More heat from the deep African south, Proklaim’s latest release ‘POPPIN’ is an extremely polished piece of hip hop. Imaginative, creative, and endlessly grabbing, Proklaim’s flow, delivery, and production value are in a constant upward spiral.
Based in the Namibian capital Windhoek, Proklaim is a rapper whose exquisite sound is usually built of afro-centered rhythms, infused with Latin flairs, supporting the man’s terrific rapping, with usually arresting flows, witty, smart lines, and mind-twisting subdivisions. ‘POPPIN’ is just as hot as ‘CIVIL’, which we recently covered, but in a particular way, the sound is more developed and polished in ‘POPPIN’. So not only is Proklaim very active and generous with releases, but he is also improving wherever there is space for improvement.
‘POPPIN’ comes loaded with catchy double -or triple-tracked hooks, some truly dark sub-bass, hectic, syncopated beats, and a sense of hurry and impending danger that makes the whole track incredibly adrenaline-pumping. Mixed to perfection, the song’s tribal percussions are blended gorgeously with the synths and slick basslines in a perfect marriage that’s unlike anything I’ve heard before.
Proklaim is busy dropping some truly world-class rap. A Namibian hidden gem whose flows, beats, delivery, and words are surely worthy of a truckload of attention, Proklaim keeps on giving, and we have a sneaking suspicion that he won’t be done anytime soon.
