When you listen to a cover song, you naturally compare each part to the original track. Melbourne-based singer Maria Pellicano truly captured the essence of ‘Perdere L’amore’ right from the first verse.

For those who may not know, ‘Perdere L’amore’ was first released and composed by the legendary Italian pop singer, Massimo Ranieri in 1988. Over the years, numerous iconic artists have covered the song, such as Lara Fabian, André Hazes, Mino Reitano, Pietro Ballo, and Thiago Arancam, among others.

Maria Pellicano, a versatile professional in singing, teaching, communication, and voice coaching, as well as an author, recently mesmerized us with an unforgettable soft rock rendition of ‘Perdere L’amore.’ Her captivating vocals immediately resonated with me from the very first note. Despite not understanding Italian, the seamless blend of music and singing style effortlessly conveyed the song’s essence, portraying a tale of heartache and lost love. The lyrics depict a man grappling with loneliness and the aftermath of a breakup. Maria’s rendition, especially when her vocals soar, accompanied by a poignant guitar solo, evoked a deep sense of sorrow, reminiscent of personal experiences we’ve all encountered.

She was reluctant to perform the track, but the arrangement was the primary reason for her to proceed with this experience. “I didn’t want to imbue myself with the lyrics of this song, but the musical arrangement and dynamic were so inspiring that, I just could not let it go. As I accepted the challenge of meaning, I became willing to make the song come alive by connecting to the lyrics and by finding the story inside of me.” – Maria Pellicano.

During the recording sessions, she underwent a transformative experience. Maria expressed, “I found great joy in learning and recording this song as it pushed me emotionally to explore hidden aspects of my life and enhanced my vocal skills.”

The much-anticipated release of Maria Pellicano’s rendition of ‘Perdere L’amore’ is scheduled for March 4, 2024, on all streaming platforms. Save the date for this exceptional piece of music that is a true gem in today’s musical landscape. Cheers!
