0

[Vancouver, BC, Nov. 7, 2024] – Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Geoff Gibbons has released his new single, “Beautiful Broken Things.” Known for his soulful melodies and poetic lyrics, Gibbons’ latest track dives deep into the beauty found in imperfection, highlighting themes of resilience, love, and redemption.

“Beautiful Broken Things” is a heartfelt reflection on life’s scars and the grace that can arise from embracing them. With lines like “We’re beautiful, broken though we are” and “We never sold our wings,” Gibbons captures the essence of human fragility while celebrating the strength found in vulnerability. The song pairs raw, emotional storytelling with his signature folk-rock sound, creating an anthemic piece that resonates with listeners on a deeply personal level.

“Everyone has their battle scars,” says Gibbons. “This song is about honoring those experiences—about acknowledging the mistakes, the missed chances, and the moments we can’t take back, while recognizing that through it all, there’s always another day, and we are all in essence still beautiful.”
“Beautiful Broken Things” also reflects Gibbons’ unique ability to meld folk sensibility with elements of rock and Americana. His heartfelt vocals bring an emotional authenticity to the lyrics, while the rich instrumentation evokes imagery of long roads, open skies, and the weight of shared experiences.
Following up his previous releases, the new single continues to solidify Gibbons’ place as one of Vancouver’s standout singer-songwriters. Whether you’ve been following his music for years or are new to his sound, “Beautiful Broken Things” will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.

Guido Affini: A Research-Based Approach to Unconventional Sound

0

Italian multi-disciplinary composer, sound designer and artist Guido Affini takes a decidedly fresh and uncompromising approach to his work, with his compositions being born of a research-based ambient matrix of his own creation. His diverse influences are born from contemporary music, ambient music, idm, post rock and drone to free jazz and noise. The experimental matrix of his research is contaminated with esoteric elements and principles belonging to alternative sciences.

When listening to Guido’s art, it is immediately apparent that there are no voice boxes or feedback engines contributing to or demeaning the expression. Guido embraces a post-genre spirit, taking risks and utilizing any tool that inspires.

His latest release is the mesmerizing piece “Lulla” featuring his friend and collaborator Federico Fantuz as a guitarist. Lulla by is a soundtrack created for “Nothing”, a show by the ballet theater company Balletto Civile / Michela Lucenti.

Guido Affini, composer and sound designer of this Shakespearean drama, improvises with Electronics, granular and modular Synth and invites guitarist and producer Federico Fantuz to create a climax by playing on the original soundscape of the show.

The result is an ambient crescendo with electronic and post rock influences.

WELL, STELLA IS ABSOLUTELY EATING WITH THIS RELEASE!

Stella Nesci’s latest single, “Over You Under Me,” is proof that the early 2000s pop revival is alive and well, and she’s leading the charge! Hailing from East Syracuse, Nesci has crafted a catchy, heartfelt anthem that dives into the complexities of giving your all in a relationship while receiving little in return. Inspired by the lyrical style of Tate McRae, Stella manages to balance emotional vulnerability with irresistible hooks, making this track a standout in today’s pop landscape.

The production on “Over You Under Me” is nothing short of stellar. With Steve Brown, renowned for his work with artists like Drake and Lil Tjay, at the helm, the track captures a polished yet nostalgic sound that transports listeners back to the golden era of pop. Recorded at Syracuse Sound, the song also benefits from the expert touch of Roman Styx, an Apple Digital Masters-certified engineer from Argentina, whose professional mixing and mastering elevate the track’s glossy finish.

Nesci’s storytelling truly shines in the chorus, delivering an emotional punch that resonates with anyone who’s ever felt like they were pouring themselves into a relationship without reciprocation. This universal theme, coupled with her fresh take on retro-pop melodies, ensures the song’s broad appeal.

But it wasn’t just the song itself that made waves. Nesci’s journey through the recording process sounds like a dream come true. She recalls working with Brown and his team, laughing over pop culture slang like “eat,” which inspired inside jokes during the session. By the end, Stella wasn’t just eating, she was serving!

Fans of Nesci can look forward to a live performance of “Over You Under Me” at Syracuse’s iconic venue Funk N Waffles this February. If this release is any indication, Stella Nesci is on a fast track to becoming pop’s next big thing. Get ready to press replay, because Stella is absolutely eating, and we’re all here for the feast!

THERE IS NOTHING AS POWERFUL AND INSPIRATIONAL AS NATURE!

Monofonique’s latest track, Of The North, is a stunning tribute to the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Europe, channeling the beauty of its untamed wilderness into a mesmerizing sonic experience. This song is a journey that immerses the listener in a lush atmosphere that evokes the serenity of Northern Europe’s landscape with its shimmering lakes, and the crisp northern air.

What makes Of The North truly unique is its seamless integration of natural elements into the production. Subtle sounds of birdsong and the gentle flow of water weave through the melody, creating a sense of place that feels as vivid as it is soothing. These organic accents enhance the track’s dynamic character, inviting listeners to close their eyes and lose themselves in a meditative exploration of their own inner landscapes.

Built around a haunting yet simple melody, the song’s structure is fluid and elegant. Monofonique proves that there’s nothing as inspirational as nature; and that its beauty can resonate deeply with listeners, no matter where they come from!

Die Young by Lexa Terrestrial

0

Lexa Terrestrial come across as soft, ambient, and alternative on their latest single, the subdued and colorful ‘Die Young’, a sweetly dark song with a profound meaning and a lasting impact to both its sound and its video.

‘Die Young’ is a heartbreaking song that’s based on a too real story, performed by the New York-based emo artist Lexa Terrestrial. The song, talking about the dire effects and scale of medical maltreatment in the United States, is directly based on Lexa’s not-too-pleasant healthcare journey treating her rare condition, which left her at the mercy of a broken system that caused her more harm than good.

‘Die Young’ is a contemplative and gentle R&B piece with exquisite colors. The slow tempo sets a perfectly somber mood alongside the sparkling guitar arpeggio that runs throughout the song. on top of them, or rather perfectly in between them, we have Lexa Terrestrial’s restrained but soulful vocals. Her melodic delivery is low and pushed back in the mix, making it more of a structural element to the song, another heartbeat to the track next to the nuanced trap beat.

The results are stunning. Soft, heartfelt, and touching. An exquisitely balanced song that’s loud through its lyrics and emotive delivery, ‘Die Young’ showcases a superb array of talents from a thoroughly eccentric and outstanding artist.

TaniA Kyllikki’s vibes are absolutely feel-good on her latest single. An eclectic blend of 80s sputtering synths and 00s pop drama, ‘Feel Good Vibes’ is an insanely catchy pop single that’s just easy to love.

An English singer and songwriter, TaniA Kyllikki is based in Berkshire, and her music is just imploring us to celebrate life. Through colorful mixing, an assortment of styles and sounds, TaniA Kyllikki’s songwriting is easily eccentric and is also effortlessly charming. Her latest single features such a varied mix of approaches that is just begins to be confusing, before the soaring hook hits and it becomes a terrific pop single once more.

The bittersweet composition on the song’s chord sequences is met with an equally touching set of vocal melodies that explore TaniA Kyllikki’s astounding range with challenging belts and sustained high notes. Throughout, Kyllikki remains in control, and her voice remains a consistent force that drives the song forward. A short rap section is charming, and the rich mix of synths that goes decade-hopping make the song’s instrumental palette truly engaging.

‘Feel Good Vibes’ is a song that celebrates life with colors, sounds, and a certain lightheartedness that peaks through the song’s vocal soars and eccentric festivity. A positive and reaffirming piece of pop.

EP: Three by Owen Young

0

Owen Young’s Three, the third chapter in his four-part album Muddy River, is a deeply introspective and emotionally charged EP that stands as a departure from its predecessors. While On A Day Like That and Town Line offered rich Americana storytelling steeped in nostalgia and rural landscapes, Three emerges as a raw and contemplative collection born of the pandemic’s upheaval.

Comprising only three tracks—a letter, a lament, and a rant—this EP encapsulates themes of love, frustration, and societal reckoning. Young’s reflective lyricism explores the personal and universal in equal measure, addressing pressing issues like homelessness, colonialism, and lost ideals. The songs serve as both a critique of rampant self-interest and a plea for compassion, weaving narratives that challenge listeners to confront uncomfortable truths while finding hope within them.

“Voices in the Dust” is a stirring opener, an ode to resilience and justice. Written as a tribute to a friend who has spent his life advocating for human rights, the track blends poignant storytelling with evocative melodies. Lines like “We met the ghosts of the old ones there / They chose you by ancient design” highlight Young’s ability to connect the past, present, and future through poetic introspection.

“Runnin’ Down the River” follows with a lament for lost opportunities. Set against a backdrop of the Sixties’ ideals and the environmental destruction of modern times, the song carries a bittersweet tone, reflecting on humanity’s failure to fulfill its potential. Its lyrical depth, paired with understated instrumentation, underscores Young’s knack for capturing the weight of collective disillusionment.

The EP closes with “That Could Have Been You,” a seven-minute plea for empathy. Co-written with Harry LaForme, the song tells stories of those marginalized by society—homeless individuals, survivors of colonial violence, and victims of abuse. Its haunting refrain, “Before you judge another living a life they didn’t choose, imagine yourself walking in their shoes,” resonates deeply, making it the EP’s emotional core.

Three encompasses thoughtful arrangements and understated melodies that carve the way for the raw honesty of his lyrics, creating an experience that feels both timeless and immediate. As part of the Muddy River saga, this EP amplifies Young’s voice as a storyteller committed to shining a light on humanity’s complexities. It is a must listen, indeed!

EP: World Over by Intercontinen7al

0

Few projects capture the essence of global unity quite like World Over, the latest EP by INTERCONTINEN7AL. This ambitious release, recorded virtually over four years, brings together 21 musicians from every corner of the globe—Antarctica included—to produce a collection of five genre-defying tracks. The result is a testament to the power of collaboration in the digital age, where boundaries dissolve, and creativity thrives.

At its core, World Over reflects the unique soundscape shaped by the band’s diverse lineup, which draws inspiration from icons like Pearl Jam, Tool, Prince, and The Beatles. From the haunting acoustic tones of “Night Shift,” which opens with a chilling guitar riff recorded on Antarctica’s icy terrain, to the Latin-infused energy of “No Somos De Este Lugar,” the EP traverses an array of musical landscapes. Progressive rock, bossa nova, acoustic balladry, and hard rock all converge seamlessly, creating a vivid mosaic of global influences.

What sets this EP apart is its innovative creation process. Born out of the COVID-19 lockdowns, INTERCONTINEN7AL began as a project by members of the Maryland-based band Toast, who sought to keep making music despite live performance limitations. Utilizing BandLab, a digital platform for remote music collaboration, the group expanded beyond their local circle to recruit talent from every continent. This ambitious endeavor even included reaching out to researchers stationed in Antarctica, securing a truly unprecedented global lineup.

Each track on World Over represents the collective effort of musicians working across time zones and cultural boundaries. For instance, “Manor Hill,” a sprawling progressive rock piece, stands as a historical milestone as the first song ever to feature instrumentation recorded on all seven continents. Meanwhile, songs like “When I’m Gone” and “Aslin” (transformed into “No Somos De Este Lugar”) showcase the band’s ability to blend styles and languages into cohesive and dynamic arrangements.

Technically, the EP shines with expert mixing and production, largely handled by Matthew Smith (USA) and Marcin Nawrocki (Poland), who utilized BandLab’s chat and file-sharing features to refine the final sound. The recording process itself was equally groundbreaking, with musicians contributing from home studios and rented spaces using an assortment of digital audio workstations and interfaces.

INTERCONTINEN7AL’s achievement is not just a musical triumph but a testament to human connection and ingenuity. In an age where virtual collaborations are increasingly common, World Over sets a new benchmark, proving that music has no borders, no barriers, and, without a doubt, no limits either!
