Texan Jay Roecker has been spreading like wildfire for months now. With each release being more polished and ambitious than the one before, we approached his latest collaboration, a single titled ‘Thicker Than Blood’ with perked ears.
Based in Austin, Texas, the bilingual Jay Roecker is a singer, songwriter, and a pop artist. He has been at it for more than a decade now, creating and releasing music in band format, as well as a solo artist. I first got acquainted with Roecker over his release in earlier 2023 ‘Electronic Symphonic’, and I remember being positively impressed by his sensibilities and his knack of fusing all out electronica with pop, as well as his vulnerable and tender vocal deliveries.
On this release, ‘Thicker Than Blood’ takes on a cinematic guise. Still an electronica/pop blend, ‘Thicker Than Blood’ displays a flair of drama via a throbbing sub bass part, a driving groove of epic groove and a slow, brooding tempo, a bittersweet chord structure, and an atmosphere drenched in reverb. The lyrics concerning Roecker’s acknowledgment of close relationships in his life are easy to feel and get absorbed into, and his deliveries are as delicate and as present as ever.
Another simply solid release from Jay Roecker who is proving with each consecutive drop that he is a capable songwriter who is capable of a wide range of styles. We don’t know where Roecker is planning to go with his sound next, but with ‘Thicker Than Blood’ as a reference in quality, we are sure he won’t go anywhere bad.
