R&B Auteur Eleanor Daydreams of Love that Could Be on “Waste My Time”

0

Eleanor is a singer/ songwriter, her sound is R&B leaning, with accents of soul and indie influence. She takes a narrative approach to songwriting, leaning on experiences of grief and overcoming to shape stories that are robust and deeply felt. Eleanor has recently contributed backup vocals to the published music of Chad Price, Texas King, and Emanuel whose album Alt Therapy was nominated for two JUNO Awards. Her forthcoming debut A Late Bloom EP is set for release this summer.

New single, “Waste My Time,” was inspired by a friendship that was tiptoeing into a relationship. The title encompasses the chorus and the thesis of the song. It’s also connected to the theme that ties this whole body of work together – time is fleeting and passing time was a major preoccupation of Eleanor’s while working on A Late Bloom.

Afro R&B tribute to Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”

0

ANGEL X STAR are a brother and sister duo from Hertfordshire, UK. Creating infectious Afro pop, R&B anthems, their music brings to mind the likes of Brandy, Aaliyah, Tems and Rema. Having grown up in a musical family, Angel and Star started singing together at church and other local events as a trio with their other sister. Sadly, their younger sister passed away, and refusing to let go of what held them together, they decided to continue with their music and honour her legacy. Experiencing loss and navigating grief, the duo expressed their pain through music, confiding, “We felt that we couldn’t relate to other artists and decided to make music for us and for our own healing, but then realised that this could also be helpful to those experiencing something similar too.”

Their latest release “Jolene” is a fun take on Dolly Parton’s 1974 hit song. Beginning as an experiment, the duo wanted to create a modern version in the Afro R&B genre. The two share, “This is a heartbreak song  inspired by Dolly Parton. We took the vision and the hurt from that song and related it to our own heartbreak. Angel is singing about a girl he ”fumbled” yet to find out that that was his love, his first love and Star comes  from a different perspective asking questions like, “you could have told me that love will hurt like this”.”

“Jolene” combines two different backgrounds of pain, but all rooted in love. With a throbbing, bouncy beat, soulful, layered harmonies and playful synths, the duo put their own stamp and twist on the 70’s anthem.

ANGEL X STAR have performed to sold-out audiences and received airplay on radio stations including BBC 1Xtra from the likes of DJ Target. 2023 is set to be a big year for the duo, as they enter into a new chapter with their fresh sound

80’s Sci-fi Horror Meets Twisted Fantasy Day Dream // New Single

0

Connecticut born and bred artist Jake Huffman creates a euphoric realm of indie pop rock, bringing his anthemic energy to a global audience.  As lead vocalist and drummer, the multi-instrumentalist was previously known for his time in the viral alt rock band, McLovins. Having taken the time to rediscover who he is as a solo artist, Huffman returns with a complete arsenal of new music, all of which has been entirely written, performed and produced by Jake himself.

Huffman’s latest single “Babe” was created when the artist was going down a rabbit hole of indie pop/rock/funk songs. He shares, “Something about the bass lines and the hard hitting syncopation really hit the spot. I wanted to capture that vibe and put my own spin on the genre. What’s cool and different about this track is how haunted and dark it feels. I think I captured an 80s sci-fi horror mixed into a twisted fantasy like day dream.” A standout song on the upcoming EP, “Babe” will metaphorically skulk through the shadows of your ears.

Thematically, “Babe” is left open for listeners to interpret however they desire, allowing the feel-good song to let the music do the talking. Huffman explains, “I didn’t want to cloud the energy of the song by over-thinking the lyrics or trying to insert deeper meaning into the song. It’s my opinion that some surface level situations end up more significant overtime. The song was created by chasing that feeling, what’s interesting is even now when I listen back I find more nuance than I originally intended.”

Huffman’s latest project is an amalgamation of his musical influences and vast heritage of experience. At the age of 14, Huffman and his band McLovins posted on YouTube a cover of Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself” from his parents basement in Connecticut. Overnight the video went viral and sparked a rabid following of fans around the world. Since then, he has shared the stage with Blink-182, Foster The People, BB King and The Flaming Lips.

Huffman has garnered humbling praise from the likes of the Rolling Stone, US Weekly, NPR and legendary XPN Radio Programming Director and DJ Bruce Warren, as well as also having caught the attention of Emmy, Grammy and Tony award-winning producer and composer Bill Sherman (Hamilton, In The Heights, Sesame Street) and Glee producer Michael Novick. Meanwhile on television, the musician has left an imprint as a composer and lyricist for Sesame Street, writing dozens of songs for artists like Ed Sheeran and Leon Bridges. With plenty more on the horizon, it looks like 2023 will be an explosive year for Jake Huffman.

Iaye Unleashed The Blue!

0
I’ve always loved the word “blue.” It’s so melancholic. It’s a piece of ink etched into my skin.

Iaye song, “blue,” is a remorseful reflection on a breakup. It’s written from the point of view of someone that felt like they weren’t the best version of themselves for the person that maybe deserved that the most.

“I feel seen by “blue.” It’s for the lovers that are trying to unlearn past toxic tendencies.” She described.

“For some reason, I have a fixation on loneliness when it comes to writing and my music. Even when I’ve been in love, I can’t help but write from the point of view of losing that love. I feel like that’s when you realize how vulnerable you are, when you’re in the midst of something great – you realize what’s at stake.” – Iaye explained.

blue” began with a voice note I recorded of “I’m so fucking blue,” which became part of the song’s hook. Stevie Aiello and Cici Ward collaborated with me to bring “blue” to life. This song is really for the self-sabotaging, self-reflecting hopeless romantics. I hope that it can find you.” Iaye added.

Have you celebrated your F**ked-up-ness?

0
You know when you wake up thinking you know yourself and then by the day’s end things have turned upside down and inside out?
Tara Van wrote, “Fucked-up-ness,” after attending a bold one-woman fringe show by Vikki Velenosi.
“In an unexpected turn of events, Vikki’s raw performance mirrored things I had been experiencing my whole life but never had the words for: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her autobiographical theatre piece helped me see my life as the tragicomedy that it is. I went home feeling joyfully and painfully seen. Shortly after, I started the process of getting the help that I need.” Tara said.
“Despite some advances, neurodiversity is still stigmatized. It is often dismissed as a lack of resilience, or seen as a source of suspicion. For those of you out there who are feeling lost or overwhelmed – talk to a therapist and/or doctor. Assumptions of normativity are fucked up, not you. Ok, maybe you too…but on your terms.” Tara added.

???? Be empowered by your “Fucked-up-ness” by listening to my song here????

This song is about embracing your fucked-up-ness! We’ve all got our shit, don’t feel pressured to mask it. Being human is being fucked up. Worship your weirdness and join me in committing to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Jesse Roper Releases A New Song

We’re excited to share that “Make It All Work Out” by Jesse Roper is available on DSPs!
Along with a live, acoustic version on video.
“This song turned out to be me predicting my own future. She walked on me again – and I get it – my life doesn’t follow the status quo script of getting a predictable job, finding a predictable partner, buying a barely affordable house, having a baby, and living life happily ever after waiting for the next Netflix mini series to make monotonous life bearable. That isn’t me.” – Jesse said.

“I wrote it thinking about times gone past, and sent it along to Producer Gus van Go. The bass line and rhythm popped straight into his head basically the same as I heard it in mine and before we even got together to record it, the song was ready. It’s a laidback sit in your chair and bop your head tune with a couple energy elements that make me wanna shake. Everyone needs something to make their butt wiggle.” he added.

Hounds by MedsE

0

Artist MedsE based in Malmo, Sweden, released a steadily funky and cool tech house song called ‘Hounds’, on the 22 of March. MedsE started his musical journey in 2021, and with huge interest and willpower to produce music, you can really feel the good energy in this song like no other. The mix between techno music and grime makes a great cocktail of genres that is easily blended into a wonderful sound.

The song is such hype and a fresh bump of adrenaline with a nostalgic end of the 90’s mashup of techno and house music. The overall sound of the song is energetic and upbeat, with some really funny lyrics and good rhymes. The musical arrangement is rich, with a hardcore house melody, and a steady and electrifying beat using a techno touch. There are harsh electronic sounds that are kind of imitating compressed electric guitar shredding, minimal prominent cymbals regulating the somehow slow beat, a nice techno percussion set, and clapping sound effects. The vocals are natural and sound random in a cool way. The fast rapping intensifies the beat’s vibe and takes it to a higher level. Add this song to your playlist for a unique mix of rap and techno.

Low by Eddz

0

Eddz has a sound with a particular edge that’s sure to attract a steady stream of appreciation and has been around only since 2021, he’s surely about to soar any day now.

Low is the title of Eddz’s latest single release, and Eddz is the moniker of the Northampton-based songwriter/musician Liam Taylor, whose boombox and microphone have seen him rocking out shows in and around London and Northampton, but don’t be fooled by Eddz’s simplistic setup, as that boombox plays some of the freshest pop music around, and his microphone sees him laying down sharp social commentary that gives his music a layer of depth that’s rare and valuable.

Eddz’s dark pop on Low features a dramatic string arrangement and a massively distorted electric guitar line on the chorus that is contrasted by a sparse beat and glassy piano chords that compliment Taylor’s spoken prose on the rich verses. The contrast provides the song with a dynamic feel that propels the whole construct forward. Eddz’s contemplative lyrics and statesman delivery of them lend an air of doom to the song that is further amplified by the soaring, end-of-the-world string arrangement, resulting in a piece of pop that’s heavy, meaningful, and impactful.

Fusing the spoken poetry of The Clientele with the orchestral tendencies of Britpop legends like Oasis and Johnny Marr makes for a fresh, unprecedented sound that’s sure to turn heads and grab attention. Low is a fresh-sounding piece of contemporary pop from an inventive, new face that deserves every ounce of attention he gets. I’ll waiting for much more from Eddz.

Heaven by Trinisha Browne

Trinisha Browne’s latest single might be giving a little taste of what can be expected on her upcoming EP set to release in the summer of 2023. With its sensual, breezy vibes, Heaven is pretty close to being the perfect early summer hit.

Trinisha Browne is a Canadian pop artist based in Montreal. A singer/songwriter whose sound touches on hip hop and rap. On her latest single, titled Heaven, she establishes an atmosphere that’s light and airy, with granular synth pads, a minimal percussion track, and her processed and delicate vocal delivery.

“Heaven is a state of mind” sings Trinisha on the refrain of the single, backed with a minimal atmosphere of instruments, and the results are sublimely chill and enjoyable. Her voice is soft and the warmth of the composition is a perfect compliment, along with the song’s crisp and hi-fi production. Heaven is a top-quality piece of contemporary pop with endless replay value.

I could easily imagine myself vibing to this song’s sensual sound on a sunny beach, or having it on full blast on a summery road trip with friends. The song’s open sound along with Trinisha’s delicate and warm voice make for a very healthy musical meal.
