Te Conoci Bailando by JOSHUA MARTIN

0

South California, the sunny state with an ocean view…a birthplace of many unique artists…where their star shined brighter…and it’s where Joshua Martin was born and raised, and sure enough, his star is shining brighter every day…

Joshua Martin discovered he had a talent for writing songs around when he was ten… interestingly, he didn’t learn to play a musical instrument, instead, he went to get a 16-track recorder…Joshua is a very rare case of a born-ready-music producer.

Around that age, Joshua wrote lyrics then went on to create melodies…and before that 16-track recorder, he had to memorize all his melodies, because he didn’t have any other way to keep track of the melodies that were created and trapped in his mind.

He came a long way from the 16-track recorder…to now, being an expert with his go-to digital audio workstation software, Logic Pro.

Joshua grew up in a time where he was heavily influenced by 80s pop, dark wave, reggae, and Latin music in general, that’s evident in his musical creations, you’ll get to see a fusion between elements of each of these genres…some of the other artists that he enjoys listening to include the No Doubt, Aterciopelados and The Cure.

For his latest works…Joshua created a song and its remix, a very interesting approach…

Not just for the fans, but because Joshua made the song and the remix in completely different moods, and genres…it’s basically like you’re listening to the same song but in a completely new light…even the core musical progressions are different…such a unique concept…

It’s like one of those things…when you see it, you say to yourself “how didn’t I think of that before?

Joshua wrote “Te Conoci Bailando” and its “Te Conoci Bailando – Sunshine is Coming” remix and released them…and let’s talk about these two versions…what’s different and why they’re two very enjoyable sides of the same experience.

Starting with “Te Conoci Bailando”…

It started with a reggae kind of guitar rhythm to it…

…but when the beat starts it takes you to a more 80s kind of straight beat that gets you moving…

Then the brass section hits some very catchy licks…

The vocals are doing the heavy lifting, with an extremely catchy melody and some amazing harmonies…

…getting to the other side…getting into the “Te Conoci Bailando – Sunshine is Coming” remix…

…I believe the experience should go like this…you start with the original…and keep listening, and it will automatically go into the remix… when you stitch these two songs together, you’ll get a different experience…

It’s like you’re in one place and then get transported to a completely different place and experience.

The sunshine remix is a tropical fruit punch with a little umbrella bathing in it, feeling the ocean breeze, and listening to waves smoothly crashing on the beach…all while getting a bit of a tan.

The instrumentation between the two songs is completely different…

The original has a stronger flavor of reggae and pop.

While the remix is full of tropical electronica…

I would highly recommend it if you go through the original and organically go into the remix…

Joshua has made a couple of big splashes so far in his career…

He performed at the Tomlin Theatre at the LGBT center in LA, Mi Centro Pride in DTLA…he’s also been featured on Voyage LA.

He was also featured in a TV spot at the Cannes Festival that went viral…

Joshua, you’re rising fast, shining bright, and have an absolute banger of a career in front of you…we wish you all the luck in the world.

Make sure you guys check out Joshua Martin’s “Te Conoci Bailando” and “Te Conoci Bailando – Sunshine is Coming” remix…you’re in for a treat.

Symphony of Sorrow by Genevieve Charbonneau

0

Country, folk, bluegrass, and Americana are (or at least used to be) genres that many consider being products of their time. In the case of Canadian singer-songwriter Genevieve Charbonneau though, her latest single “Symphony Of Sorrow” borrows elements from all these genres without being a stereotypical or exemplary piece.

The track begins with a soft chord progression on a solitary guitar, which is slowly joined by a string arrangement as we transition into the chorus. The vocals are soft and airy, but they gain more power in the chorus and especially during the climactic and riffy phrase “I will find the melody, I will find the rhyme”.

The string section gets more percussive and powerful during the bridge section after the second chorus, which transported me into an indie fantasy film where I’m the main character. The strength of the arrangement lies in how well it delivers the emotions along with the lyrics.

Things calm down and we can hear one last verse before we head into that beautiful chorus one last time, and everything feels like it’s in the perfect place. At the end of it, I felt like “Symphony Of Sorrow” is one of those compositions where everything falls perfectly into place, and there is no single element or note that I would change about it. This song is for those days when you feel a melancholic cloud overlaying you and you want a song to relate to, but also to give you that tiny-yet-much-needed ray of hope.

Void by Static Null

0

Artist Static Null based in Hoor, Sweden released a magically chill and relaxing song called ‘Void’, that will send you to a deep sleep while you’re wide awake with its smooth vibe. The song is electronic but pretty much experimental because of its unique sound. The song was released on the 24th of March, and it’s so perfect we wish for more deep and enriching musical creations like this. Null likes to work with the concept of man and machine and how they interact with each other on different levels and aspects.

This song feels alternative yet you wouldn’t really be capable of pointing out why. The first thing that can to our mind after listening to this is a cold forest, with silence and clouds dangling over it and then we discover that the artist really does make the music in the forest. The overall sound of the song is perfect for releasing any pent-up emotions. There is a dark nature sound with an ethereal and dreamy soundscape. The musical arrangement is minimal yet rich at the same time. You’ve got magical sound effects that feel surrealistic and a yearning for flute sound, and the beat is an extremely slow and immersive experience. There are minimal drums and snares, a single vocal sound effect on a loop, and a backing electric guitar sound effect that is too subtle to make out. Also, there are shaking sound effects that make the calm and relaxing melody a little bit spicy.  A unique blend of emotions made up into one beautiful instrumental piece.

Tears In The Club – No Tears Mix by Remus Rujinschi

0

Artist Remus Rujinschi based in Timișoara, Romania released a wonderful electronic pop remix of the song ‘Tears in the club’ on the 19th of October in 2022.

It’s a sweet musical piece with a good vibe and is good for dancing and releasing some energy. Remus is a music producer and composer who has been working in the music industry for more than 30 years, thus his talent in his musical arrangements and sound. Remus explains that he just wants to bring joy and peace to the world by making unique blends and fusions of his experimental music sessions.

You will really enjoy the pop touch of the song and the spicy and joyful remix. The remake of the song is beautiful and feels like a pop of positivity mixed with angelic and soft vocals. The overall sound of the song is laidback with lots of spice. It’s good for jamming, car rides, or the club. A relaxed track contrasted with a dramatic sound. You’ve got a slow pace with many transitions from soft to more intense sounds. The song is generally an ethereal sound bed that is soft, and the vocals are heartfelt and angelic. with very intense drums and harsh electronic sound effects. Magical sound effects, falling sound effects, clock sound effects.

Somebody by Proklaim

Rapper Proklaim released a new potent hip hop single “Somebody” on the 23rd of March from Windhoek, Namibia.

Proklaim, also known as Kult Status, is an MC who was born in Uganda, raised in Zambia, and is now based in Namibia. The artist is spreading a unique message of a Carpe Diem mindset in God’s Glory through the powerful medium of hip-hop.

Proklaim’s latest release is “Somebody” which is an absolute banger, with endless rhymes flowing in a captivating delivery, backed by a powerful instrumental.

From the intro of the track, Proklaim’s voice is instantly charismatic and commanding of attention, with an incredibly catchy hook that lands so tightly on the beat.

The beat is reminiscent of old-school hip hop, but a modernized version of the traditionally jazzy, funky, groovy, and bluesy genre, that adds a contemporary edge and modern ‘bite’ to the music in its atmosphere, melody, and general vibe.

The first verse is when I was truly amazed by Proklaim’s ability as an MC, with his tight spit on the mic, flow, delivery, and rhythm being at the level of the greats in the golden age of storytelling hip hop, all coupled with his creative and powerful writing. I bet you’ll be humming the outro after listening to this one.

EP: Green Acres Motel by Gunslingers

0

After inviting fellow musicians to collaborate and lend their instruments to her songs, Lou Heneise (vocals/songwriting/guitar/banjo/fiddle/ percussion) joined forces with John Swan III (harmonies/banjo/ percussion/trumpet), Michael Vasquez (Mandolin), and Jon Howard (Fiddle) forming Gunslingers. Mixing their folk influences with indie rock and dark doomy tunes, they dropped their EP Green Acres Motel on the 24th of March 2023, and today we’re going to dig deep into it.

Gunslingers opened Green Acres Motel with the mellow yet dark sounding How to Sleep, it has a smooth subtle flow with deep emotional doomy vibes that reminded me of Subrosa’s work. The warm acoustic arpeggios went perfectly with the mesmerizing charismatic vocals, as both kept the mood balanced and made me put How to Sleep on repeat for a while before moving to the next song, awesome opening. Happy Hunting comes next with a more open sound and dreamy vocal harmonies. The sliding guitar added a bright layer to Gunslingers’ mix, while their laidback pace and subtle melodies kept their sound intact and uncompromised. Step Up comes next with an uplifting sound and a more dynamic approach than its predecessors. A multilayered tune with groovy guitars and powerful vocals with a storytelling flow that keeps you hooked and paying full attention until its very last note. Next around the middle of the EP comes the heart-hitting Old Friend. A touching tune with fiddle lines that go straight hitting your heart at the perfect spot, while the guitars and vocals do their magic with the signature fluidity and filled-with-emotions sound that creates a deep connection with the listener. My favorite song off Green Acres Motel. Steering into a more dynamic area and progressing structure comes Winking, it mixes a groovy playful flow with its doomy psychedelic sound in a beautiful well-written mix. Ending the EP with a new twist with Gloryland, a folky chant that reminded me of Viking-influenced tunes that I believe, would benefit from getting an electric version with a big sound, it has the potential of being a regular singalong part of their performances.

Green Acres Motel is one hell of an emotionally enjoyable ride with Gunslingers, it shows their seasoned writing skills and their well-knowledge of their sound and direction as they kept on pushing forward without losing focus at all. Looking forward to more from Gunslingers, keep on rocking guys. Cheers!

An interview with Jan Youri – Alors on tourne

0

French musician Jan Youri writes, composes, pems, mixes, and produces all of her own music. She is a solo artist, yet her music has the polish and nuanced sensibilities of a full band. In February 2022, she launched her debut album, “Bercer le Bonheur,” which has one English song and eleven mesmerizing songs in French.

We interviewed the sensational musician to learn more about her musical background, her career to date, and her upcoming projects. We also discussed her album, the standout song “Alors on tourne,” and her future plans.

  • Hello, Jan Youri! First, I’d like to state what an exceptional artist you are. Your music is different and distinct from what’s usually out there. What are your main influences? And would you say the French music scene has much impact on your sound?

Thank you!!  My influences are certainly unconscious, I listened to a lot of different music and I was rocked by the sound of Pink Floyd which is obviously found in my guitar solos (laugh)

The music I listen to is different than the music I make. I don’t know where it comes from!

The French music scene has indeed had to play its role too, but it is not preponderant.

  • Listening to your music makes it easy to tell that we’re in awe of a gifted and proficient artist. When did your musical journey begin? And did you have musicians in your family who planted the artistic seed in you?

*Smile*

That’s nice. My musical journey must have started quite early in my head when I was listening to Michael Jackson in the street and walking on the dead leaves that lit up live!

My father gave me the ‘false side’ of my singing which gives it all its charm! And from my mother the passion for music and the times when I sing right! I don’t come from a family of musicians, my grandfather was a producer…..but of wine!

  • How do you find inspiration for new music?

I sit down on the piano or on the guitar, then I play with a few chords and I wait… I wait for it to come…then all of a sudden, the song just comes out.

  • Which comes first when you’re writing a new piece; music, or lyrics?

It depends, there’s really no rule. One day I decide on writing lyrics and then end up sitting at the piano. Another day I’m spinning some chords and end up with lyrics introducing themselves. It’s very original !!!

  • Your album “Bercer le Bonheur” builds quite a realm through its diversity and authenticity. How long have you been working on it? And how did it feel to finally see it streamed?

It’s a great joy because it’s like a “finalization”. It took me 6 months to make this album, I was working on it almost day and night! I also spent a lot of time learning about mixing and mastering because I wasn’t fortunate enough to hire a sound engineer! Luckily, I mastered a little computer music.

  • Which song on the album best encapsulates your identity as a musician and as a person? And why this one?

I’m sorry but I can’t choose just one, they are all different and they all represent my multi-faced musical identity. I also like to make pure electro music even if there is none in the album. I define myself in no style, I can do everything and its opposite in the same minute. On the other hand, my favorite song from the album is ‘Horizon Celeste’, especially the chorus….no special reason, it’s just a story of sensitivity.

  • Your music videos have a retro aesthetic with black and white clips. Do you believe this approach best suits your album? Or is there a general preference?

*Laugh*

That is because I haven’t gone back home for 7 months and so I don’t have any equipment to do music videos, so I chose to do film editing and most films I take are free of rights, they are old and therefore in black and white! I don’t know if this is what suits my music best but I like their universe and their atmosphere which remain consistent with what I do.

  • Your single “Alors on Tourne” is indeed moving, even for non-French speakers. It has a subtly melancholic flavor that is enhanced by your dulcet, melodious vocals, and mellow melodies.  What prompted you to pen it? Does it have a certain story behind it?

You will be disappointed but I have to be honest. No personal story or chosen topic. I sat at my table one evening and wrote the lyrics as they came.

One sentence led to another, then the internalization process took over hand in hand with the subconscious. I just had to write what my brain was telling me. It’s a pretty simple process….you wait for it to come out and then you write.

  • Out of all the twelve tracks on the album, which one was the hardest to write or perform? And why?

Without hesitation: “Comme en Enfer.”  Because I decided to make the song in ternary (3 parts) to give it a certain lightness for I found its context quite heavy. Composing the music was not very difficult, the hardest part was singing to it! Besides, at one point I speak because I never managed to sing the sentence!!

  • You seamlessly blend genres, write soulfully, and perform passionately. How can you describe your music to someone who hasn’t listened to it yet?

If you have a little punk spirit and no concern for perfection, you like what is out of the ordinary, and you’re not scared of hearing words you don’t understand but it still speaks to you. Then this album is for you.

  • Thank you for your time! I thoroughly enjoyed your music and eagerly await more. Can you let us know your upcoming plans?

Thank you for this nice interview. As for what’s next, I will continue to make myself known, it takes a lot of time and energy. And I’m going to try to put together a concert of the album while currently working on the next album but I’m taking it slowly. Looking forward to seeing you again for an interview for the future album, thank you again.

Crumble by Jason Shand

0

Relationships sometimes reach an edgy point when it’s hard to leave and even harder to stay. How does one feel when things are falling apart like this? It’s perfectly captured in the soulful yet spirited single “Crumble” by Jason Shand.

The singer/songwriter Jason Shand is undoubtedly skilled at blending several genres and difficult emotions into one cohesive work of art with intriguing aesthetics. His latest release, Crumble,” with its relatable, touching lyricism, vivid, well-blended musicality, and poignant vocal delivery, is enough evidence of his musicianship.

“Crumble” starts off with a delicate intro that puts one in a serene mood. A silky, flowing vocal line soon makes a delightful entry. Together, the singing and music build a heartfelt ambiance until they burst into flames. It strikes the ideal balance between intimacy and intensity.

The song depicts the co-dependency in relationships and how it makes things go south, yet seeing the wreckage doesn’t mean that one won’t stop imagining their life without their partner as “If you walk away. I will crumble.” Illustrating this pushing and pulling in a relationship in the lyrics is definitely on-point.

How the composition swings between dulcet and peppy get one hooked easily, effortlessly moved, and grooves along. The atmospheric instrumentation is what helps the most in making one soar, whether they like tranquility or vibrancy. And Jason Shand has captivating vocal abilities that entice one to endless repeats.

This is your cue to “slow down. Breathe in, breathe out. Take stock” and enjoy listening!

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Tara Van dances to her own beat. In the midst of the pandemic, she lost her long-term partner, but found self-love, allowing the seeds of her first album Rise (May 2023) to grow.

She blossomed in a powerful year of self-discovery, self-acceptance and freedom, which included an ADHD diagnosis. Tara wrote “Fucked-up-ness” (MAR 24) to bring awareness to mental health and empowerment to those who struggle with neurodivergence and disabilities. “Being human is being fucked up.
