Dreamy, funky, groovy, sensual, meaningful, and fun! Tabi Kate’s latest single is a flawless gem of angelic, nostalgic pop that will readily get your body swaying along.

The Brighton-based Tabby Betts is a talented singer/songwriter with vision and direction. She and her band come together for rehearsals and gigs, but her solo artist project “Tabi Kate” is a full-fledged collaboration with Taegan Venner, a guitarist, producer, and arranger who’s responsible for the entirety of this song’s instrumentation.

For Empty Pillow, Tabi was inspired by the radiant pop of The 1975. Their song ‘Somebody Else’ in particular was a major influence in the inception of Empty pillow, with its vibrant, dance-y drums, upbeat melodies and chords, and airy soundscapes. Especially notable is the fantastic sound of the drums. A vintage, 80s-inspired kit was chosen to go along with the major direction for Disco in the arpeggiated synth melodies. The bouncing bass passages are also something to wait for and appreciate as they perfectly compliment that snappy, metallic snare. Tabi’s performance is smooth and elegantly peppy. Serene, angelic, and effortless, the richly layered vocal part is a massive part in dealing us the succulent vintage pop vibes. A gorgeous, soaring guitar solo bookends the song with an amazing selection of rocking phrases, and a creamy, overdriven tone that further elevates this pretty piece’s whole aesthetic.

A sensual song that tells us all that on our journey for self-discovery, we should all hang on to our empty pillow rather than that one person that holds us back and doesn’t quite give us the fulfillment we deserve, and it does so in a lighthearted manner that will get you dancing, then rocking.
