Their unique sound has earned international acclaim, with songs featured in commercials including Mercedes-Benz, TV shows, and movies worldwide. Formed in 2006, the duo originally included Melvin (aka Deep Soul School), who passed away unexpectedly in 2015. Azoughn joined after being introduced through Melvin, initially providing background vocals on previous albums, and has since become a key collaborator, infusing their music with soulful passion.
“This song is about the tragic loss of life being swept away from the flood waters during the storm,” shares Jon Dash. “It’s about the loss of life that can be related to any storms that took the life of folks in the destructed path of the storm. This track relates to anyone who has had a loss in their life. The stories that have been shared really gave us the reason to write this ballad.”
Recorded at Dizzle Land USA, “Swept Away” marks a significant evolution for For You Brother, as it’s the first time they’ve incorporated piano into their songwriting process. Jon Dash enjoyed playing all the instruments in this new style, which differed from their usual approach. The track was mixed and mastered by Bizzo in Columbia, SC, where Azoughn also tracked her emotive vocals.
As they look ahead, For You Brother is planning live performances for 2025. Jon Dash, a Berkeley School of Music alumnus and member of the Recording Academy since 2012, emphasizes their artistic philosophy: “Play from your Heart and sing from your soul.”
