiful vocal melodies and while it moves forward, layers of sweet orchestrations and atmospheric harmonies were added making it the perfect ending for such an emotional sonic journey.
Lovesick has a dreamy sound with a dark layer and fluid melodies, showing Lara Anderson‘s attention to detail in her multi-layered writing and her well-knowledge of her sound and direction. I’ll be looking forward to more from you Lara Anderson, keep on rocking. Cheers!
