Bhoopali Beginnings by SAHANA NARESH

1

…they just don’t make them like that anymore…

That’s the first thing I thought to myself when experiencing Sahana Naresh’s single “Bhoopali Beginnings”…

The Chennai, India-based artist gives us a very melodic and relaxing musical trip in both English and Hindi…

Sahana is absolutely authentic with the music she’s creating…and it translates perfectly on an emotional level.

The English parts of the song are beautiful while the Hindi parts are absolutely mesmerizing…the Indian musical notes and scales add so much to the whole experience…and a big part of the beauty comes from Sahana’s angelic and soothing voice and amazingly mind-blowing talent.

While the music takes a unique direction that can be described as melodic, with a hint of pop, lo-fi, and Carnatic music fused with 70s rock influences…it fuses perfectly well with the Indian musical system too…it’s mind-blowing.

Sahana actually wrote “Bhoopali Beginnings” to remind herself that life’s most profound transformations often begin with a single note, a single step, and the courage to be unapologetically you…if that’s not a life-changing message from the artist, I don’t know what it is.

What the world needs is more music from Sahana…I’ll say that.

Sahana’s message to anyone listening right now is, to explore yourself, know yourself, and don’t be afraid to be your true self.

Working with the brilliant producer Keshav from Papercul Records, Cologne, he brings his unique approach to fresh sounds, rhythms, and harmonies masterfully crafted for Sahana’s artistic presence.

Wishing all the best to Sahana, she’s the voice we need to have etched in our minds and her talents need to reach everyone in the world.

We can’t wait to see what Sahana comes up with next…but we’re sure it’s going to be awesome.

Cheers!

At 2 minutes and 40 seconds, Josh manages to capture our ears and hearts with his single “Eyes of Jezebel”.

With the driving drum beat, the guitar melodies, and the charismatic vocal presence…we’re instantly hooked.

The vocal melodies here instantly catch onto our brains…and it’s not going away any time soon… some musical elements in the mix also stand out, like the backing vocal ‘oohs’ put strategically to fill the air, enriching the musical experience.

EP: On A Personal Level by ZIAD HISHAM

0

I love concept albums… They take the music, elevate the experience, and make it transcend being a collection of songs, evolving it into a journey…and we’re invited to get on board a new, unique, fresh, and absolutely mesmerizing one with Ziad Hisham’s latest EP “On A Personal Level”.

First things first, how about we get to know Ziad on a more…personal level, shall we say?

Egyptian musician and producer, based in London, Ziad wanted to do something different with his music…so he collaborated with artists from around the world to create a boundary-breaking, multicultural experience…he worked with artists from Cairo, Paris, and London, collaborating with Mohamed Abo Zekry, Doaa El Sebaii, Sarah Moullablad, Wiwii, and Luka.

Ziad started his musical journey in Egypt playing with some of the most iconic names, including the Shady el Qasseer group and the grammy award winner Fathy Salama.

Deciding to move to London to pursue a degree in music production and sound engineering…and the rest is history.

…we’ll see that his debut EP contains 6 songs…and there are 5 artists that we just mentioned, let me tell you why…you’ll get it right away…the first track is an instrumental one and is titled “Flying Solo”…we had an ‘aha!’ moment when we figured that out. Simply beautiful.

Speaking of “Flying Solo”…there is a nod to an iconic and nostalgic Egyptian song…if you’re Egyptian you might get it…did you guess it? It’s “Rahaal” by Hamid El Shaery, an absolutely excellent easter egg.

…that’s why I’m telling you, this EP transcends just being a musical product and takes flight being a journey.

“Flying Solo” also has some iconic microtonal guitar licks and melodies…it takes a more electro direction but the electric guitar leads the way, figuratively and literally.

Moving on to the second track, is a song titled “Warag El Fol” and it’s a collaboration with Doaa El Sebaii…the song’s name is translated in English to “Jasmine Leaves”, or literally “Arabian Jasmine Leaves”…it’s a fusion between the Egyptian folkloric and the electronic…brilliant.

Moving on to the third track “Mesh Hekaya Awy”, featuring artist Mohamed Abo Zekry…and goes of course for Ziad’s iconic fusion of electro and oriental…with the future electro and qanun making a very unique hybrid beast.

By the way, the qanun is a stringed instrument that is commonly used in oriental, egyptian, and Middle Eastern music…

Ziad then moves to the title track “On A Personal Level” a very unique mix of jazz/oriental violin Taksim and microtonal guitar melodies…this track is instrumental, featuring Wiwii.

Moving to “Eza”, it takes a melancholic mood, featuring Luka Salam…with iconic Middle Eastern percussive beats and Luka’s charismatic vocals…this is an absolute musical treat for the ears, heart, and soul…the piano and guitar intro is an absolute blast.

…unfortunately, like all good things it has to come to an end…we reach the last track in the EP, “El Ghayeb”, featuring Sara Moullablad…the song starts with a musical statement with its beat and melodic microtonal guitar licks…the electro is strong with this one…synth pads makes a more substantial presence here…and I want to add that this song has some amazing khaleeji polyrhythmic beats…with the electronic kick hitting every beat, moving like a locomotive, driving the beat and the energy of the song.

Ziad has achieved something unprecedented for the last 40 years, at least…

…he created a complete musical experience, focused, catchy, new, and fresh while breaking boundaries, getting people together…and simply making great music.

Being an Egyptian myself, I feel proud to know that such an influential and boundary-breaking artist like Ziad is also Egyptian and that his music reaches the whole world… Wishing Ziad all the best in life, he deserves it surely, and a lot more.

We can’t wait to see what Ziad comes up with next for the world to experience.

Cheers!

London-based artist Allegra’s single “Round & Round” is one for the dance floor…get ready for energy levels that will keep pumping your blood day and night and day and night…

With more than 1.4 million views on YouTube, you simply can’t go wrong with “Round & Round”.

The strong synth stabs, pads, and pumping bass are absolutely iconic here…

…basically from the starting seconds of the song and you’re sucked into a very energy-beat-driven world…but don’t think that you won’t be treated to some catchy melodies here…the chorus melody is an absolute earworm…should’ve put a disclaimer before…anyway…

“Round & Round” is heavy on pop and electro…and hey, did I mention that this song comes via way of musical cooperation with one of the biggest names in the whole world of electronic music? No? Well, it’s Tiësto, who has created an absolute super hot remix of Allegra’s song.

This song is all about releasing energy, dancing, and catchy tunes…

With Allegra and Tiësto’s souls being fused together, the result is mesmerizing…it’s one for the record books.

One of the most interesting parts of the whole experience is the fact that the song is only 2 minutes and 25 seconds…which is probably why I’m not leaving that repeat button alone…the amount of focused musical energy here is mind-blowing…

…and another very exciting fact is the presence of a AAA music video for the song…everything looks absolutely stunning, from the wardrobe…to the set, lights, colors, choreography…phenomenal.

This is a must-have experience for any dance/electro music lover, all fans of Allegra and Tiësto…do not miss this.

Wishing all the best to the amazing Allegra, we can’t wait to see what she will surprise us with.

Cheers!

The upcoming album is titled “Pinkeen” and it tells the story of how a woman started to change how she approaches relationships after destroying all the relationships she’s been part of…she knows that she needs to do therapy to break the habits that keep tearing her life apart.

Joe is releasing the album in both French and English…which is a very commendable move and will surely widen the range of his audiences…brilliant.

Joe’s EP “WTPA”, will be part of the upcoming album “Pinkeen”…and actually has the title song for the upcoming album.

The 3 songs that make up the “WTPA” are…

“WTPA”…

“Pinkeen”…

…and “Hypocrisy”…

Joe goes for the R&B mood and feel but also mixes in electronica and some awesome synth-based elements.

The EP starts with “WTPA”…R&B mixed with orchestral string sections and hard-hitting beats…and Joe’s iconic vocal performance in French…soaring, evolving, and full of life, this is what Joe’s voice feels like.

There is also a featured singer on this song, “Isabel Izzy”…which adds so much to the whole experience…her vocals are absolutely out of this world.

…it would be a huge thing if Joe could incorporate more features in his upcoming album like this!

…moving onto the second song “Pinkeen”…this is still R&B but with an iconic synth bass that mixes things up a bit and pours some nostalgia magic in the song…this song has a lot of 90s magic within its 1 minute and 18 seconds…

…going to the third and last song on this EP, it’s “Hypocrisy”…and we take a downbeat turn into a more emotional world with this…Joe literally and figuratively elevates his voice maintains his vocal performance in a higher vocal register and surprises anyone who will be listening to the song for the first time!

“Hypocrisy” has a super catchy melody and also a very charismatic production approach…feels minimal, yet rich and full. There are also some magical group vocals that give so much life to the whole experience.

Album: Antidote [Deluxe Edition] by BLAK EMOJI

0

Black Emoji’s latest hard-hitting, mind-opening, and soul-ensnaring album is out, it’s the deluxe edition of “Antidote”…masterfully restored and remastered by indie music luminary and ECR founder Blake Morgan…ECR Music Group released it on the 6th of October…and it sounds and feels absolutely mesmerizing to experience.

Black Emoji is the modus operandi name and brainchild of New York City producer, recording artist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Kelsey Warren.

…with 10 tracks and one bonus track, we’re in for a treat that will keep pumping some mind-blowing music into our hearts for around 33 minutes at a sitting…

The electronica in “Antidote” seems very focused, super tight, and retro-sounding but cutting-edge futuristic feeling…

The Tracks are very diversified…between the experimental and the easily digestible…all of which have a very unique layer of avant-garde quality to their musicality.

With a track like “Sick” that feels very melodic yet very experimental…Black Emoji keeps surprising us with unique ways to tell musical stories.

…and with a track like “The Sauce”, it’s like exploring a more energetic side and a more upbeat direction to the music…it’s a hopeful musical experience with a dark twist around the midway mark.

“Apocalypse” takes us into the groovy territory, old school grooviness with very unique and tight synth sounds that don’t seem to repeat themselves anywhere in the album…each track has its own unique and easily identified musical fingerprint…like that part with the dragging drums that just makes you move in an instant.

Black Emoji has something that many, many…I’d even go as far as saying that the majority of the artist doesn’t have…that is…when you listen to his music, you’re instantly aware of his musical prowess, melodic charisma, and percussive storytelling…you just know him, this is being an icon.

Make sure to check out Black Emoji’s “Antidote – Deluxe Edition”…you won’t put it down.

Wishing all the best to Black Emoji and ECR Music Group…we can’t wait to see what you cook up next in the near future.

Cheers!

Yellow by WORDS AND SOUND

0

It is consensus that songs in the making should have multiple versions with multiple sounds that the artists can dig into at any time to produce different mixes, or to add or remove or edit things, and also as a safety net if a song gets stolen or somehow lost. Trevor Keith, the brains behind Words and Sound, shares with us a story of how his cat was responsible for him losing all files for this single, and that having coincidentally saved a version before that incident is his only proof that this song ever existed. We’re all lucky we can still have this version, whatever its state of completion is.

Winston-Salem-based artist Trevor Keith is the only member of this act. Words and Sound is a mainly electronica act whose latest single ‘Yellow’ is quite gentle, yet emotionally stirring, and when you learn that the piece was written to celebrate Keith’s late grandma’s life and spirit, it becomes a little more thunderous than stirring. The soft, puffy, and melancholic chords carry enough sadness in them to be poignant without much singing on top, and maybe that is why Keith opted to go with a small bit of spoken prose instead of going densely lyrical.

With sparse patches where a distant beat becomes audible, this rather minimalist piece is restrained and very collected, and Keith’s choices of synth pads, metallic and sparkling, convey a sense of emptiness that is quite effective. A beautiful effort and a true meant-to-be unicorn. In a sense I’m glad Keith’s cat deleted the project from his computer, because that way we have something truly unique and unchangeable. ‘Yellow’ is carved upon a face of stone. A beautiful memoir.

Talkin’ to You by CARSON FERRIS

0

Carson Ferris’s star seems to be continuing to shine with the same brightness as he’s been going at his budding career as a recording artist for about a year now, with no indications of slowing down anytime soon.

Based in Provo, Utah, 13-year-old Carson Ferris is a singer and a songwriter whose radio-friendly power pop is more often than not entertaining, punchy, fun, and quite witty. His latest single, ‘Talkin’ to You’, is just that. The powerful, melancholy-laced, pop-rock number is about fear of rejection, and Ferris’s idea of celebrating Halloween with one of the biggest fears of them all is indeed very neat. The single, produced by Mykyl and Adam Turley, also showcases how much has Ferris’ come since his very first releases, this time sounding more confident and present, even if he sings of feeling the exact opposite.

The song’s structure shapeshifts enough to keep things interesting, going through various beats that convey various feels, all mixed exactly right, making ‘Talkin’ to You’ sound crisp and fresh, and with the young artist’s vocal delivery as stirring and as compelling as ever. Carson Ferris continues to show us that there is a massive future ahead of him, and with just a couple of right decisions and some solid management, we can be witnessing the making of a new global pop darling.

Free N Easy Riddim by PAUL LUPA

0

Full of heart, appreciation, and expertise, German artist Paul Lupa’s classic-inspired reggae is a ton of fun and is dripping with soul.

Based in the German city of Hamburg, Paul Lupa is a relatively fresh face who is here to bring us some carefully calculated, but free-flowing and improvisational reggae. His latest instrumental composition, aptly titled ‘Free N Easy Riddim’ happens to be just that. An easy and free-spirited composition that sticks closely to reggae’s timeless, and much-beloved formula. For a genre of music that has survived unaffected for more than half a century, there’s a lot to be loved about reggae’s perceived simplicity and straightforward nature, and more so about the rhythmic and melodic level of nuance that must be achieved for a piece of reggae to truly hit its desired target.

Paul Lupa’s seductive wah wah’d overdriven guitar, and its improv-based phrases are catchy, yet soothing, and the genre’s infamous syncopated rhythm is in full swing with the warm, deep bassline, colorful piano chords, and the signature off-kilter percussion. ‘Free N Easy Riddim’ is a piece that’s fully fledged with a verse section, a chorus, a bridge, and a tight, tasteful mix to help put all elements together.

A delightful piece that effortlessly showcases just how reggae could make it to 2023 with minimal changes to its core ideas and sounds. For sure, music this tasty, soulful, and colorful can hardly be faulted, and Paul Lupa is here to do it all justice.
