Making her first impact as far back as 2018, picked up by BBC Introducing for her single ‘Tides of Life’, Jay Moussa-Mann has continued to be championed across the industry. Supporting the likes of Serious Sam and Jodie Nicholson and making appearances at ARC Stockton and Tall Ships Races, Jay continued to build a presence, in 2022 making another major step joining the Co-Pilot mentoring scheme. Funding from Help Musicians and mentoring from jazz artist Martha D Lewis led to her eponymous debut album. In 2024, her recent song ‘Ghosts’ racked up over 100k plays on Instagram Reels and saw widespread press and radio coverage.
Jay Moussa-Mann‘s latest track, ‘Tangled’ arrives as a sonic story of the all-consuming, enchanted passion of a romance at its peak, finding yourself inextricably intertwined with someone else and almost drowning in the excitement of it all. Jay also plays into her themes an underlying feeling of ‘Is this too good to be true?’.
This dichotomy is delivered over sparkling synths, Jay’s signature alternative-indie-pop blend filled with a blinding radiance from across the arrangement. The bright guitar grooves are balanced with soaring lead lines and cascading beeps. Above all else, Jay unveils a passionate vocal performance, the high-energy fast-paced emotional journey captured in her constantly pushing melodies, at the perfect speed to lead the listener by the hand into a love-drenched heaven.
Jay explains, “I wanted to create a song that really captured Turkish summers for me, I spent my childhood there, so it never felt like I was ‘going on holiday’ when summer arrived. It was part of my life, the burning sands, the cicadas, the people. It was who I was.
I’ve never been super confident on guitar, especially electric but I saw this as a challenge and so I kept playing around with Guitar Rig 6 and my Squier Stratocaster until I had these very simple riffs layered up and suddenly, it sounded like what I was hearing in my head. It sounded like the Mediterranean.”
