“I really do” is the latest single by UK pop-rocker Martyn Scott. The song mixes a bunch of pop elements with a rock-ish twist.
The song starts with a nice and smooth chord progression and a very characteristic bassline. The drum machine sounds a lot like 80s pop-rock anthems, meanwhile, the vocals sound intimate and focused…creating more of a modern rock feel.
Speaking of the vocals, they maintain a level of nasality and softness on the higher parts at the end of the verse and the refrain…Martyn seems to be in touch with his belting range and mixed voice technique. The chorus sounds much more dreamy than the verses, so the anticipation for it is really high.
There was a surprise waiting for us… a fantastic guitar solo. With the song’s accessibility and pop-rock feel I wasn’t expecting such an overdriven effect on the guitar solo, but here we are with the icing on the cake.
All in all, this song is super likable and sticks in your head the first time you’ll hear it. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of 80s pop-rock.
