Getting past the jangly sweetness of Starbloom’s ‘1969’ we found a gem of a folk tune that’s impeccably made, lovingly, and with true palpable passion. Starbloom is the kind of artist to take a one banjo riff, repeat it for 10 minutes on a simplistic beat and a minimal number of melodies, and leave you thirsty for more.
Starbloom is Garrison, a 20-year old singer and songwriter from Virginia. Starbloom is a self-produced artist who takes exceptional pride in his art and in how he builds it from the ground up in his home studio and how much enjoyment he gains in the process. Quite wholesome. But wait until you listen to ‘1969’ for this wholesomeness to immediately double.
Having a few stories set during the space race lying around, Starbloom gathered them, stitched them together into an anthology of sorts, came up with the loveliest banjo riff, a groove that is outstandingly deep pocketed, and a progression that seems to perpetually climb upwards like a shepherd tone, and ‘1969’ was born. A sweet piece of the peppiest folk pop, ‘1969’ is the kind of song that is approachable enough to be used for a yoghurt commercial but get you looking it up right away to get hooked on it for days to come.
An extremely fun piece of music from a superb talent. Starbloom is the next big thing in my book.
