Making her debut, nineteen-year-old London-based songwriter Angel Murray takes multi-genre influences from Ariana Grande to Men I Trust and builds a rich emotional depth around her pop aesthetic. Set on crafting vulnerability and intimate storytelling Angel begins to build a fanbase that will only grow as time goes on.
Debuting with a pair of singles that find themselves in between an ethereal pop landscape, a raw rock momentum and an R&B aesthetic, Angel Murray‘s ‘Somewhere Else / Angels’ shows the promise of an artist to watch, hitting the ground running with clean production, unique tones and fierce confidence in her performance. The plucky introduction of ‘Somewhere Else’ leads listeners into a dark yet emotive soundscape, the punchy guitar chord accents and distorted bass finding themselves enchanted by haunting vocal harmonies. All the while, the lead line is trying to find its way through a forest of harmony, internally battling between vulnerable and powerful until it fully joins the darkness that surrounds it.
The track leads directly into ‘Angels’, which shows Angel Murray with a newfound intensity, her melodies moving alongside a roaring bass line. The title seems to come in direct contrast to the sonic tapestry, the shadowy distortions pulsing into a masked vocal performance. Endlessly confident and has an impressive first outing, keep an eye on Angel Murray.
Angel shares, “Each song I write is an experience that I intend to share with my listeners. Every single lyric is drawn from an emotion, to portray a universal feeling…regardless of how personal I get with my songs, it still pans out to be incredibly relatable which I think is really amazing. It’s that skill, that passion that goes into my songs which when I put them out, will always be open to interpretation; yes it stems from my story but that doesn’t and shouldn’t ever mean that it can’t reflect someone else’s, and I love that about my music.”
