Anton Commissaris’s latest single has Munich more than what initially meets the eye, and that’s plenty enough already.
The Menlo Park native Anton Commissaris is a passionate jazz pianist whose music is warm and intimate and comfortingly old-times. His latest single, titled Mission of Love, is an exercise in making 1930s music in 2023, and this is achieved with ample and wholesome levels of humor and soul, making it never sound like a broken record or a repetition of something.
Our protagonist is a hopeless romantic, determined to leave a mark and impress a fair lady he has eyes on. The adventures he undertakes to do this make him fail over and over again, but he keeps returning back to his feet regardless, in a show of (a bit manic) dedication, that leaves us torn between rooting for the helpless guy, admiring him for his unerring devotion, or to root for the lady instead, wishing for her to be able to escape this humorous chase, as her pursuer seems a little too dedicated. The musical adventure is no less compelling or exciting. Particularly the punchy and masterful drums. The honky-Toni piano is colorful and sweet, and Anton’s voice is relatable, accessible, and has a very comforting character.
A sweet and simple offering from a masterful jazz pianist and composer. Full of humor and musical panache that’s sure to leave a smile on your face. Give Mission of Love a try and you’ll immediately add it to your jazz playlist.
