Soul Session by Proklaim

0

The latest release from the infinitely bountiful Namibian phenomenon Proklaim herald, as usual, a brand-new sound for him. On ‘Soul Session’, Proklaim is changing skin by going to a rather old-school hip-hop sound.

Namibian artist Proklaim is based in the Namibian capital Windhoek. A rapper through and through, Proklaim is one of Africa’s most active and fastest rising stars. With a steady stream of new releases, Proklaim’s output has been of a uniform quality and of a plentiful, consistent nature. He always stuns with his fluid flows and his rhythmically engaging rapping, and his seemingly fluent ability to shapeshift alongside his music and beats, bringing us soul, latin, afro, calypso, and much more.

On ‘Soul Session’, Proklaim’s latest single and experiment, Proklaim is delivering an old-school, east coast groove and a cool, descending line to support his usual, acrobatic delivery. The production is on spot with its grainy nature and uber-compressed beat, transforming us right back to the late 90s when soul rap was all the rage with legendary figures like 2Pac.

‘Soul Session’ is one more fresh and engaging little rap track that showcases yet another of Proklaim’s musical ideas, and his trademark fitting execution.

Tommy al Lunapark by GIANTHEO

0

GIANTHEO’s latest single is a stunning piece of pop. Touching and melodic with a certain warm intimacy behind its lyrics and the experiences they discuss, ‘Tommy al Lunapark’ is a fantastic new release from the Italian pop outfit.

Based in Brescia, Italy, GIANTHEO are an outfit that have been having sizable acclaim for a couple of years, including 3 top ten singles in the independent charts. They are now back with a song about Matteo Sainaghi’s son Tommaso, Sainaghi being the THEO is the outfit’s name. Tommaso is 9 years old, and ‘Tommy al Lunapark’ is written from his father’s point of view about a day spent with him in the amusement park.

The words describe Tommy’s dreams and experiences as a child, and the accompanying music perfectly fits the concept. The melodic piano arpeggio has a certain child-like flair. Innocent and upbeat, the piano line and the hopeful chords are a great accompaniment to the processed voice rapping on top. The blend of the conventional sounding piano with the infinitely airy vocals does add a unique quality to the track. A fusion that I have not encountered before for sure.

‘Tommy al Lunapark’ is warm and pretty, yet cool and punchy. A solid mix showcases why GIANTHEO have had 3 singles charting in one year, and an unusual mix of musical cues displays their boldness.

Album: INSIDE OUT by ALi

0

ALi’s music is a great example of sensible emo. Making without the genre’s overly dramatic antics, ALi’s music is relatable and melodic, with fantastic production and musical cues that kept me wanting more, INSIDE OUT is a rewarding listen that kept on giving throughout its relatively lengthy runtime.

An artist, a singer and a songwriter based in Dallas, Texas, ALi is a multi-cultured musical juggernaut that’s not afraid of bold musical experimentation or direct, lyrical confrontation. INSIDE OUT is ALi’s 4th studio album, presented after the longest wait between releases that ALi has ever undergone, and it shows that the songs on the album are well-thought out. A personal album that was conceived during a period of growth and change for ALi, INSIDE OUT delivers on the musical fronts just as much as on the lyrical ones.

The music on the album is uniformly dark, with frequent hints of whimsical synths that inject a lot of color and character into the consistently monochromatic mixes. There is no denying that ALi’s musical style favors mood over expression, opting to lay down atmospheric synths and bold brush strokes than utilizing instrumentation to create colorful sonic landscapes. That is not to say that the music is bland, in fact quite the opposite as while the songs and mixes tend to be monochromatic, this ends up giving the album a coherent feel and a certain maturity as it showcases ALi as an artist with a distinct and defined approach, and indeed, as an emo-centered album, INSIDE OUT is more than colorful enough.

From the warpled and charismatic, Weeknd-inspired introduction ‘GROWTH SPURT’, through the surprising punky nature of ‘GOING NOWHERE’, the earth-shattering bass rumble on ‘YOU’, the bold dance rhythms on ‘DANCING WITH YOU’, and all the way to the gentle strums on ‘THINGS I NEVER SAID’, a stunning and soft emo ballad, ALi continues to prove with each song that his musical creativity is essentially flowing. Some moments that stood out throughout the album include the bountifully dark ‘WOULD LAST’. with its mostly drumless flow and world-eating synth bass, it is a moment of lyrical and musical introspection that’s unlike anything else on the album. The relatively upbeat, Caribbean vibes on ‘LIKE THAT’ is another piece that stands out with its thin and catchy guitar licks that go perfectly alongside the characterful, syncopated rhythm, and ALi’s caramel smooth vocal deliveries.

Now is a good time to mention ALi’s production skills, which are basically the album’s most defining hallmark. With solid songs in place, meaningful lyrics, and a voice that beautifully does the job, ALi’s consistent and balanced mixes are the thing that elevates the listening experience to such a highly rewarding level. An artist fully attuned to the sound that he’s going for, the lush and rich mixes ALi creates continue to deliver solid backdrops for his introspective lyrics and unique, minimal musical ideas.

INSIDE OUT is an all around nice listen. Bridging the gap between Drake and The Weeknd, ALi’s rich musical background and varied set of skills are on full swing on the album’s songs. Jumping from one style to another, ALi’s voice is perfectly flexible and his performances are consistently approachable and gently flamboyant, and with mixes that beautifully complement the individual musical ideas, we are left with a tight and enjoyable album that is well worth the wait.

Our surroundings started morphing into a dance floor as soon as we hit play on the latest electronic track “AMO” by Ary:Eh, who blends the musical flavours of Paris and New York City, with an inspiration by the underground scene in Brooklyn.

Rockers (Challenge Remix) by ZOOLOOK

0

ZOOLOOK’s “Rockers (Challenge Remix)” is a vibrant reinterpretation of his earlier hit “Rockers,” cut into a high-energy, 1-minute and 17-second piece meant especially to encourage social media presence. This shortened form preserves the core of the original while accentuating the components that would suit innovative dance routines exactly.

Simplified to be a fast-paced exciting structure, the remix is noticeably shorter than the original tune. The song, although it has a short duration, is painstakingly arranged with a distinct beginning, build-up, peak, and conclusion so that dancers may easily create their routines. This simplicity does not lessen the effect of the piece; rather, it sharpens the intensity and concentration of the music, therefore enhancing its appeal for orchestrated presentations.

Stylistically, ZOOLOOK finds influence in techno, dub, reggae, funk, and world music among other genres. Combining these forms produces a distinctive soundscape that seems both modern and anchored in musical traditions. One might compare musicians like Thievery Corporation, noted for their genre-blending, and Lee “Scratch” Perry, a forerunner in dub music. ZOOLOOK’s ability to combine these inspirations highlights his dedication to stretching genre limits and his musical production knowledge.

Rich and layered, “Rockers (Challenge Remix)” has electronic rhythms, dub-inspired basslines, and funky guitar riffs among other instruments. Every component has its place in the mix and the output is polished and exact. Driven forward by the bass and drums, the music has an enticing and contagious beat. Synths and electronic effects give music a current vibe texture and depth.

The way ZOOLOOK blends these components guarantees that the remix stays coherent and powerful despite its brief running period, therefore reflecting his production techniques. Perfect for dance-oriented material, the sound is bright and snappy with a distinct emphasis on rhythm and movement.

Although there are few powerful voice sections in the remix, they more often function as a supplementary rhythmic element than a narrative one. This method fits quite well with the goal of the song—a dance track—where the focus is on the rhythm and grooves instead of lyrical narrative. The mesmerizing nature of the tune is enhanced by the smooth integration of the voices into the general mix.

Under a general heading of chillout, electronic, alternative pop, dub, funk, reggae, and world music, “Rockers (Challenge Remix)” may fall. Along with increasing the appeal of the tune, this genre-blending method captures ZOOLOOK’s diverse artistic sensibility. The remix’s genre-defying character makes it appealing to a broad audience.

Lyrically, the song is light, concentrating more on evoking a feeling than on delivering a clear message. Within the framework of the remix, this understated style lets the rhythm and music front stage. As the advertising materials emphasize, the concept behind the remix is to inspire listeners to dance through the music, therefore enabling a very personal and free interpretation of the song’s content.

All things considered; “Rockers (Challenge Remix)” is evidence of ZOOLOOK’s ability to keep the fundamental aspects defining his style while adjusting his music for many forms. The remix is a good attempt at producing a song that is both artistically pleasing and exactly fit for the social media era. It asks listeners to participate actively in the music by dancing in addition to merely listening.

Fans of ZOOLOOK’s past as well as new listeners seeking fresh, energising music to fuel their creativity will probably find resonance in this remix. Among ZOOLOOK’s tracks, this one is unique because of its contagious beat, creative production, and genre-spanning sound. Whether appreciated on a personal playlist or as the background for a popular dance video, “Rockers (Challenge Remix)” is a song that will stay with you.

EP: Seasons by Jordana Delgado

0

The EP Seasons by Jordana Delgado offers a lovely, meditative trip throughout the emotional and visual terrain of the year. This EP is an investigation of time, memory, and environment via piano music, not just a set of songs. Delgado’s creations are inspired by the natural environment as well as the great nostalgia certain songs arouse, thereby producing a collection that seems ageless and rather intimate.

1. Autumn Leaves: The EP starts with a cover that captures the mood of the whole bodywork. Originally published as a single in October 2023, this song captures the gentle yet sad essence of autumn. Delgado’s calm and regretful reading of this classic captures the core of the seasonal change. Her use of soft dynamics and phrasing produces a sensation of leaves gently dropping to the ground, therefore portraying the beauty as well as the eventual autumn decline.

2. Somewhere in My Memory: This track, made famous by John Williams in Home Alone, represents the Christmas season. Released as a single in November 2023, Delgado’s rendition exudes warmth and nostalgia. Her performance of the piano preserves the cinematic beauty of the original while adding a degree of intimacy only solo piano can provide. Perfectly expressing the spirit of Christmas, this song feels like a warm hug on a frigid winter night.

3. The Cradle: Released in February 2024, The Cradle represents winter. Delgado’s exquisite piano here reflects the tranquility and introspection of winter utilizing silence. The tune offers solace among the cold like a lullaby. Like the winter itself, this song asks the listener to stop and consider.

4. Only the original EP composition, the Dancing Pink Flowers is the focal point of the compilation. Published in May 2024, this song captures spring and highlights Delgado’s compositional ability. Light and lively, the tune captures the blooming of flowers and the springtime rejuvenation. Like the erratic temperature of the season, the work moves over many melodic concepts.

5. Comptine D’un Autre Été: The EP ends with this version of Yann Tiersen’s classic summer song. Delgado’s delicate reading of Tiersen reflects her respect for him, especially for his work on the Amélie soundtrack. Her expressive and exact playing captures the bittersweet summer—full of happiness and melancholy.
Deeply ingrained in classical and cinematic traditions, Delgado’s approach borrows from composers like Yann Tiersen, whose work on Amélie greatly influenced her musical direction. Delgado’s playing clearly shows Tiersen’s understated but emotionally powerful technique. She does, however, also apply her voice to every work, thereby defining these covers and compositions as especially hers.

The recordings have a personal touch from her home studio’s modest upright piano instead of a grand piano. This decision lets the listener believe they are seated next to Delgado, undergoing a private performance. Akashic Records’ handling of recording, mixing, and mastering guarantees that every subtlety of Delgado’s performance is caught, further enhancing this closeness.

“Seasons” belongs within the genres of classical, movie, and easy listening. The music is soothing and ideal for studying, meditation, or just lounging around. Delgado’s choices of production wonderfully complement these genres. Every note in the crisp, clear tone resonates with warmth and clarity. The simplicity of the compositions lets the emotional depth of every work show through free from interference.

Though it’s not new, the concept of presenting every season with a certain piece of music is successful by Delgado. Every song captures the emotional terrain connected with its season in addition to reflecting it. Delgado’s music transports the listener through the cycles of nature and time, from the contemplative silence of winter to the joyous regeneration of spring.

The artwork of the EP captures the organic and nostalgic themes of the song. Delgado’s meticulous musical technique implies that the visual components of Seasons would also be as carefully created. The design is a visual depiction of the emotional depth of the music and its connection to the four seasons, therefore complementing the themes of the EP precisely.

The excellent EP Jordana Delgado demonstrates her aptitude as a writer and pianist. This compilation asks listeners to consider time passing, the wonders of the earth, and the memories music may arouse. Delgado has produced a work that is both ageless and very personal with her careful interpretations and intimate recording approach. Seasons is an EP that will appeal to you on many levels whether your taste in music is for classical, movie, or just lovely piano tunes.

If I Could by CHRISTINE TARQUINIO

0

Started with a singer strumming some chords and humming a couple of melodies with her beloved guitar, and ended up being a success release that fosters a truthful and genuine sound that explores deep layers of every bond and relationship we go through. The Melbourne based singer-songwriter, Christine Tarquino, releases her latest single, IF I COULD, as a statement to her musical authenticity and unique sound. The artist brings a mix of tender melodies and heartfelt lyrics to sweep off all pop fans all over the world.

It doesn’t matter if you live in Europe, the US, or even in the Middle East as you could easily relate to this uplifting and inspirational release. The artist explores this idea of bonds and connections in relationships. How important it is for us to feel and know that those who are closest to our souls and hearts, get us and understand our emotional turmoil throughout our relationships without necessarily us constantly speaking up and voicing out our emotions. “We sometimes get caught up in our day to day lives and don’t always let our nearest and dearest know exactly how we are feeling,” explains Tarquino. “When it matters the most, there is this understanding that you will do what is necessary.” The artist highlights the beauty of close relationships and the safe haven which they often provide us with, even in our weakest and most vulnerable moments.

The serenading piano intro followed by the upbeat music produced by Daniel Nieberg add an exceptional layer to this track. The producer is known for his ability to blend classical vibes with modern sounds and feel, and you can absolutely feel that right from the piano intro. The artist was also able to explore and experiment with vocal layering that resulted in some beautiful background vocals that added exceptional layering to the track.

Since her first release in 2014, the artist has been continuously releasing remarkably sincere and heartfelt tunes; and it is no surprise to know that some of her influences are artists like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Lana Del Ray, all of whom have transformed their life experiences into beautiful art that is able to speak and touch millions of individuals all over the world.

Lights by Occupation Baby

0

With a dreamy vulnerable vibe and incredibly catchy chorus, Occupation Baby slays the synthwave-rock music scene with his latest single release, Lights. The Cambridgeshire-based artist released his first single in 2021, and it was more of an indie-rock kind of vibe; but this summer, Occupation Baby brings us an interesting mix of summery, laid back, and chill kind of music but with a relatively profound and deep theme: acceptance.

The lyrics are incredibly relatable; we can even say it’s almost therapeutic. Right from the first few words, “it’s too cold to sleep at night, and to finally breaking down.” I mean, please find me someone who is living on this planet and never felt the same exact way before. You simply can’t! He then continues with the opening section, “I’m not the kind of guy who asks anyone for help.” Damn, that’s loaded! You’ve probably started thinking about all of the trauma and psychological implications that this might have stemmed from, but this tells you exactly how and why the lyrics of this song are just too good. They are just too real and honest. Stripped from all egoistical senses, narcissistic delusions, and any alludes to toxic masculinity. “And if I’m done here, well at least I tried.” Just another brilliant line crafted with a great melody.

Yes, the lyrics are quite deep and emotional, but don’t fool yourself thinking that this is by any means a sad song or a self-loathing kind of track. Nope! Occupation Baby has skillfully crafted an anthem of acceptance perfectly captivated by the dreamy synthwave keys chords used and a guitar line that gives a unique summery vibe to the track. It’s just a combo that is too effective and complements the artist’s vocal performance to deliver an optimistic and uplifting vibe. It just becomes too serene and truly a wholesome inward look into one’s truth.

Lights is definitely a go to for anyone who is looking for a cinematic synthwave kind of song, or for anybody who is looking for a self-soothing song to help them get through life, really. I’d say Occupation Baby has succeeded at bringing us a song that is a pat on the back. Just reminding us to accept all life craziness, enjoy the ride, and to just be kind to ourselves.

La Noche Que Nunca Llega by Patricio Anabalon

0

Tired of listening to the same old English hits that you listen to every day? Give your ears a break from the mundane and experience a sonic journey of foreign flavours by Chile-based musician, Patricio Anabalón.

His new release, “La Noche Que Nunca Llega” (The Night That Never Comes) features guitar strums, a sweet sultry vocal narration by both himself and Greek musician Giorgis Christodoulou, along with high notes of Chinese Bamboo Flute melodies that pierce through your mind.

The deep and meaningful lyrics talk about a man with a dream, who awaits a night of reconciliation with a lover that never comes. Along that note, it is easy to relate to such a mental state, with heartbreak looming around the corners of every longing lover.

Anabalón has performed around the globe, from Chile, to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, Sweden, France, Germany, and the list goes on and on. Apart from music, he also released two books of poetry, and shared the stage with the likes of Silvio Rodríguez, Vicente Feliú, Augusto Blanca, and Cecilia Todd.

A few of his notable awards include the first prize for poetry, along with two UNESCO awards for contribution to development in Europe. With such accolades under his belt, the new release is a must-listen if you’re looking for something new.

Man Mowing the Lawn Across the Way from Me by Ian Mathias-Baker

0

Accompanied by the sweet dabs of piano and vocal narration that sounds like it’s from outer space, “Man Mowing the Lawn Across the Way from Me” by Ian Mathias-Baker is a sonic journey that plays on the strings of your heart. Hence, the fourth track from his album “Specific Gravity” relaxes you from the core and takes you on a ride to a dystopian realm..

“I am not the first to invoke imagery of enslavement when discussing consumerism, free-market economics, or addiction to technology,” writes Mathias-Baker in an essay that was released in time with “Specific Gravity”. “The human race is facing an existential crisis. The very thing which many see as the greatest achievement of human civilisation – our uber-technological, resource-rich society – is wreaking havoc on the natural world which sustains us as living creatures.”

Mathias-Baker is known for his fearless ideology behind the music, along with a masterful dabbling between genres of electronic to emo-pop, and remixes of his favorite Hip-Hop tracks.  “Man Mowing the Lawn Across the Way from Me” however, ends way too soon without truly changing the timeline, which leaves you hungry to explore the rest of the album.

His masterpiece album “Specific Gravity” is heavily influenced by classical music, with a skillful approach to modernism. A melancholic mood indeed!
