Maybe It’s The Moon by Soa

A space atmosphere deprives you of oxygen and leaves you surrendering to it, to breathe the music presented by Canadian singer, Sophia Simmons-Soa, in her three-track album, “Maybe It’s The Moon.”

A mix of Electronic Pop and some Trap beats takes you on a journey beyond the confines of land on a ship driven by Soa with its soft, earthy sound, drums, and electronic sounds.

Love is what Soa chose to open her album with. The song “ma Luv” appears as a personal experience that she went through. The music in this song pulls you from the state of stillness to swim inside and moves between poetic and musical sentences with the help of sound to live in an incomprehensible relationship with it.

“Give me time” that’s all Soa wants to make you jump into the ocean and sing “cold water.” On the beat of the drums and the most obvious trap rhythm in this track, imagine yourself in front of the beach and jumping into an ocean full of cold feelings, and when you exit from it, you find the sun’s rays contain you with its warmth, and then you admit that this singing experience is very realistic.

“I Can’t Live With…” is a sincere confession to a very balanced rhythm in every respect on the last song from the album, “Maybe It’s The Moon.” Psychologically, it is an admission that women are temperamentally influenced by the moon and its shapes, and musically, it is a strong reflection of the moon as it changes for us, but it does. In the end, the moon, like women, changes in character, but in the end, they are women. In poetics, the words were very appropriate and capable of transforming feelings into lyrical sentences full of creativity.

“Maybe It’s The Moon” will take you to a world full of romantic and sensory realism experiences accompanied by wonderful rhythms and an artistically mature sound. So don’t be afraid and listen.

Better Luck Next Time by Maya Yenn

An audio entry that extends for a few seconds, as if saying “once upon a time” was hired by English artist Maya Yenn, as an opening introduction to tell us in her latest publication, “Better Luck Next Time,” a disastrous story that she warns us about before the fall.

On the plane that symbolizes life and that goes out with all her might, Yenn tries to tell us that good luck next time, because she tried, worked hard, and worked, but fate has another word. Psychological destruction and all this will not matter when the world around us collapses and the plane crashes into the ocean.

Terrifying scenes that grab our hearts and take our breath away. This is what Yenn managed to convey to us through her song, as she was able to put poison in honey. Inspiring, detailed images inspired by many stories, whose owners may re-think to arrange their priorities and prevent themselves from disaster.

The rhythm of “Better Luck Next Time” is strong and balanced, and inspired by the nature of the action. The thumping, bass drumbeat you hear when you hear it feels like the heartbeat of the people on board the plane that is about to fall, making the whole track tinged with fear and anxiety.

Perhaps this horror is not felt in the voice of Maya Yenn, who looks at the burning engines, swallowing the taste of kerosene and hydrogen in her throat, because she tells it all with a sense of humor emphasized by pop music that is as full as it is usually lively and fun.

Try listening to “Better Luck Next Time,” which just came out, because it will make you rethink many things.

The Aftermath Of 2016 by Trish Discord

0

“The Aftermath of 2016” is the first full-length feature of Indie rock artist Trish Discord, who gained popularity on YouTube and SoundCloud with her rock versions and covers of other artists from a multitude of genres, from Halsey to Mitski to The Cranberries. Trish Discord has a very distinctive voice and a dark timbre that fits indie rock and dark electronica perfectly, and this album is full of these genres among many other influences. Let’s have a look at what this album has in store for us.

The first track, “23,” reminds me of Fallen-era Evanescence in almost every aspect. Its beautiful electronic intro followed by the uptempo beat and distorted guitar is really charming and super catchy. A synth sample adds a sort of dissonance effect over the main guitar melodies and fits the eeriness of the track perfectly.

The second track, “Desire,” begins with a synth intro that makes you think it will be a dark-wave/dark-electronica track, but then the guitar enters with a bang and it’s more prominent than I thought it would be. This track reeks of 90s Angst and Radiohead influence that’s clear as day. I love the range and grit in Trish’s voice so far. A short, powerful guitar solo and a small vocal interlude preceded a heavy outro that makes you want to get up and headbang. This lady has a very powerful and moving songwriting approach that makes you wonder why she isn’t selling out venues and doing huge concerts yet.

The third track, “Strife,” has soaring vocals followed by a synth-heavy beat and some clean guitars. An effect is used over the catchy chorus vocals, which made the song stick in my head from the first listen.

The fourth track, “I Can’t-Wait to Forget,” has more natural sounding and pump-y drums that feel very energetic with Trish’s high notes and powerful chest voice. I wish I get the chance to hear this one in concert because I’m sure its fast pace and challenging vocals will give me tons of energy and make me headbang a lot.

The fifth track, “Take Me Away,” feels more like your typical alternative rock song with a piano and talkbox that reminds you of Bon Jovi, but, of course, Trish’s signature dark atmosphere makes her songs sound even more awesome and more in line with her lyrics. The guitar that plays in the chorus is so pleasant to listen to and you will feel like one listening to this track isn’t enough at all.

The sixth track, “Split,” begins with stompy drums and more of the dark, weeping vocals that made me wonder how perfect it would be if Trish and Amy Lee collaborated. Around the 2:30 mark, there is a tempo change that’s one of the best I’ve ever heard in a while. It confirms how Trish is a master at emotional delivery with any tempo or key the song is at. Her years of experience shine through on the album.

The seventh track, “Red Sun,” has more of the dark (and dare I say goth-sounding) synths that will leave you craving for more dark tunes from this multi-talented singer-songwriter that seems to have no boundaries.

The eighth track, “In Another Life,” feels like it was taken from the soundtrack of a dystopian movie. Every pre-chorus has a very eerie build-up followed by the melancholic and haunting chorus where Trish feels like she’s pouring her heart out and tearing mine to pieces. She wasn’t lying when she promised this album would be personal and heavy.

The ninth track, “Crashing,” is so far the most upbeat and anthemic offering here. The subject of the lyrics is still dark and personal, of course, like the rest of the album, but the drums and synth are a little brighter than the previous tracks. At the three-minute mark, a creepy vocal line begins, and it’s then followed by the synth leading into silence, in what might be the album’s most creepy moment so far.

The tenth and final track, “This is The End,” begins with a very pissed-off demeanor, and the vocals and following it are the most harshly distorted guitars we can hear on the album. To say that this track has vocal acrobatics would be an understatement, as Trish’s wailing leads to the fast-paced chorus and verses and repeats multiple times. We hear one last repetition of that wail and then the album ends and I am left in shock that ten tracks have already passed.

To sum it up, this is a record that’s crushing in terms of both instruments and lyrics. Tha vocal mastery and power speak for themselves and will leave you confused because they are influenced by many people but still distinctive enough to consolidate Trish as the enchanting siren she truly is. I hope to hear more records from her in the future and probably some collaborations too, as this powerful rocker lady delivers all she promises and then some more.

In My Own World by VISION

VISION is an artist who glows up in Adelaide, Australia. She released a full album called “In My Own World,” which was produced and issued on the 6th of May, 2022. Showing off her great talent by telling us her story through music and her tempting lovely beats. I like how she blurts out her story in the form of those simple titles. She has rapped flawlessly throughout her album.

She’s been bombing us with awesome tracks since 2020, with different aesthetics of music she uses like “Loyalty” and “Catching Feelings.” However, she seems to always create great tracks with her own lyrics and fights through to rap about how society does us wrong.

Compared to those singles and the currently released album “In My Own World,” it has a different and unique vibe to it and understands more of the struggles she went through during her life and shines out with a great song about how strong she changed and stands her ground in the track “Exotic,” showing off her greatness and her ability to come out glamorous.

The track that stood out the most for me is “Lost,” as 2020 was a really hard year for a lot of people during that time and a lot of losses. She depicted the agony and effort of healing in her lyrics; “Couldn’t sleep right, cried all night, tried to get them back, this is payback. I move for them now, to make them proud. They can not speak up, so I’m the speaker. You cannot keep up, cuz I’m the keeper, so what I reap up, yeah, I am the reaper. Look for the truth, cuz I am a seeker, part of the youth, but, I am a creeper.” I felt the people she lost were so close to her and, as she mentioned in her EPK, it was dedicated to two of her friends (Ronald Mafara and Bradley Streeter), -God may bless their souls.-

I would highly recommend listening to this slamming album, “In My Own Head.” The artist opens up her heart and feelings and gets you deep into listening to her writing skills in every track she worked on with her mind and soul, and that inspired her to continue producing more heartfelt songs.

Keyless by Tony Loud Woodz

Philadelphia is ringing with some awesome Rap with a new artist in the making, “Tony Loud Woodz.” He released his single “Keyless,” which is a part of the album, “What The Hell Is This.” It was dropped off on the 4th of February 2022, with a slamming beat that is getting his album up into places and wowing his audience.

Tony is a multi-talented fellow as he has produced and mastered his music, and he also works as a photographer, capturing amazing shots he takes during his sessions (great eye there!) Also, he helps to record other artists’ music in his studio, with the amazing talents Tony innovates and molds into a big hit from his recent album, “WTHIT.”

Tony has a bombing talent with his voice and the vibes he gives as he’s a mix of different famous artists. The track “Keyless” gave me a Kanye electro voice while rapping, quoting, “You keep tryna fight. I keep tryna respond. Every time we fight, I will be tryna rewind. You keep telling lies like you’ll be fine.” Listening to his other tracks is simply banging with dope beats, that are trippy like his releases for “Paradise,” “Swerving,” “Trap” and “Large Amounts,” which have an interesting yet different modern vibe to them using the lyrical that he scripted.

He mentioned in his EPK that the song is about a beautiful, luxurious car as he wanted to make a car commercial. I am overall impressed with the making of this song “Keyless.” A great rapper can sound comfortable over a variety of sounds and production styles, and that comfort points to mastery of many necessary skills for an energetic song that is very striking.

Steppin Free by Khaki Fever

Today I’ll be reviewing Khaki Fever’s third release, “Steppin free.” Khaki Fever is a retro-pop duo hailing from London, Th United Kingdom. At the first listen to the song, I was amazed at how cheerful and uplifting it is! I felt like my soul instantly got better. The song talks about the power of now and how you should live in the present, and honestly, just listening to the song makes me want to forget all my troubles and just enjoy this sweet, groovy tune.

The track is groovy and almost ethereal, with just 3 minutes and 21 seconds of sheer optimism! The track garnered almost 6,000 streams on Spotify, and rightfully so. Sam’s soothing vocals, in addition to Gio’s technical mastery, make this the go-to song for this summer!

All in all, this track is one of my favorites and I’ll definitely add it to my playlist of songs to listen to at the beach.

Ghosts by Matthew Scott Ragnald

0

They say Massive Attack have been on the phone with Bonobo discussing this music that sounds like the perfect mix between them, and they’re both fine with it, as they should be because it’s a great song.

“Ghosts” is a single from Matthew Scott Ragnald’s latest EP, released in 2022. A brooding, slow-tempo, dark, and alluring trip of screamy synths and boomy sub-bass. Matthew had massive success at the start of the millennium with his band Nelo and is currently rediscovering his musical identity with this offering.

The song is filled with eerie fluttering samples vocals that do sound like floating specters, and a chord progression that’s easy to anticipate. The vocal melodies, which sit low in the register, are satisfying and long, showing effort and intention in composition. A number of synth solos also feature, sounding stabby and harsh at some points, creamy and expansive at others. A great mix of drums also helps propel the general feel of this song to a very elegantly produced one with great value and attention to detail.

Carrying your influences with pride will always be a mark of a brave and passionate artist, not willing to shy away from where his heart truly lies. Now, Matthew never stated any influences, so I’m assuming here based on the resemblance. But all in all, a solid, enjoyable tune that’s ready to drive you down the empty city streets.

Wounded Healer by King Kismet

0

A lot of studio magic goes into creating music. You have the arranging, the production, the mixing, the mastering, and a few other complicated words. Now dubstep… That’s a different story.

King Kismet is from Arizona, USA. On his latest single, ‘Wounded Healer,’ you’ll find him handling the issues of remaining connected with the here and now, reminding us that some things will remain out of our control, and not worth worrying about. He does that to two distinct backdrops.

The first is a sweet and flowing major scale section with boomy bass and sugary clean guitars, and a focused vocal melody delivered beautifully with minimal studio magic involved. The other, though, is where all the magic occurs. A crazed, fragmented chorus is preceded by an intense beat drop, featuring processed vocals and harsh bass stabs. A clear amount of effort went into creating such a complex sound, and it shows.

While this song is short and sweet, it also isn’t intricate enough to leave a lasting mark. The simplistic composition works very well to not overcrowd the song or be a burden on the production process. These are all practical decisions to create a typical, summery Hip-Hop tune that will be easy to forget and easier still to enjoy.

Deep As A River by Isaac Neilson

0

To write good Folk music, you must possess a very particular set of skills. An ear for the mystique in the progressions and melodies. An ability to paint with sounds and project colors with motifs and harmonies. You have to also have the talent to create flowing musical landscapes that tell clean stories and offer unique viewpoints on situations. Folk is very difficult to pull off, it’s a musical genre that’s basically associated with musical pieces that have been around for hundreds of years, known as folk songs.

Today’s offering comes from Buxton, UK. A single from a fresh songwriter by the name of Isaac Neilson, that’s impressive, enjoyable and ticks all the boxes mentioned above. Utilizing a gorgeous combo of strummed acoustic guitar, howling synths, and a warm Rhodes to paint a picture of a river rushing between its banks. A particular painting that’s sure to differ between each listener and the other, but also sure to leave an impression. The progressions use chords that sound triumphant and melodies that are sung with a swagger that shifts smoothly between all the sections of the song, achieving a feel of progress as if traveling through the chapters of a book.

The second third of the song is heavy, using distorted guitars and vocals as well as a beat that focuses on the tom-toms to achieve an almost tribalistic sound, before exploding for a very short time with distorted guitar screams that fade out in an instant, creating a sense of pleasant confusion and demand for immediate attention.

All in all, Deep As A River is a grade A piece of songwriting, checking all the boxes that make a good folk rock song. Isaac proves himself as someone who easily possesses all the sensibilities of an elegant songwriter, and I, personally, will be anticipating more of his works where he’ll hopefully continue to paint more and more of those ambitious sonic landscapes.

Rock This Way by Jennifer Alvarado

Mixing different genres of music and combining them into one song has become a trendy approach among artists but to be fair not all of them know how to pull it off. Each genre of music is distinguished by specific elements and vibe that you need to find common grounds and elements that complement each other. Jennifer Alvarado was able to combine three different genres in one and create a harmonious and interesting sound. We were lucky enough to get a glimpse of her latest single “Rock This Way” coming out on June 17th. The song has the groove of the Country genre combined with the rock electric guitar rigidness and character while keeping the pop elements of trendiness, hip, and fun.

Alvarado is a singer and songwriter based in Vale, North Carolina who was influenced by a variety of different music genres growing up, the country music because of her place of birth along with a long list of classic rock songs that inspired her over the years. The artist is mostly recognized for her exceptional talent as a songwriter, she was named “one to watch” by the Nashville songwriters association in Spring 2021. Her earlier singles “IDWYB” and “Filthy Water” released in 2021 were among the top 10 finalists for “Best pop Song” and “Best Modern Country Song” for the Spring and Summer 2021 World Songwriting Awards. Among lots of other nominations and awards, the latest nomination was for 6 international singer-songwriter association awards including “Female Vocalist of The Year” and “Female Songwriter of The Year”.

Listening to her songs, musical arrangements, and choice of orchestration and harmony you will understand why she has a huge fan base of over 44K followers on Instagram only and why she has numerous nominations and awards.
