The ever-sweet 16-year-old Hannah Drew, who goes by the stage name “Hazel” just released her second single this year ‘Evolve’. A beautiful and sweet high schooler who has had a passion for music since she was 3 years old, she started her musical journey early on and participated in musicals and performances at school.
Her mother helped her start by playing the piano and then she expanded her musical skills further to vocals and guitar. The artist became fascinated by songwriting at the age of 13 after watching Grace VanderWaal’s performance on AGT, that was when she decided to take lessons in music production and take her music to the next level.
Her songwriting aesthetic Is mainly influenced by the likes of Taylor Swift, Dodie, AURORA, Hozier, and Chloe Moriondo because of how relatable and authentic their lyrics are.
“Evolve” was written and produced by the artist herself, along with the instruments played and the sound effects used. She recorded it in her own bedroom using Logic pro and her own recording gear. The song starts with a beautiful, vibrant vocal line along with an acoustic guitar vibe, a simple and personal sound which was later elaborated on with a drumline sound effect, keyboard sound playing chords in the background, and eventually the sound effect of a virtual choir accompanying the female vocals. It’s mainly about the artist’s crush whom she couldn’t summon up the courage to talk to; she felt scared to approach her and tell her exactly how she felt.
With 2 single releases this year, “Evolve and “inner self” and more to come, we wish the artist a successful journey ahead given her strong passion and determination.
