‘Rosarot’ is an enigmatic piece of indie electropop. This gentle, club banger is working with an exciting blend of instruments and textures for a sound that effortlessly stands out and sticks in the head.

An indie pop duo based in the German city Hamburg, zukrassverliebt is comprised of father and son Michael and Manuel Mentz. Having decided to set up camp during the pandemic lockdown, the duo have been writing music since then in their home studio, which helped them grow a close musical partnership. ‘Rosarot’ have been born out of budding feelings of love, which the duo wanted to crystalize in a song, resulting in the pulsating, forward drive that we hear here.

Essentially, ‘Rosarot’ is an amazing example of European synth pop. With its exciting, creamy synth leads, electronically rich soundscape, and off-kilter harmonic choices, this song is left-field enough to be alien and quirky, but approachable and cool enough to have universal appeal. With vocals that start the song meandering and looking for a steady footing, the vocals eventually meet the song’s chords, the melodies lock in, and an intoxicating mood establishes.

‘Rosarot’ is a cool and unusual song that kept showing more details and growing on me more some 10 odd listens in. I’m happy so say that zukrassverliebt landed something quite special with their latest single.

In 2024, her recent song ‘Ghosts’ racked up over 100k plays on Instagram Reels and saw widespread press and radio coverage.

Jay explains, “I wanted to create a song that really captured Turkish summers for me, I spent my childhood there, so it never felt like I was ‘going on holiday’ when summer arrived. It was part of my life, the burning sands, the cicadas, the people. It was who I was.

I’ve never been super confident on guitar, especially electric but I saw this as a challenge and so I kept playing around with Guitar Rig 6 and my Squier Stratocaster until I had these very simple riffs layered up and suddenly, it sounded like what I was hearing in my head. It sounded like the Mediterranean.”
