اتهام بالعنصرية يتسبب في تغيير كلمات أغنية Grrrls

Interview with Dorian

Today’s artist doesn’t just release random singles, he releases an album almost every year since he started his musical journey. Dorian is an R&B/soul artist who has a remarkable presence on social media platforms and a strong, loyal fan base. The artist’s musical style is like Neyo, Michael Jackson, Monica, Usher, Chris Brown, and The Weeknd. He just released his latest album ‘The Arrival: Dream World pt2’ a 7-track album with lots of interesting elements and great music. let’s find out how he was able to achieve so much in such a short and challenging time.

Why is the album called “Dream world pt2”? is it an extension to your previous album? What do they have in common?

Dream World Part 1 is a project I created as a Sonic escape, and I kind of wanted to evolve that feeling and continue with that theme. They are similar in that both Parts 1 & 2 were very experimental sonically. I didn’t want to limit myself to a particular sound or genre.

Do you produce your music? or do you have a producer?

I work with an engineer and producers I find online—but I would LOVE to learn to produce one day!

Can you walk us through your creative process? Do you come up with the beats, melodies, and lyrics? Or do you have a team/band?

I love songwriting, so I am always coming up with melodies and hearing them in my head. I then take my personal life and experiences and tie them into the lyrics of my songs. I am proud to be able to say every lyric or sung melody is my own!

How do you get inspired? How do you come up with ideas and context for your music?

My personal life and journey are what inspire my songwriting and music overall. I have always loved music, but it wasn’t until I tied my gift of songwriting with the things in my heart that I really understood the kind of artist I wanted to be. I want to be authentic, unique, and passionate with my music—& what better way than to pour my own personal life into my music. I tell my testimonies with the hopes that it would touch someone and maybe even inspire them.

Can you tell us more about the award you just received as “Artist of the year 2022” by EnjoyTheMic?

That was such a wonderful surprise and awesome experience! En (Joy) The Mic is a DMV area-based community of artists, poets, and dreamers! Joy (the founder) , hosts open mic nights where local talents are able to create some awesome experiences. They just recently had their 1st Annual Awards Show. Being recognized and voted for “Artist of The Year” was such an honor and also a humbling experience. I’m just grateful for the support!

Do you have any live performances or a tour coming up?

I am going to be performing more very soon and you will be able to find out where to see me live on my social media accounts:

Reign Love by Dorian

Dorian is an artist who was able to mix pop and R&B/soul genres creating music that is catchy, subtle, and trendy. The artist started releasing music in 2019 with a few singles and an album released every year since 2020. The artist’s social presence and fan base are quite remarkable; he was able to reach over 14K listeners every month on Spotify and over 5K followers on Instagram. With no intention of stopping any time soon, the artist just won an award with EnjoyTheMic as an “Artist of the year 2022” award, such an outstanding achievement for an up-and-coming artist.

This year he released his latest album ‘The arrival: Dream World pt2” given that his album last year was called “Dream World”. ‘Reign Love’ was the first single he released from the album, and it was definitely a smart decision. The song has an overall seductive vibe with a very catchy and interesting beat with lots of sound effects and synths used to create layering and add more texture to the music. It starts with the main melodic motif of the song that is maintained throughout as a base. Dorian has a soft and skilled voice with interesting vocal control. Although there’s lots of repetition in the song yet there’s a slight change in themes in terms of melodic line, beat layering, sound effects changing and rap part added, to keep it interesting and take the boring element out of the equation. Towards the ending, a lot of overlapping in the musical lines, and the sounds become entwined that you need to focus to be able to listen to a specific line. Accompanied by the release of the single was a music video that’s simple yet well directed and of good quality.

It won’t be a waste of time if you listen to this song and watch its music video. I’m sure it’ll catch your attention that you’ll have to press replay.

Chronicles of a Calloused Heart, Part 2 by Daniel Sherman

0

Through his endless genres’ experimentation, the genre-switching singer, songwriter, storyteller, drummer, and rapper Daniel Sherman steps into a folk-inspired area with his new EP “Chronicles of a Calloused Heart, Part 2” released via Hendrickson Studios on the 10th of June, 2022. Sherman is sharing some real short stories reflecting on an experience he had, making this a heartfelt true EP and -as he described it- one of the most emotional pieces he has ever written.

Daniel Sherman starts the journey with “Come as I Am”, a multi-layered, well-written, and arranged opener. It has a beautiful smooth flow with great dynamics, starting with Sherman’s soothing vocals accompanied by piano and acoustic guitars then slowly, he starts building up and adding more instruments and layers making it sound bigger and more emotional. Daniel Sherman’s expressive vocals made every part of the song counts from the hard-hitting drum parts to the heavy emotional violins. “Terrified” comes next with an emotional vocal melody over deep acoustic guitar chords, it escalates musically keeping the mood with its slow pace with the piano and acoustic guitar in beautiful harmony all topped by Sherman’s heartfelt lyrics and vocal harmonies. The sound gets more open with lots of breath in “I Was Wrong”, I believe this is my favorite track off this EP, it mixes Sherman’s insanely emotional vocal melodies and his ability to steer the song’s flow with his vocals with some really heavy emotional music writing. It sounded like he mixed all the good parts and progressions of the previous two songs and perfected them in “I Was Wrong”, especially with the catchy vocals and the way the violins are mixed with guitars, percussions, and orchestrations, those parts with the “I wanna turn the page….” Part sent shivers down my spine. I totally felt that man!

The EP ends with “God” which sums up all of Sherman’s sound and direction with this EP while adding some hopeful mood into it with more colorful yet deep melodies closing it on a high note.

Chronicles of a Calloused Heart, Part 2” is an intense authentic journey of melodies by Daniel Sherman. It shows his top music writing abilities and his unique way of transferring his feelings through words and singing. I will be looking forward to part 1 that’ll be out in 2023 and to Sherman’s next musical adventure, cheers!

Memories of Spring by Jim Jagger

UK-based artist Jim Jagger has a career that spans over two decades as a solo artist. His recent single “Memories of Spring,” released on the 10th of June, is a Folk-styled uplifting and cozy song that seems to capture both melancholic and hopeful emotions. It is a stirring piece that leaves a lighthearted and cheerful preamble while gradually escalating towards the midsection, conveying a bittersweet and intense ardor that can be perceived through the singer’s soulful voice.

The song begins with a basic guitar riff, which is followed by passionate vocals that lend the song significant emotional depth. The fingerpicked guitar, mournful melodies, and wintery string arrangements are integral to the track’s theme and ambiance. The artist’s literary repertoire typically invokes nature, which is evocative of Carole King’s poetic writing approach. Despite the song’s initial melancholy tune, it has an uplifting tone. It concludes on a positive note, offering the audience hope. The lyrics address themes of overcoming adversity and persistence; they are the quintessence of traditional songwriting because they illustrate the power of simple words when paired with a basic arrangement and unadulterated honesty. The music almost feels like a companion who helps you navigate the ups and downs of everyday life.

Album: Agô by Dendê Macêdo

Dendê Macêdo is a multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, and vocalist who also composes and arranges music. His first steps into the musical world were taken when he was only 14 years old. Currently, he divides his time between the United States and Brazil. Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, is where Dendê was raised by a single mother in an Afro-Brazilian household. Dendê’s rich musical tradition was set out by Candomblé ceremonies, which included singing and dancing. As a young man, he credits his religion with keeping him on the straight and narrow and helping him achieve success in his career today. So much so that his latest album, “Agô,” is heavily influenced by the religion’s numerous deities.

The album’s title track is derived from the Yoruba word “ago,” which means “to ask permission.” Priests and practitioners of Candomblé in Brazil use this phrase as an expression of reverence for the Orixas, which are deities that are associated with the religion. This is the reasoning behind why Dende chose this song and this phrase to serve as the album’s title. It features hypnotic percussion that helps transport you to a different wavelength all together. Other tracks on the album feature similar spiritual themes, such as “Epê Babà,” which revolves around a deity that represents peace and purity, and “Yemanjà,” which is about the deity that represents motherhood and fertility. The politically heated “Black Lives Matter” is nonetheless one of the album’s most notable tunes. The track utilizes afrobeat as its primary rhythm to honor the victims of police violence in the United States and Brazil. It advocates justice and equality as its central topics, detailing how this movement has affected black communities in both nations.

Often, excellent work needs a lot of dedication, perseverance, and time, and as you listen to the album, you can hear how much attention, passion, and effort went into crafting each song. The album fuses elements of Afro-Brazilian culture with upbeat songs and an eclectic palette of sounds to form invigorating universal themes and grooves that are as mesmerizing as they are energetic. As his joyous melodies and contemplative voices are accented by euphoric incantations, Dendê transports the listener further into the transcendent realms of the subconscious. It is accurate to state that Dendê’s music has a dreamlike quality. This is a potent hymn to the Orixas as a result of the interplay between the myriad of distinct components.

How To Love Yourself and Not Destroy Everything by Joyeur

“How to Love Yourself and Not Destroy Everything” is singer-songwriter Joelle Corey’s “Joyeur” release, consisting of 10 tracks from a variety of gender-shifting Alternative Pop tracks that emphasize the powerful message of the album’s title.

With the 10 tracks, Joyeur shows how well she can traverse different depths of Alternative Pop and Electronic Pop, with an amazing sound and different textures of songs, adding flavor from track to track.

One of the most discussed topics in art is learning to live in society and the way we treat ourselves. If we know how to love and accept ourselves as we are, without living constrained by the pressures of everyday life. Joyeur’s album depicted these topics in an honest and true way to the listeners.

“How to Love Yourself and Not Destroy Everything” continues the winding paths of learning self-love and the pain and joy that come with doing so. Mastering self-love isn’t easy, so Joyeur does a good job of conveying that to her listeners with her soft voice through a variety of songs, such as “Underbelly” and “Fish.”

Inside the album, There’s Something Fresh, as different genres flow in and out of a variety of tracks. “Fish” adds ’90s elements to R&B, and in “Don’t Wanna T,” you find Joyeur indulging in Hip-Hop with lyrics It expresses freedom, not wanting to argue about anything and just having fun.

The lead single from the album, “Destroyer,” is guaranteed to grab the attention of new listeners with upbeat, calm but sad melodic rhythms, paired with lyrics that speak of the pain of knowing your mistakes and weaknesses that are then exposed, and the insecurity when you’re in a relationship and end up ruining everything because of them.

The album moves into the second most electronic part with “Swell,” “Ultraviolet Techno,” “Tongue Tied,” and “Primitive Warrior”. Close in style with “window shopping.” The latter is one of the most exciting of all and speaks of opening up to the world.

This album celebrates life and its constant ups and downs, as each clip gets a chance to shine in its own way and light, just like life itself. The beauty of all our imperfections can be seen in the musical journey that Joyeur takes us on, with how to love yourself and not ruin everything.
