The return of the Swedish, cheekily-named Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends is a piece of immaculate, groovy, vintage-inspired pop-funk that aims for a 70s sound and succeeds with flying colors.
Based in Stockholm, Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends is the solo project of singer and songwriter Arne Floryd, part of the Swedish band Redmoon. This project launched in the summer of 2020 and has since released a full-length album and a healthy handful of singles. With a high standard of quality and professional attention to detail, Arne’s music has been consistently successful in delivering precious musical moments that vary from the rocking to the grooving, and all the way to the funky, and his latest single, titled My Favorite Song, leans a little towards the funky end of the spectrum.
Going for a 70s disco sound, a-la Chic or ABBA, the rich violins in the background, or the lush, blaring horns in the forefront of the arrangement both add terrific depth to the atmospheres of this thoughtful piece of music. The lyrics talk about how life can be pretty tough, but still retain beauty in its small things, like Arne’s favorite song playing on the radio. The sweet words mixed with the funk guitar and the immaculate drum groove courtesy of Andreas Quincy Dahlback, all add up for an end result that’s cheerful, upbeat, and with a delicious, prominent hint of retro funk.
Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends’ latest song is a beautiful bit for an early summer fit of nostalgia, and just like everything they’ve been delivering for close to three years now, it’s a solid and endlessly replayable piece of good music.
