Dripping with a wholesome warmth, Goldschatz’s second EP Twin Flame is a living, breathing folk experience that touches on the pop and country sides of folk while maintaining the duo’s distinctive duet talents in full display throughout the EP’s short but weighted runtime.

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Goldschatz is a folk and country duo made of Swiss guitarist and singer Timothy Jaromir and Canadian artist Rykka. With their lively and honest storytelling, the duo have been rewarded with success and recognition in the Swiss live music scene, and with time have managed to sneak their ways into international radio play as well. Listening to Twin Flame it becomes immediately unsurprising that the band has been receiving attention. The couple have a particular sound that stems from deep down within the American folk tradition. Playing music that is defined by Jaromir’s warm and grand acoustic guitar and the lush harmony between the two artists’ voices, the chemistry oozes from those two, and the results are outstanding songs.

‘Gemini’ in particular is an easy standout. A song that sums up the sound of the duo quite easily. The driving groove, warm and soulful chords and lyrics, and the charming oohs in the chorus that display exactly how much vocal chemistry the duo has between them, all add up to a heartwarming piece of music for the road that is easy to fall in love with. ‘Kindness of Strangers’ is another stunner that sees the two voices intertwine and interweave throughout the song. A perfect campfire song, the easily accessible song is the kind of song that will get the listeners gently bobbing their heads, contemplating the words, before winning them over and having them singing the title along with the duo as they gracefully deliver the song’s soaring crescendo.

Twin Flame EP is a simple musical endeavor that is easy to fall for. With all its charming simplicity and stark honesty, we come face to face with a duo that are here to celebrate music and life in a genuinely sweet way that we dearly miss. Goldschatz’s latest EP is the kind of folk music that will make you swear you had problems before you started listening.
