The Runner by NEVERSPEAK

0

The Tokyo based artist Leonard Burton, better known as NEVERSPEAK just released a new single titled “The Runner”…a masterpiece of electro and cyberpunk that is also an extremely storytelling experience…this one has the best of everything.

NEVERSPEAK is originally British, but he’s living in Tokyo, creating electronic music with darker vibes. He says that his inspiration comes from the world around him, from the relentless concrete and the humanity that he lived in the middle of.

There’s also a philosophy behind “The Runner”’s concept, NEVERSPEAK explains “The concept of this track is karma catching up with someone”…and he encapsulates this philosophy, this story with heavy electronic, industrial and cyberpunk elements so perfectly…that you could really imagine a full fledged music video in your head.

The elements that make up “The Runner” are all cinematic in nature, but delivered in an electronic way…

“The Runner” is dark…

It’s cinematic…

It’s melodic…

It’s musical storytelling at its best…

The melodies we experience in this track range from very melodic vocal phrases, which was a first time experience for NEVERSPEAK to work directly for his music with a vocalist…and will not be the last, actually, this song is the first in a series of 3 songs he aims to release…next, hell be working with American rapper JedLi.

…some of the other melodies are more electronic and percussive in nature, nevertheless, almost all sections of “The Runner” have a very strong melodic element that will have you either humming or singing with.

If you’re a fan of both electronic and cinematic storytelling…you’ll fall in love instantly with NEVERSPEAK’s “The Runner”…it’s a highly recommended listening experience.

We literally cannot wait to hear the upcoming releases…”The Runner” had us hungry for more, we’ll keep on running till we get the next one.

We wish all the best to NEVERSPEAK, he’s creating absolute monstrous electro songs that have a very solid storytelling element to it…we salute you.

Cheers!

Insouciance by SAMBOX

0

Samuel Pinaeu, known by his stage name SAMBOX, is a French producer, pianist, and composer who has teamed up with virtuoso cellist Anita Barbereau on his latest composition to bring up a lush, serene duet, rich with melodic ambiance, melancholic warmth, and bustling nostalgia.

Titled ‘Insouciance’, SAMBOX’s latest release is a two-part single, divided between Reminiscence and Evidence. Both pieces are a simplistic duo between his piano and Barbereau’s bone-chilling cello wails. Pineau’s piano is consistently warm but desolate. His rhythmically conventional melodic performance, together with the full, round-sounding piano, ornamented by tasteful reverb, make for a piano performance that sticks out and demands the listener’s attention, which is good as the part is full of intricate details that would easily go missing otherwise. Complementing SAMBOX’s piano playing is the cello part played by Barbereau. Her touch is soft, and her notes gracefully slide into one another throughout the composition, creating little to no distraction, but adding a stunning amount of depth and character to the sound of Pireau’s compositions.

Written in contrast to the modern, ever-changing world, and its hectic rhythms, the duo wanted ‘Insouciance’ to be captivating and serene, an invitation to cherish nostalgia and to re-explore our childhood memories when life was much simpler. Wonderfully executed. With the performances just as beautiful as the production, ‘Insouciance’ easily captivates.

Goesting by Ruud Voesten

0

Ahead of his debut album release later in September, Ruud Voesten’s second single released, ‘Goesting’, is a tantalizing piece of jazz with arresting textures and pervasive melancholy.

Rotterdam-based composer and bandleader Ruud Voesten has a sound that’s as haunting as it is cinematic. ‘Goesting’ is a composition that was conceived in the darkness of the pandemic, when Voesten took the time off to take a deep dive into Dante’s Inferno, part one of his Divine Comedy, allowing him to review his connections to the seven capital sins, the core element of Inferno. Voesten’s upcoming studio album is heavily influenced and inspired by this historic reading. ‘Goesting’ in particular is inspired by the ring of Lust, one of the rings of hell through which Dante descends in his writing.

‘Goesting’ is a piece of pure noir jazz at its core, with its beating heart moving from a sorrowful cello to a pair of charismatic saxophones, to a lively but eerie grand piano, and back to the sorrowful cello again. The warm mix leaves nothing to be desired, all elements are perfectly sitting in place, demanding immediate attention. The composition is tragic, fitting for one of the most intense reads in human civilization. With a truly unforgettable cello melody in the beginning that morphs into a double bass-led interlude played by Tijs Klaassen into a grand piano-led section that moves between hope, desolation, and sorrow, as Voesten’s drums break apart in the background. The piano is performed by Koen Schalkwijk, and it is a dynamic performance, nuanced and varied enough to be a sufficient vessel for all the different textures it aims to deliver during its time at the forefront of the mix. The horn-based section features a stunning duet between Mo van der Does’s alto saxophone and Wietse Voermans’s tenor one. One of the piece’s most aurally pleasing parts.

‘Goesten’ is a masterfully arranged composition. The sounds and atmospheres are truly sublime. Endlessly intricate. The invasive sadness that seeps through the piece’s different sections makes it a bit difficult to sit through, but the sheer beauty of the recording, the arrangement, and the performances, whether improvised or written, all make this piece an outstanding piece of modern, instrumental jazz.

Concrete Labyrinth by GrayBeat

0

Multi-lingual and wonky, GrayBeat’s latest single is a detrimental affair that will either get you completely bought, or absolutely not, within its first 15 seconds or so. How do we feel about it? Read ahead to find out.

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, GrayBeat is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose sound on his latest single, titled ‘Concrete Labyrinth’ is processed and dub-inspired. Jagged and rhythmically choppy, the song is filled with detrimental rhythmic chops that make it sound more complicated than it actually is, before settling down on a semi-solid and easy-to-follow groove that the song ends on. During its time, the song’s drums are consistently punchy and driving, and GrayBeat’s voice is processed and sits perfectly on the line that separates organic from robotic. The effect is a little unsettling.

Moreover, the oozy sound effects manage to add a layer of density to the mix that makes it even more memorable. A gripe we have would probably be how thin the pads sound, almost imperceptible, making the mix feel rather dry, which is for sure an understandable artistic choice. And in any way, the song’s eclectic mix of English, Spanish, and Portuguese makes the cut interesting enough that we ended up not really noticing the lacking airiness of the mix that much.

‘Concrete Labyrinth’ is a solid new cut from an exciting artist and producer who’s bringing a very fresh color with his music. Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the song is a little polarizing, there’s also no denying that it is rich and inventive enough to win us over.

Stronger by Junoid

0

Junoid’s debut single promises quality-produced music and vibrant 80s vibes with healthy modern twists, and in honesty ‘Stronger’ delivers very well on all those fronts.

New York-based, Junoid has a history that goes back 20 years and roots that have sprouted in the Netherlands. A band fascinated with the lush and colorful 80s, with all of its electrifying electro-pop, gated reverbs, and stabby synth leads. The band’s debut single is titled ‘Stronger’, and it is all of this… and more.

‘Stronger’ is more than just a tepid recollection of the 80s, forty-something years later, it is instead a faithful reimagining of what made that era pop in our memories, draped in layers or pristine, modern production that sounds endlessly crisp and fresh, and a strong, compelling piece of songwriting underneath. The song’s arrangement is bustling with track upon track of synthesizers, playing everything from swooshing pads, to piercing leads. This symphony is then treated to the highest standards with a shimmering clean production job that results in a song that is very tight sounding and enjoyable.

Junoid delivered on all their promises with their first single. A band with decades of experience, there is no surprise that their execution is as delightful as ‘Sronger’ is. Waiting for a lot more from Junoid.

Classified Information by 8 Moons Collide

0

8 Moons Collide debut single is a colorful and varied piece of electrified rock that jumps from classic riffs to electric havoc with fluidity and grace that is the hallmark of a capable vision behind its inception.

Based in the Irish town of Miltown Malbay, 8 Moons Collide is a newly formed musical project that aims to provide rich and immersive musical landscapes based on fusions of rock and electronica for a brand-new sound. On their first release, a single titled ‘Classified Information’, 8 Moons Collide mixes classical rock riffs with hip hop, on the basis of intriguing lyrics and memorable vocal deliveries, to create an output that’s gonna be difficult to forget.

‘Classified Information’ is the first of a long list of releases that 8 Moons Collide has planned. The song is multi-phased, shifting its focus from more instrumental arrangements to synth-based ones within the span of just a few beats. The impassioned and colorful deliveries from 8 Moons Collide’s vocals remain engaging throughout the song, regardless of the song’s style at the moment. 8 Moons Collide pulls this off smoothly and without feeling forced for one moment. One more indication of a capable musician.

‘Confidential Information’ is promised to be the first in a long list of releases from this up-and-coming artist, and if this same quality and vision are shared with those songs, then we are already fully on board.

EP: Luminescent by GOOW

0

GOOW’s sophomore release does well to prove him as a capable producer of immersive electronica, with the two cuts on ‘Luminescent’ being inviting pieces of music that blur the lines between electronica and trip-hop with their use of nature-inspired sounds and snappy electronic instrumentation.

A one-man band hailing from Odintsovo, Russia, GOOW is Egor Efimuk, a songwriter and producer who operates from his home studio, influenced by downtempo and trip-hop greats such as Bonobo and Tycho. GOOW’s second release is a two-part EP. ‘Luminescent’ is the title, and the short EP is composed of ‘Submerged’ and ’Sunrise and Monsters’. Both cuts are melodic and dynamic, the first piece is inspired by an underwater landscape, and the second one by a beautiful sunrise populated by monstrous figures, hence the names… and the music, as we will now discuss.

‘Submerged’ starts with an ethereal, filtered pad sound that feels as thick and as moving as waves in the depths of the sea. The slow tempo, throbbing synth melodies, and melancholic chords create a sense of desolation. The feeling is also amplified by the contrast between the piece’s stirring melodies, played on thin-sounding synths, and the litany of sampled and processed sound effects floating around it, seemingly haphazard and disruptive, creating a chaotic vibe that GOOW masterfully keeps firmly in control. The upright bass part is a sensational addition to the arrangement.

As I was beginning to describe ‘Sunrise and Monsters’, I was ready to name it -easily- the lesser of the two pieces on ‘Luminescent’, but with repeated listens it became clear to me that it also does a terrific job of creating an environment using its sonic choices, whether on the instrumentation fronts, or the production one. Starting with a snappy, acoustic melody part that puts to mind ‘Black Sands’ era Bonobo, the piece then progresses to incorporate some ‘monstrous’ synth leads that rip through the mix. With its faster beat and tighter snare, this cut feels endlessly more hasty, fitting for a monster chase.

‘Luminescent’ is a beautiful release that’s at once effortless, and gorgeously detailed. Intricate and inspired, the pieces on this little EP are enjoyable and beautiful for the ears, regardless of whether you get the sonic environment GOOW is trying to build. This an easy recommendation for lovers of sophisticated and nuanced electronica.

M.D.L. by trouble bunny

0

Trouble Bunny’s debut release strikes almost every box that makes a debut stick out among others. Those boxes are a clear musical vision, and a good execution to it, lyrics that carry a meaning, and an enjoyable arrangement with decent production that make the package crispy and delicious.

Solo artist trouble bunny hails from Richmond, Virginia. Having previously been a member of bands Captain Scrunchie and Pressed Orchid, trouble bunny is no newcomer to the realms of bedroom-level lo-fi and indie music, and it is a sound she is wholly embracing on M.D.L.

From the single’s decidedly minimal arrangement to the choice of a synth voice, trouble bunny’s vision to make an exceptionally simple and sparse song is in full effect throughout the song. M.D.L, short for “might delete later”, is a phrase often used on social media when somebody posts a pic they’re unsure about, saying that they might later delete that picture. The phrase has turned into a plea for validation of sorts, as if the poster implores the viewers to tell them how much they like the picture for them to keep it online, seeking their validation over how they look, and it gets used disproportionately females in what is known as ‘thirst traps’. The song is an exploration of the mindset behind a thirst trap, written from the perspective of a beautiful girl who is lacking in confidence. The song’s lyrics are simple, direct, and honest. Not high-brow poetry, but easy-to-follow commentary from the girl’s perspective, which adds a layer of accessibility to the song.

The song’s progression is wistful, reflecting the protagonist’s mindset, and the glassy, melancholic synth that delivers it, next to the boomy synth bass, is beautifully melodic. There is a compelling contrast between the melodic synth, the trap percussion, and the rhythmically chopped and delivered vocals which creates an immersive confusion between melody and rhythm. M.D.L. is more complicated than what first appears.

M.D.L. is an intriguing and inviting debut from an indie music expert who’s beginning with a discussion of a serious, under-explored topic. The song is a well-crafted endeavor that will be exceptionally easy to get into. Hopefully lyrically, as well as musically.

Rotation by lukx

0

Lukx, the Belgium-based hip-hop/rap artist just released a new single “Rotation”…he made this song with his dad and it is a very smooth and groovy tune with great vocal flows filling the perfectly balanced 3 minutes runtime…it must have been an incredible experience for the father and son as it is for the audience.

The song has an extremely high-quality polished production, all the elements that went into this song are of the highest tier…

In this song, Lukx talks about self-control and self-improvement on a groovy west coast instrumental…Lukx also says that this song would be a perfect start to a new day.

Vocals and backing vocals are superb, with smooth flows and great vocal performance…

The music production on this one is brilliant…the smooth-sounding brass section is iconic, the muted guitar licks are absolutely moody and the beat section is moving and grooving.

“Rotation” is the result of the father and son…with a mixed cultural background, the duo has Belgian and Swedish roots, they live in Belgium and they create music from their home studio there.

“Rotation’s” lyrics are a smoothly flowing lyrical waterfall along with a musical river created from the mixing of many elements, including RnB, hip-hop, and rap…with maybe some hints of electronic stuff thrown in there…

Lukx and his dad created a delightful ride with their latest single “Rotation”…for me, it’s a hit, they don’t know it yet…but I can see this song playing in clubs and getting featured in movies, easily.

Lukx, Dad, thank you for the awesome music. We can’t wait to hear what you come up with next…we wish you all the best in life.

Cheers!
