The latest single from Australian singer-songwriter John Leslie is called ‘The History Of Sugar’ and it’s a wonderful and catchy masterpiece.
The track begins with some brightly toned cleaned guitars in a nice blend of soft rock, latino, pop, and many other influences. John’s vocals are grounded and powerful, with a great use of his chest voice and at other points head voice and mixed voice as well.
The bass line is clear, thanks to the amazing production, and you can hear the saxophone that gives off some jazz/swing vibes too. I’m in love with how all those elements are blended well and feel like they belong together.
All in all, the song’s guitars and percussions will remain in your head for days. The use of the sax is unconventional for such a song but you will really feel like you love it on first listen. I truly love the way John’s vocals move with the track’s emotions and feel dynamic enough to carry the song’s emotional impact. This is a 10/10 release that I recommend to everyone.
