Better Than Here by MILES EAST

0

Exquisitely tasteful NYC-based singer/songwriter Miles East has just released his lead single “Better Than Here”, a flavorsome soft rock journey that feels and sounds absolutely mesmerizing…

“Better Than Here” is part of Miles’ upcoming album, which will be his second one, titled “Between Lightning and Thunder” on ECR Music Group which has an exclusive partnership with Sony Music Publishing.

With his upcoming album, Miles embarks on a voyage through the rough turbulence of a relationship that is going up in flames…so get ready for some raw emotional grit with the stories within the walls of “Between Lightning and Thunder”.

All songs in the album were recorded and produced by the acclaimed artist/producer and ECR Records founder, Blake Morgan.

…which includes the lead single “Better Than Here,” let’s delve deep into the musical world that is painted ever so artistically and masterfully with the music, lyrics, and melodies of this song…

The first thing that hits you is the intro drum fill and the super alive guitars filling the air…when the song starts playing, it feels like you’ve opened a window that lets in a gust of super fresh, clean, and a bit chilly air…Miles puts on a vocal and melodic performance that is one for the history books.

Miles’ vocal texture is already on a very high emotional and soothing level…add to this the highly catchy melodies…and you’re in for a sonic and emotional treat that will stick with you for quite some time.

…and let’s not forget the awesome slide guitar solo midway, with a perfectly constructed melody and perfect timing, this is easily one of my favorite guitar solos this year…

The artists embarking on this musical studio journey were…

Miles East (vocals, acoustic guitars, drums)

Morgan (bass, electric guitars, keyboards, backing vocals)

Justin Goldner (electric guitars, baritone)

All elements in the song come together very artistically and gel perfectly to create a unique and fresh musical and lyrical experience that goes straight from the artist’s soul to the audience’s.

Wishing all the best to Miles East…and we can’t wait to experience the full emotional might of his upcoming second album “Between Lightning and Thunder”.

Cheers!

Quasar Viola by Massimo De Simone

0

You do not need to know a word of Italian to be able to grasp the hypnotic quality of this composition from Massimo De Simone. A shapeshifting, compelling journey through a litany of musical realms that never for one moment ceases to be perfectly arresting.

An artist based in the Italian capital Rome, Massimo De Simone’s ‘Quasar Viola’ is as engaging and as grandiose as the city it hails from. A total genre breaker, ‘Quasar Viole’ is an operatic piece of chamber and art pop that changes colors with extreme ease and fluidity heightening a sense of indelible drama on the whole composition. Indeed, defined by an introductory vocal melodic motif that can not be maintained within the boundary of a familiar sounding scale, the piece has alternation and movement written into its very heart, like a scene that progresses in a European high fantasy aria from the Middle Ages, brought to crisp modernity.

The wonderful production does an amazing job handling the timpani bangs, the graceful grand piano, the heaving string arrangement, and the handful of different vocal characters in a state of call and response. Every element is exactly where it belongs in the piece’s rich and colorful mix. ‘Quasar Viola’ has a whimsical, dreamlike charm that ought to belong in a far more nuanced musical narrating an epic story. But we are nonetheless glad to have it in its current format, as an underappreciated gem of a piece that only needs a chance to be heard.

Piece Of My Mind by Per Ploug

0

Per Ploug’s latest offering is a beautiful cry for some reason in a world that is severely lacking. Gentle, warm, soft, but incredibly loud and soft.

‘Piece Of My Mind’ is the title of Per Ploug’s latest single. Ploug is a singer and a songwriter who is based in the town of Dalkey in Ireland, and he has a piercing voice that is not scared of asking bold, blunt questions, and he does so in his latest piece. For his sixth single Ploug has teamed up with his musician and producer friend Eoin Mulcahy. A seemingly simplistic question aimed at humanity, Per presents challenging questions to the human race and their devious impact on the world, nature, and themselves, to a stunningly profound musical backdrop.

The vivid and lush mix is home to some puffy, soothing beats, featuring a brushed snare and a driving kick pattern, going well against the consistent guitar arpeggio that defines the song’s core chord structure. Moreover, Ploug and Mulcahy go orchestral as the song progresses, introducing a pizzicato part that further solidifies ‘Piece Of My Mind’ as a song with a distinctive character as the wailing violins fade gradually in, continuing to grow until a whole string ensemble carries the song’s graceful crescendo forward, all the while the song’s simple, melancholic composition score one success after another at being emotionally moving.

From the song’s ever so gentle beat and ever in motion pace, it is safe to say that Per Ploug is continuing to prove himself as a capable artist of creating stirring sceneries with his arrangements. Reminding me of another hidden British gem, King Creosote, Per Ploug easily impressed us with ‘Piece Of My Mind

Album: Black Desire by JOE LINGTON

0

Joe Lington’s latest album is a neat mix of R&B, afrobeat, and dance cuts that all, without exception, drip with one or another flavor. Going from Childish Gambino to Santana, to Marvin Gaye then to Bruno, remaining Joe Lington throughout, Black Desire is an invaluable collection of songs crafted with extreme love and care.

An exceptionally easy and fluid record, Black Desire, from Cork, Ireland-based Joe Lington, a singer who sings in English, French, and Cameroonian. His sound can be distinguished by his minimal approach to instrumentation and his favoring of layering vocals, often resulting in choir-like ambiances with punchy trap beats. A mix that sounds fresh and is well executed by Lington and his team.

A case in point would be the album’s title cut. ‘Black Desire’ is an almost-acapella piece with Lington delivering some spoken wisdom with a distinctive accent as his vocals are layered in the background, next to Lington’s sensual ad-libs and a jittering, puffy beat. ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ sees Lington firing his falsetto in full swing, along with some incredibly immersive flows of French rap. I don’t understand the language, but the energy is quite infectious with the slow but sure beat and the smooth, reassuring English vocals. ‘Mamacita’ follows with some succulent Latin dance. Rich and lush, yet minimal and simple in its core, ‘Mamacita’ is graceful, yet sizzling. ‘Ce Soir’ is another endlessly smooth cut of soulful R&B. The sparkling, swooning guitar lines, the reaffirming beat, and the soulful vocals all combine to create a piece of momentous soul. Following it is the sleazy riff of ‘I Can’t See You’, backed with charming group chants and Lington’s distinctive delivery of crooning falsetto lines, creating another infectious atmosphere.

After a closer of a stunning piece of minimalist soul, ‘Because of You’ and its sparkling Rhodes, and the slightly rowdy ‘On Dance’, the album finishes after lasting a little less than half an hour. Too short if you ask me. During that time Lington proved time and time again that he’s fully capable of weaving an immaculate atmosphere with the fewest of elements. A relaxed songwriter who is definitely not phased by leaving a space in his songs to breathe. The results are outstanding, colorful, and very unique.

Alone by LEW MCKENZIE

0

New York-based artist Lew Mckenzie hits the world with his latest single “Alone”…a superbly melodic and electrifying R&B experience that is not to be missed by any music lover, not just R&B.

Lew is an established multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and producer…he already does it all… which is why his songs have a vision, he’s the writer, he’s the director and he’s the actor…the vision is all in his mind…and this is surely one of the ultimate skills to have in this world of music.

His latest single “Alone” further takes this concept of a visionary and builds on it…he wrote “Alone” on the concept of living between two worlds…one that is external, made out of our surroundings…and an internal one, fueled by our minds and our imagination…the song then looks to explain that distinguishing between these two worlds is not as clear, straightforward or easy as we would have thought…I can definitely relate to that.

People can sometimes be focused on their life challenges to an extent that they either get consumed or run away from them, either way, this is not the reality of life…we always have a chance to think, figure it out, and make a decision.

So, when we’re alone, this could be an even more difficult task…

Lew says in the song…

Inside my nightmares

In the midst of a cloud

Ecstasy’s raining down

Not a thing I can feel

….it’s not easy being alone in the face of life, fighting alone.

On the musical side…” Alone” starts right away putting us in the midst of this dilemma, with a very musical hook played by the piano and a couple of synths…Lew kicks it in high gear with a stunning lead vocal line…followed by mesmerizing backing vocals…

“Alone” has a very high musicality, the scales, progression, and experimentation evident here is proof that Lew is winning on both a commercial level and on an experimental one too…he’s not shying away from treading uncharted musical water…and he makes it happen brilliantly.

Wishing Lew all the best in the world…we can’t wait to see what he has next for his fans and audiences…we’re sure it’s going to be amazing though.

Cheers!

Figure it out by NADIA

0

Belfast-based charismatic artist Nadia released her latest single “Figure It Out”, a very mellow, dancy pop melodic journey into the beats…let’s see how it goes…

Nadia is one of Northern Ireland’s exciting and shining talents…and now Nadia is releasing her single “Figure It Out” via the Atlanta-based label Sound Ballistics Music & Publishing…Nadia’s star keeps shining brighter every day.

With almost 500K listens on Spotify alone and more than 15K monthly listeners…Nadia is not just on the scale of Ireland or even Europe, Nadia is already reaching many international audiences…and I’m pretty sure that “Figure It Out” will even get her closer to new audiences.

“Figure It Out” has a little genre-bending approach going on…it’s pop for sure, but integrates some slowed-down dance-y beats that will still have a very ‘moving’ effect on the listeners…it moves the body for sure.

Musically, the song is all about catchy hooks and melodic vocal lines…

…and Nadia’s supreme vocals further solidify the catchiness of the song.

With that mesmerizing elevated and catchy chorus being sung by Nadia…it’s a homerun.

The energy that flows through the song is unrushed, steady, and super effective.

Nadia once again proves that she deserves every bit of attention with her latest single, she’s putting on a superb vocal performance and melodic music…who can go wrong with such talent?

In my opinion, Nadia is already on her way to the international stage…it’s just a matter of time…

Wishing Nadia all the best, she’s an awesome artist and her musicality is the future.

Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next for the world to experience.

Cheers!

Sweetest Things by NDGE

0

NDGE’s “Sweetest Things” is his third release this year, and it has his “ndgetopia” stamp all over it. Get ready to be immersed in some nostalgic grooves along with the uplifting beats and, of course, NDGE’s charismatic delivery.

I wrote about NDGE’s previous releases, and despite his distinct musicality that you won’t hear elsewhere, what I like the most about his songs is his sarcastic approach; you won’t hear what he wants to deliver in a straightforward way; instead, he wraps up with ironic lyricism and playful delivery. His latest song, “Sweetest Things,” follows the same direction, spreading humorous, light vibes.

“Sweetest Things” is an upbeat track that conveys how people sometimes say the rudest things. You didn’t expect that from the title, right? Well, you’ll get used to it. In the song, we witness NDGE’s ability to craft frisky writing, a nostalgic yet fresh soundscape, and a funky execution.

From the intro to the outro, all elements of the song try to send a message to people out there, which is “When you say the sweetest things, try to mean them.” The smooth singing, delightful beats, electrifying synth, and dense guitar riffs weave together a heavy, beautiful canvas.

Not just the infectious arrangement and the smooth vocal performance allure one to be part of NDGE’s unique realm, but also the colorful music video that has the characteristics of NDGE. Just like the track, it works on evoking euphoria, nostalgia, and caring-free sense.

Here’s to another vibrant, feel-good song with a different sonic experience yet the same artistic signature of NDGE.

Sweet Night by Elina

0

Mesmerizing vocals, dulcet melodies, emotional writing, and bonding with nature are waiting for you in Swedish singer-songwriter and Ivor Novello nominee Elina’s single “Sweet Night.”

“Sweet Night” sounds as gentle as a calm, breezy night with shimmering stars in the sky, and a liberating feel fills the air and finds its way to one’s heart. The sensational, talented artist, Elina, made sure that this soothing sense was conveyed through each element of the heartwarming song. Nevertheless, her soulful vocals take center stage here.

A song has many components, and all of them work together to deliver a certain message or feeling and connect with the listener. So they’re all equally important, but for me, if the vocals are good, then you got my attention. Elina’s vocals aren’t just good; they go beyond perfect. Once she made an entrance, I was like, “Oh yes, this is how a sweet night would sound like.” She can easily charm one with her silky, ethereal voice. “I will fill my lungs with a summer breeze,” she sings, while her voice is both the fresh breeze and warm ray one needs in every season.

The lyrics paint quite a picture of a beautiful summer night, where Elina drew inspiration from summer nights in Sweden. The filled-with-aesthetics lyricism and how Elina portrays them with her harmonic vocal line will make you feel as if you’re sitting there in that exacting setting she’s describing.

The tender guitar textures harmonize very well with Elina’s voice, creating an atmospheric, serene soundscape. I admired how she didn’t exaggerate with the instruments to retain the “sweet night” vibe. As simple as the melody is, it manages to reach the heart’s core and fill it with warmth and peace.

Enjoy feeling free with Elina’s enchanting “Sweet Night” below.

Life by Dax

0

Each one of us has our own definition of life, and the thing most of us can agree on is that it’s hard. Dax, on the other hand, has his own point of view on life, an optimistic, encouraging one. He shares his vision in his latest single, “Life,” while not denying the hardships but advising us to power through.

Dax is an exceptional artist with touching, high-quality musicality. With talent like his, he can make earworms and hits as much as he can, but he focuses on producing quality music that has a profound message, so it not only hooks the ears but moves the souls. His song “Life” is the kind of song that will be there for you when life gets hard and you feel like you’re just passing by the days trying to survive.

“I gotta remind that we not meant to survive

We’re meant to live on the moment and make the best of our lives”

This lyric strongly resonated with me. The entire realistic, well-expressing lyricism is haunting, but for some reason, I heard this one higher. Maybe because hardships come and go, but what is hardest is that throughout, we forget how to really live our lives.

“Life” is the friend you need next to you to remind you to “go today” and seize every day in life. The song urges fighting, yet everything about it is peaceful and graceful. This is a Dax quality! He has the ability to plant peace in his pieces. His soulful, passionate, and faithful vocals carry the positivity in each lyric, making the song personal, as if he’s singing it just for you.

The musical composition carries the same determining, uplifting, yet soothing vibes as the vocals and lyrics. With the fusion of the genres, Dax offers us an emotional listening experience where we get to focus on the message while at the same time enjoying what a good life sounds like through his arrangement.

Watch the song’s music video below and enjoy life through Dax’s perspective; hopefully, you’ll get inspired by his charming, natural flow and do as he says, “Don’t wait, don’t wait, go today.”
