Shannon Tehya releases raw new single ‘Stay’

0

Backed by a mission that keeps her rooted in inspiration and hope, Shannon Tehya is an artist pursuing music for love, working herself towards a joyful dream. With her forthcoming album on the horizon, Shannon’s music continues to empower those who feel put into boxes, proving that it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you deserve support.

The artist’s latest single is ‘Stay’, a track which sees an enamoured Shannon deliver an enchanting vocal performance that evokes a palatable rawness and maturity. Taking a poignant balance of wistful contentment and crushing heartbreak, the track feels like it’s grappling with reality, unable to discern between a deep romantic desire and the truth that surrounds it. Steadily building around her lead vocal, the instrumentation almost acts as a second protagonist, with the lead guitar unable to speak to Shannon in a way she’ll understand, pouring out the same expressive melodies with the same emotional torrent. A story perfectly told through folk-pop songwriting, Shannon’s message of hope and positivity is enforced once again.

Shannon shares, ”My second single off of Tangled String, “Stay,” expresses my feelings of yearning and unrequited love. The song equally evokes feelings of heartache and hopefulness, and I hope listeners will allow the gooey instrumentation to melt over them. I encourage you to sit back and listen with your eyes closed to the intricate harmonies and dramatic build of the song.”

The Score by V of 40M

0

V of 40M possesses a truly unique sound that’s rhythmically nuanced, melodic, full of richly detailed and fragmented flows, always delivering rap that’s engaging, exciting, and in the case of ‘The Score’, exhilarating.

V of 40M are V, a rapper, and a group of collaborators called 40M, namely on ‘The Score’, we have Tye and Hippie G, as well as production by LABACK. The sound delivered is shimmering and crisp, with a fantastically tight mix that includes a whole lot of electronic elements, organic samples, and post FX processing, for a result that’s mind-bogglingly detailed and quite groovy, in barely perceptible ways.

The rhythm is fragmented and heavily syncopated, the beat does quite line up as we’re all too accustomed to. Instead, it staggers and swaggers with ample confidence. On it, the plethora of vocal lines offer a massive variety of textures, flows, melodic and rhythmic sensibilities, with a steady, revolutionary undercurrent that readily defines the songs from V of 40M.

All in all, ‘The Score’ is a delightfully put-together piece of hip hop. Forward thinking from a lyrical and musical standpoint, V of 40M continue to stun us with their intricate output and the seemingly massive amount of effort that goes into each of their tracks. And we sure hope this never stops.

PRICE OF LOVE aka 4 THE GAME by PROKLAIM

Proklaim’s latest release is a commentary on the state of hip-hop that benefits greatly from his liquid flows and immersive flair that never fails to draw you in to pay attention to every word and rhythmic inflection.

It is not a secret that we’ve grown very fond of Proklaim’s work. A rapper and producer who hails from the Namibian capital Windhoek, Proklaim is a very active musician as he finds writing songs and recording them a gratifying process, and lucky for us because the man hits far more often than he misses.

A genuinely talented performer, Proklaim’s flows and lines are tightly packed and well-delivered. Usually leaning into a more melancholic sound to his thoughtful commentaries and ideas, the darker soundscapes he creates are often appropriately sparse enough to leave ample room for his delivery to flourish, and ‘PRICE OF LOVE aka 4 THE GAME’ is a case in point. Rich vocal presence underneath his lead delivery plays a big role in populating the mix, creating the sound of a larger group in action.

‘PRICE OF LOVE aka 4 THE GAME’ is one more winner for a name that has grown more reliable with time. Even if you don’t dig the words, Proklaim’s sensibilities in crafting rich atmospheres and his hypnotic flows are sure to pull you in.

MACH9NE by ENERGY WHORES

I was really curious as to whether Energy Whores’ music would be as forward as their name. What I found on ‘Mach9ne’ was a blend of electronica with industrial leanings and looming elements of soft and dark emo. A meticulous blend that can only be explained by a band with a particular ethos.

A band of self-proclaimed electronic/AI pop, Energy Whores hail from New York City, and on their latest single ‘Mach9ne’, they are following the narrative of NRG, a robot/human hybrid, as they explore the nature of human relationships in the landscape of today’s technology, as well as our relationship with this technology itself.

The output is a greatly engaging piece of off-kilter pop, defined by a Bjork-esque, freeform vocal approach, delivered in part by robotic and AI-generated voices, and mostly by the band’s softspoken lead vocalist. The music is electronic in its majority, with bustling beats and healthy, pad-led atmospheres, creating a balance between very soft atmospherics and a dense rhythmic outlook. A song that is full of dichotomies, a robotic/human voice dichotomy, and another of the sparse musical landscape with the intricate rhythmic one, ‘Mach9ne’ is an interesting and engaging listen.

‘Mach9ne’ is a trip through its whimsical musical and lyrical ideas that offer immense entertainment and insight into the band’s mentality and point of view. Perhaps the idea of AI pop might still be alien to most of us, but songs like ‘Mach9ne’ work to gently steer us toward it with grace.

Guillotine by ADELINA

Adelina seems to have it easy causing a rouse with each new release. With a sound that oozes stylish charisma and confidence, ‘Guillotine’ is more proof that Adelina is an inspiring performer and a capable songwriter.

Australian electronica artist, based in Perth, Adelina is a singer and songwriter whose latest single, called ‘Guillotine’, comes with seductive grooves, emotive chord sequences, and off-kilter vocal rhythms that fall somewhere between attractive lulls, rapping, and spoken word. An intoxicating blend that’s immediately recognizable.

The flirtatious lyrics delivered by Adelina rub perfectly well off the seductive chords, driving groove, and snaky bass, altogether creating a playful mood that’s then heightened by Adelina’s sensual confidence and effortlessness. ‘Guillotine’ is an outstanding piece of electronic dance music that is ready to start putting dance floors ablaze for a fiery upcoming summer.

Produced in Los Angeles by Ardur Luthersson, the bouncy feel that comes off the slinky bass line, the groove, and Adelina’s placement in the forefront of the mix are all exceptionally executed for a healthy result that sounds lush enough with its relatively few instrumental lines. To transform such a hushed vocal delivery into a line that’s that memorable is a hallmark of great chemistry between artist and producer. ‘Guillotine’ is heaps of dancy fun that’s loaded with character.

Dear Alcohol (Mega Remix) by DAX

The talented and inspiring artist Dax recently released the powerful anthem, “Dear Alcohol (Mega Remix),” where he remade his one-year-old release with a group of gifted musicians, to wrench our hearts even more with the exploration of addiction.

Nearly a year ago, I described Dax as an artist who champions messages he truly believes in. That conviction fuels the power of his music.  But it’s not just the message itself – his delivery elevates it.  He possesses a strong musical foundation that draws listeners in, creating a space for them to connect with his content.

“Dear Alcohol (Mega Remix)” by Dax and featuring Atlus, Kelsie Watts, SkyDxddy, Phix, Kayla Rae & more artists that were chosen from Tik-Tok open verse challenge is not a typical hit, it’s an epic anthem that tackles the internal struggles and destructive behaviors associated with addiction and alcohol abuse.

A few years ago, we at Scouts undertook a powerful initiative to raise awareness about addiction.  Visiting treatment centers and hearing firsthand the devastating stories of those battling addiction left a lasting impact.  This year, we continued our efforts at another facility, encountering yet more heartbreaking experiences.  One common thread resonated across all these encounters, perfectly captured in Dax’s introspective lyric from “Dear Alcohol (Mega Remix)”: “I got wasted cause I didn’t wanna deal with myself tonight.”

Dax along with an impressive lineup of twelve guest artists take us to the depths of addiction’s darkness with their heart-stirring performances. All artists were well chosen and placed, and they all delivered the message melodically and sincerely with their powerful and beautiful voices. This collaborative approach creates a tapestry of voices, highlighting the universality of this battle.

However, the song isn’t just about the darkness of addiction. It sheds light on the strength and courage it takes to confront these demons. It serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of addiction, but also the possibility of healing and finding strength through shared experiences.

Samskara Rad shares sugar-sweet new single ‘Only Fan’

0

Returning as Samskara Rad, Simon Marroco has created a uniquely vibrant sound around his hip-hop core. Bringing constant new influences, sound design and production techniques, his music is an exploration of his creativity. Alongside his music, Simon is also a yoga teacher, starting one of the biggest yoga schools in Australia, St.Kilda Yoga School.

When Samskara Rad dropped ‘Biggest Fan’ last year, it quickly became one of his most listened singles on streaming platforms. The heartwarming synths and four-to-the-floor kick pattern were infectious to his fans, whilst his charming vocal performance made for a great singalong anthem.

For his latest single ‘Only Fan’, Samskara Rad provides a dreamy new context for the song. With reverberant, colourful arpeggios, rattly, laid-back trap drums and otherworldly vocal layers, all come together to create a super sweet new track. The arrangement makes the lyricism feel all the more romantic, with a soft vocal leaning into the gentle glitter of it all. Though it’s great to hear in contrast to the original, it’s also worth a mention as a standalone track, with its emotional and fanciful tones becoming quickly enticing.

Samskara speaks on the release, “A dreamy lullaby bubblegum version of Biggest Fan. For me, it’s hard to do slower-paced songs, as I’m always in the minute and driven by energy. So, writing Only Fan taught me how to create emptiness and space in a song and still be energetic, but with a different emotional vibe.”

Fade Into You by EDIE YVONNE

Edie Yvonne releases her cover of “Fade Into You”…a beautiful and haunting rendition of the Mazzy Star classic…with many unique twists and additional flavors to create a new and fresh experience.

Let me tell you a little heartwarming story first…at the age of 10 Edie Yvonne was invited to perform with a group of kids at the once Bootleg theater at Anna Bulbrook’s Girl School festival. Kristin Kontrol invited kids to perform together with female rock legends and Edie sang Fade Into You… since that remarkable night, it has been her go-to cover thanks to that once-in-a-lifetime

game-changing experience…now, we can jump into the song…

The song begins with a guitar, strumming away with a low-fi kind of mood, after which, has the piano melody jumps in…Yvonne’s voice introduces itself ever so softly…

Yvonne’s vocals remain angelic throughout the song, creating a sense that feels emotionally powerful musically satisfying…and super tasteful.

The song goes for a lo-fi musical direction that fits perfectly with Yvonne’s vocal charisma and unique performance…the song creates an indie and cozy mood that feels so warm…it’s not that common to hear a song and feel warmth…but this happens with Yvonne’s rendition of “Fade Into You”…

Yvonne’s cover of “Fade Into You” is a stunningly realized and powerful rendition that hits all the emotional checkboxes.

Make sure to check out Yvonne’s rendition of “Fade Into You” right away…

Wishing all the best to the talented artist.

Cheers!

Rob Eberle‘s singing style is not only full of emotion and strength but also carries a deep resonance that touches the heart. In 2024, I haven’t come across any artist with a voice as deep and powerful as his. The song “ILYM” explores the profound aspects of family relationships. It fits both quiet contemplation and lively occasions, providing a musical backdrop for a range of feelings. Through heartfelt storytelling and emotive melodies, the music beautifully captures the essence of family ties and human relationships.

The track’s melody is incredibly catchy, especially the chorus – it’s just fantastic! I also want to acknowledge the outstanding production by Blake Stokes and the expert mixing by Andrew Castillo. Together, they truly turned it into one of this year’s standout hits for me, not to mention Rob’s amazing songwriting skills.

This is the follow-up single to “Half Of You” from the upcoming “Collateral Damage” EP. Rob, amidst the pandemic, focused on music, learning production and piano. Recently signed with Earth Program Virgin Records for distribution. Cheers to that!
