The Crack in My Heart by Cosmic Anxiety

0

Berlin duo Cosmic Anxiety – Eli (they/them) on vocals and lyrics, Gasher on production and instrumentation – formed in October 2025 after their previous band, Clash Clash Bang Bang, split, and “The Crack in My Heart” is their debut release, out February 27th. Gasher built the instrumental on a Synthstrom Deluge and showed it to Eli, who wrote the lyrics in one afternoon because the music moved them immediately. They recorded it in a single evening at Studio Ganymed in Berlin. Their own description of starting the project: “We started this band as a therapy, and maybe it will end revolutionarily.”

Musically, the song has a very intimate quality to it, even with the arpeggiated synth layers, because for the most part, those layers are static, which puts the focus on the vocals and the lyrics. These are definitely the best parts of the song. I don’t want to spoil the beautiful lyrics, but they definitely align with the name Cosmic Anxiety – it’s about dealing with the dissonance between having to get up and deal with the mundane, pretending everything is fine when something fundamental about life or the very society we inhabit is anxiety-inducing. It’s something I think we all deal with on a daily basis, and it’s voiced here succinctly.

The late 80s and 90s synthwave influence is audible without the song feeling like a costume. For a debut from a band that’s only been around a few months, the clarity of vision here is striking – they know what they want to say and they found the right sonic frame for it. More releases are planned for 2026, and based on this one, worth keeping an eye on.

International Power by Exzenya

0

Exzenya is a genre-fluid independent artist and entrepreneur based in the US, and she has been building her Exzenya Productions imprint across a surprisingly wide range of styles. I covered her single “Regulator of My Dopamine” previously – a smooth, mature R&B track built for late-night drives, warm and lovey-dovey in its energy. “International Power,” released February 17th, is about as far from that as you can get. This is a political hip-hop statement, composed and deliberate, about earned authority, legacy, and self-definition on a global scale. Same artist, completely different mode.

The track opens a cappella before the production kicks in, which is in line with this kind of aggressive old-school rap style. A short, catchy line sets the mood before the hard beat comes in. The rap cadence is controlled rather than aggressive, which mirrors the song’s central idea: power that doesn’t need to raise its voice. The oscillation between commanding rap sections and more melodic passages gives the track a dynamic range that keeps it from feeling like a one-note flex. Lyrically, she’s drawing on her background in psychology, global entrepreneurship, and conflict resolution – this is someone writing from lived experience rather than constructed bravado, and the difference is audible.

What’s interesting about Exzenya as an artist is how deliberately she refuses to stay in one lane. The R&B and the political hip-hop don’t have much in common on the surface, but both feel authentic to who she is. “International Power” is the more ambitious of the two sides of her catalog so far, and as a statement of intent, it lands with the composure she’s clearly going for.

Silence by 50mething

0

Paul Jenner, the Ealing-based artist behind 50mething, is back with “Silence,” released March 7th – timed just before International Women’s Day alongside two other songs. The subject is women’s safety on the streets, written in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard in the UK. Jenner describes an image that stuck with him: a body hidden, unseen, left until discovered. A girl local to him went missing and was later found in a river. The song is his way of keeping that in the forefront rather than letting it get brushed under the carpet. At 58, recording everything at home on a 24-track digital recorder and sending it out through SoundBetter for mixing and mastering by Sefi Carmel, he’s got 70 tracks in the catalogue and is releasing them gradually. I covered his previous single, “You Can’t Tear It Up” – another song that used bright, danceable music to carry a serious message.

“Silence.” further illustrates the uniqueness of 50mething‘s style, where whimsical and almost cartoonishly colorful and beautiful musical accompaniment shares the stage with lyrics that are thematically powerful yet address serious topics. On paper, it might seem gimmicky or that it detracts from the impact and seriousness of the lyrics, but it absolutely doesn’t – it’s executed with supreme taste.

The contrast is the whole point, and Jenner clearly understands that. His own take on his approach is worth quoting: “The detail is in the storytelling. Too much stuff gets reported on and then forgotten about. It’s important to keep things in the forefront if we want to see change.” Two songs in, that’s exactly what 50mething is doing.

Fierbinteanu Drops Electro-Punk Anthem “Merrymaking” – Hope Springs Eternal in the Battle of Dictators & Billionaires vs. You & Me

0

What was the last huge political dance song that everyone knew and loved or hated but could not ignore? What was the last track that united or polarised the music industry like never before? What was the last song that drove the politicians and billionaires completely mad?

Hope springs eternal!

Fierbinteanu, the Brussels-based future-of-music brigade, delivers the answer with their latest bouncy retro-electro single Merrymaking — a syncopated three-minute pop explosion of synth-driven hooks, positive-acidic lyrics, and pure dancefloor defiance.

“It is about this spectacle — merrymaking — with dictators and billionaires and how can one still trust — with stubborn naïveté — that, through song and dance, things could get a tiny little better!” explains Cristian Fierbinteanu. “But it is not a protest song.”

The second verse says it all: “I’m so creative, and innovative, take over billionaires! Hope springs eternal! It’s complicated, it’s what dictators can’t bear!”

Produced and recorded in Brussels, “Merrymaking” follows hot on the heels of September’s “Women of the World” and has already lit up live stages in the UK to rave receptions. The mysterious cover artwork is a collage by Cristi Mărculescu, perfectly matching the track’s theatrical, eye-candy energy.

With its bouncy retro-pop vibe and irresistible groove, “Merrymaking” is built for the dancefloor — and for anyone who still believes a good song can shake the system just a little.

“Hope to include these numbers in a future album,” say the duo.

A LUMINOUS ELECTRONIC PULSE BUILT FOR LATE-NIGHT MOTION!

0

With the release of Step Up The Steam, Copenhagen-based producer Q2mix delivers a vibrant electronic single that blends commercial dance energy with glossy pop sensibilities. The track arrives as a polished and uplifting addition to the modern dance landscape, offering listeners a sound that is both dynamic and effortlessly engaging. From the first moments, Step Up The Steam establishes an inviting atmosphere where rhythm, melody, and motion intertwine.

The track unfolds over a steady four-on-the-floor beat that provides a strong rhythmic backbone. Crisp percussion, syncopated hi-hats, and subtle claps shape a groove that feels lively without becoming overwhelming. The tempo keeps the music moving forward with confidence, while gentle transitions and drum details add texture and progression. This rhythmic foundation gives the song its club-ready drive, encouraging movement while maintaining a relaxed, accessible feel.

Step Up The Steam shines through bright synth motifs and layered electronic textures that create a sense of lift and clarity. Warm pads and sparkling sonic accents gradually expand the arrangement, leading toward a melodic rise that feels both satisfying and fluid. The vocal lines glide smoothly above the instrumental landscape, functioning as both hooks and atmospheric elements that add warmth and human presence to the track.

Q2mix’s production demonstrates a careful sense of balance. Each sound element, from bass to synth layers, sits cleanly within the mix, allowing the track to breathe while maintaining a steady sense of momentum. Rather than relying on intensity alone, the song builds its energy through clarity, layering, and flow.

Q2mix shapes Step Up The Steam into a track defined by motion and luminous energy, an electronic piece that feels perfectly suited for late-night listening, dancefloor moments, and the quiet thrill of letting rhythm carry you forward.

FROM VALIDATION TO LIBERATION!

0

In “People Pleaser,” Katie Belle transforms a deeply personal reckoning into a vibrant electro-pop statement. The Atlanta and Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter, collaborating with producer Fabio Campedelli, shapes a track that moves between introspection and release with striking clarity. With sleek modern production and lyrics that speak directly to the quiet exhaustion of living for others’ approval, “People Pleaser” by Katie Belle unfolds as both confession and declaration.

The song opens with a restrained electronic pulse and shimmering synth textures that gradually draw the listener inward. Beneath the surface hum of bass-driven rhythms, Belle’s breathy soprano enters with delicate vulnerability. The early lines immediately establish the emotional landscape: “Nineteen / it was hard to be me / I was starved for validation / it was all I could eat.” In just a few words, the song captures the quiet pressure of shaping oneself around expectations.

As the verses linger in reflection, the production slowly gathers momentum. Filtered synth layers and inventive beat programming introduce subtle movement, while the rhythm settles into a triplet groove that adds a gentle bounce to the track’s electronic backbone. This careful build allows the chorus to arrive with a sense of genuine release.

When it does, the soundscape expands dramatically. The chorus opens into a bright, dance-floor-ready groove where Belle’s voice stands confidently at the center of the mix. Here, the message becomes unmistakable: “No more / people pleaser / sweet demeanor / I’m gonna save me all for myself.” The shift from quiet introspection to bold self-assertion gives the song its emotional lift, turning vulnerability into something almost celebratory.

Belle’s vocal performance carries the narrative with nuance. At times soft and confessional, at others sharp with resolve, her delivery mirrors the internal transformation unfolding within the lyrics. Small stylistic details: spoken-word ad-libs, layered harmonies, and playful vocal textures add personality without overshadowing the song’s central message.

The track explores the cost of constant self-performance and the courage required to abandon it. Lines such as “Look at what I have done / anything to be loved” acknowledge the human desire for connection, while the darker imagery of rebirth arrives with striking clarity: “Watch me coming back from the dead / I just killed the girl you thought I was inside of your head.” The metaphor becomes a powerful declaration of reclaiming identity from the expectations of others.

Production-wise, the song remains impressively polished throughout. Bass-heavy electronic grooves anchor the arrangement, while shimmering synth lines and crisp percussion maintain a sleek contemporary pop aesthetic. The contrast between the moody verses and the expansive chorus gives the track a cinematic sense of movement, allowing emotional tension and release to coexist within the same sonic landscape.

With “People Pleaser,” Katie Belle delivers more than a polished electro-pop release. She offers a musical moment of transformation, one that turns private struggle into a bold, rhythmic act of self-definition. In doing so, Katie Belle’s “People Pleaser” stands as both a compelling pop production and a resonant reminder that sometimes the most powerful step forward begins with the courage to stop performing for everyone else.

THE SOUND OF THE DANCEFLOOR BREATHING AT DAWN!

0

There is a particular moment on the dancefloor when the night begins to loosen its grip and the first hints of morning appear on the horizon. It is a quiet, suspended hour when the crowd has thinned, the rhythm continues almost gently, and the music seems to breathe differently. In that fragile space between exhaustion and clarity, electronic artist SLAPPER introduces his new single “The Break of Day,” a melodic trance release that captures the emotional stillness of sunrise after a long night of movement.

Emerging from Bucharest’s electronic scene, SLAPPER has steadily built a distinctive sonic identity rooted in cinematic textures and emotionally driven synth work. With “The Break of Day,” The ARTIST leans into the nostalgic language of late-90s and early-2000s Ibiza trance, while keeping the production firmly grounded in a modern electronic palette.

The track settles into a steady 125 BPM pulse, guided by a confident four-on-the-floor beat that anchors the composition from the outset. Rather than overwhelming the arrangement with dense percussion, the rhythm remains clean and spacious, giving the track room to unfold naturally. Over this steady groove, warm synth pads begin to shimmer into view, spreading gradually across the mix like the earliest glow of morning light.

What follows is a carefully paced progression. SLAPPER allows the melodic layers to accumulate patiently, building atmosphere rather than rushing toward an immediate peak. Soft arpeggios ripple through the soundscape while ambient textures ebb and flow around the rhythm. The result feels immersive without ever becoming heavy.

Midway through the arrangement, the emotional core of the track begins to reveal itself. A melodic lead emerges slowly from the background, reflective at first, before expanding into a brighter, more uplifting motif. The shift is subtle but meaningful, echoing the gradual transformation suggested by the title itself.

The sound design carries a warmth that nods toward the analog spirit of classic trance while maintaining the clarity of contemporary production. There is a sense of nostalgia woven into the synth tones, yet the track never feels trapped in the past. Instead, it moves forward with quiet confidence, balancing dreamy atmospheres with a rhythm that keeps the body gently engaged.

By the final stretch, the piece achieves a delicate equilibrium between calm and momentum. The ambient layers give the track a floating, almost cinematic quality, while the persistent beat continues to guide the listener forward. It is both relaxing and energizing, the kind of electronic moment that feels reflective without losing its dancefloor pulse.

In many ways, “The Break of Day” by SLAPPER continues the emotional thread present in earlier releases such as Waves, Wandering, and Follow Your Dreams, where melodic storytelling and atmosphere remain central to the project’s identity. Here, however, that vision feels especially clear. With SLAPPER’s “The Break of Day,” the producer offers a glowing reminder that sometimes the most powerful moments on the dancefloor arrive not at midnight, but in the quiet breath of morning when the music and the rising sun seem to move together.

Big Cat Season Releases Dreamy Debut EP “Summer” – A Nostalgic Synth-Pop Journey Through Midlife Reflection

0

Synth/dreampop indie duo Big Cat Season unveils their highly anticipated debut EP, (Summer), a lush sonic marker of ’90s nostalgia colliding with adult ennui. Available now on all major streaming platforms, the four-track collection layers sweet and raw analog guitar with soaring harmonies over crisp digital synth arpeggios and immersive soundscapes—capturing the bittersweet push/pull of looking back at endless possibilities while navigating the narrowing road of midlife.

Big Cat Season—Tom Durkin and Melissa Dudek—grew up in the same Boston suburb, lost touch for 17 years, then reconnected through old friends and the enduring spirit of their high school music scene. Their sound is a Myst-like adventure: dreamy, questioning, and deeply human.

“Our first EP (Summer) was entirely written, recorded, produced, and mixed by the two of us,” shares the duo. “Songwriting begins with the intense midlife drive to minimize regret and shape your life from this new vantage point. If youth is wasted on the young, then midlife can’t waste a second more. Right now, the past is fresh and clarifying, the nostalgia is strong, and the future is laid out in hazy, complicated patterns.”

The EP’s lead single, “I’m in the Wrong,” perfectly encapsulates this theme—dreamy questioning nostalgia meeting the uncertain road ahead.

Influenced by their ’90s childhood, the harmonies of Veruca Salt and Alice In Chains, the synth-heavy grooves of LCD Soundsystem, and modern dream-pop icons like MGMT, Department of Eagles, Beach House, and Phantogram, Big Cat Season crafts music that feels both timeless and urgently personal.

Whoever we become, we lay down this music as a marker to who we are now,” the duo adds. “Whatever wisdom our future self holds, we’ll look back on it with new understanding—and, of course, nostalgia.”

Stream (Summer) today and let the nostalgia wash over you.

Los Angeles, CA – March 2026 – Ginger Linger drops “InSanity,” a raw, unflinching new release that stares straight into the void of identity, invisibility, and working-class rage.
