SPACIAL REGGAE? ARE WE LISTENING TO A COMPLETELY NEW FEEL AND GENRE?

Blending retro nostalgia with an unmistakable twist, Luv U Bad by Progress and producer Bobby Boyd stands out as a fusion of 80s dancehall energy and modern, experimental production. While firmly rooted in reggae traditions, the track introduces a distinctive atmosphere that, to me, feels like stepping into a sci-fi-inspired soundscape; a spacial, futuristic vibe that elevates the genre into uncharted territory.

The production is where this cosmic element shines. Bobby Boyd’s signature psychedelic flair is complemented by live drum and bass, shimmering effects, and ethereal tones, creating a soundscape that feels both expansive and immersive. While these space-like qualities might be my personal interpretation, there’s no denying that the song pushes boundaries.

Progress brings it all together with melodic flows and clever lyrics, delivering a vocal performance that’s stylish, catchy, and undeniably engaging. His delivery balances the innovative edge of the track with a relatable warmth, ensuring it resonates with fans of both classic and modern reggae.

As part of Progress’s Vibe Album, one half of the double album Mood & Vibe, Luv U Bad captures the essence of merging eras and experimenting with sound. While the concept of “Spacial Reggae” is purely my take, this track feels like an evolution of the genre, hinting at exciting possibilities. Whether it’s a new frontier or a fresh twist, Luv U Bad is a testament to the artistry of Progress and Bobby Boyd, making it a must-listen.
