Debuting in 2023 with her single ‘Slay’, Zito immediately caught the attention of music media thanks to her dark neo-soul sound. Follow-up ‘Please Don’t Leave Me’, showcased intense vulnerability and began to build anticipation for her debut EP.
Now, that debut EP has arrived. ‘Wanna See Red’ is an open letter to the world, Zito solidifying herself as one to watch for 2024. Six tracks in length, Zito stretches from choppy sampling and hard-hitting bass lines on ‘Gutterlove’ to soulful, tension-building emotion on ‘Witchcraft’. It’s eclectic in arrangement and defies an easy genre categorisation. However, Zito’s distinctive, defenceless and confident attitude towards her vocal performances ties the project together, as she effortlessly weaves flowing melodies into gorgeous atmospheres.
“I am so ecstatic that we finally get to share this project with the world. These songs were all experiments in production, where I wanted to capture atmosphere and imagery in the sound and create a sonic landscape unique to each one. Hopefully listeners are transported the way I was working on them.
