Known for her introspective contemporary jazz, Rowan Flack has emerged from South London as a Brit alumna with an intricate new direction for soulful pop. Dreamy moments in tracks such as ‘Tipsy on The Tongue’ have seen acclaim from a range of music press, tipping Rowan as one to watch.
The lauded single is joined by other previous singles ‘Let It All Go’ and ‘Strawberries in the spring’ on Rowan’s new EP ‘Forest Fires’. Fresh compositions in the title track and emotional single ‘Sun Song’ are added into the mix to complete its five-song tracklist. Rowan delivers evocative performances throughout, whether taking on melancholic orchestral ballads or enticing pop grooves. Instrumental features from the likes of Joel Waters, Jack Lecomber and Deschanel Gordon, all established jazz session players, bring an added warmth and richness to the project, igniting Rowan’s life-filled songwriting with a glowing fire.
Rowan gives an insight into the title track, “The track was written with Brazilian bassist Dinho Barral during a Help Musicians writing week with Squeeze’s Chris Difford. We were very much inspired by Esperanza Spalding’s music, groove-inspired with lots of layers. I also took some influence from Astrud Gilberto’s sound, her effortless delivery and gentle tone.”
