Praised by the music press and supported by Spotify’s Fresh Finds. The unveiling of his indie pop sound comes after years away from music, pursuing a career in Television. Back in 2016, however, Samuel went viral for a Facebook-posted cover, leading to performances on BBC One to raise money for Children In Need, winning several local awards.
Samuel Evanson, Welsh-born turned Liverpool local hero has now unveiled his debut album ‘We Are Meant To Break The Rules’, and what a sentiment the title is. Those seven words truly capture the feeling of the project, the indie feel and blend of pop glitter and rock grit evoking a sense of recklessness, emotions running high and unbridled passion.
Each track is a pocket of storytelling, the late nights, the parties and most importantly, the aftermath each getting their sound shown in vivid kaleidoscopic clarity. The tunnel vision of the moment is steady and thoughtful, Samuel honing in on his emotions to portray them in such a way that the audience feels them just as hard. The gorgeously bright production, comprised of elegant, twinkling guitars, rich synth pads and punchy drums brings the perfect backdrop to his lyricism.
“For some of the album I talk about the worst times of my life and for some,” Samuel shares “I talk about the best. Even looking back at the worst times it made me who I am and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
