Nire Bird releases the aggressive romance of ‘Obsessor Doll’

0

After returning with the first teaser for her latest album late last year, Nire Bird has continued to open up the world of the new project, leaving fans and tastemakers in anticipation of what’s to come. Though a lifelong piano and viola player, Nire Bird found her voice only recently, learning to sing through lullabies and then steadily moving towards more experimental works.

Nire Bird continues to embrace this new era of aggressive production and sultry romance with her new track ‘Obsessor Doll’. Opening with hard bass hits and a blend of vocals perfectly processed to feel both robotic and deeply human, the track expands into pulses of electronic melody before diving into cowbell hits and deep synth swells. This dance between heavy moments and ethereal continues throughout the track, Nire’s vocals darting between extended, soft performances and stabby, gritty moments. As these two avenues begin to collide, the track garners more and more tension towards it. The gut-punching kicks blend with the push and pull of the bass, the airy chops coming to terms with gorgeous twinkling chords. A metaphorical showcase of love and lust’s constant competition, it’s an interesting next step towards Nire’s forthcoming album.

Nire adds, “Obsessor Doll in particular started as an idea about a girl obsessed with a guy. But it felt wrong in so many ways like I didn’t want to write this message. Then my best friend started trolling me on social media and WhatsApp about my whole world. She said, ‘what’s wrong with you, I’m unfollowing you, I never see your stuff but this is too far, are you ok, what are doing, you think you’re making art, you’re not making art, this is pornography.’ It went on and on and I realised it had been for years. Nothing about what I was doing was pornographic.

She was so wild in her shaming, female jealousy and attempted control that it made me laugh, cry and become deeply motivated in retaliation. I looked in the mirror and felt my obsession. So the true song revealed itself as a girl singing in the mirror becoming her alter ego and embracing her obsession. An obsession  to produce and create while not being hurt by outside noise and criticism even when it’s someone you think is a best friend. In my reflections I realised how deeply she’d been holding me back, trying to keep me in her box because she just didn’t feel sexy anymore as a mother.”

Ellen Woloshin shares the ballads of ‘Pop Torch’

0

Growing up studying piano and performing in choirs, Ellen Woloshin moved away from a career in classical music, instead falling into the family business of jingle writing, working with multiple brands and building a profession. Her career then moved toward performing and songwriting, emerging as one half of the duo Woloshin & Griffin. Alongside this and a developing solo career, Ellen has written for artists like Dionne Warwick, LaToya Jackson, and Ben Vereen, as well as appearing on radio throughout the UK, and performing across the US.

Ellen Woloshin‘s third album is ‘Pop Torch’, providing fans with another graceful evening of jazz standards, original music and fabulous arrangements. Reimagining tracks made famous by the likes of Bing Crosby, and Fred Astaire and taking a jazz rendition of music from Keith Whitley and America. This approach to creating natural-feeling pop ballads with a heavy dose of nostalgia is a testament to Ellen’s songwriting ability, able to morph these sounds into totally different contexts that feel as though they are a match made in heaven. Alongside a band comprised of adaptive acoustic guitar, rich piano and effortless grooves of a double bass, Ellen makes her presence known within each arrangement, delivering spellbinding vocals whether it’s a heartfelt, slow outpour or a fast-paced bounce.

Ellen explains the album further, adding, ”If you take a bunch of disparate beads and string them together to make a necklace, what would the finished product look like? That’s the concept behind this album. I took songs from various genres and decades, some of my own, some by others, with the hope that in the end, that necklace would come together as a unique statement of its own. I hope you enjoy the result!”

Evan Isaac unveils the ethereal ‘Watch it in the Wind’

Emerging from New York City as a solo artist after spending years receiving acclaim as part of bands Crossing Boundaries and GoodKids, Evan Isaac has made music a core of his self-expression, processing his own emotions through a musical portrayal. Across his career, he’s supported Mac Miller, won the Tri-C High School Rock Off in Cleveland and worked with Grammy-award-winning producer J.J. Blair. Finding himself as a quiet inspiration to fans and peers as he grows and develops in his artistry, Evan Isaac breaks boundaries.

Evan Isaac‘s misty pop sparkle is put on full showcase in the new single ‘Watch it in the Wind’. Opening with slightly off-kilter tremolos, rich bass grooves and subtle hi-hats rhythms, Evan soon drops you into the dynamic yet atmospheric body of the track. The consistency of the bass movement and the deeply rhythmic nature of the kick and snare combination feed into a soundscape of unrestricted sparkling moments. The keys ring out, and the folky acoustic twinkles and cascading synth nuances all emerge into a luxuriant arrangement, providing a bed for love-drenched vocals, kept engaging by the hub of celestial activity found beneath them.

Evan shares, “There was a certain sense of longing that I had felt for many years. Once it dissipated I felt that I wanted to capture it in a song because there was something very beautiful about it.”

Samuel Evanson shares charming new single ‘Jade Green’

0

In 2016, Samuel Evanson posted a cover on Facebook, quickly making him an overnight internet sensation, and allowing him to perform live on BBC One to raise money for Children In Need. Going on to enter competitions and receive rewards for his efforts, 2019 saw Samuel make a move to Liverpool, switching lanes into the realm of television. Returning to music with new ideas, publication support and Spotify editorial features, Samuel Evanson’s forthcoming debut album is just coming over the horizon.

Samuel Evanson‘s final teaser ahead of his album has now arrived, gracing fans’ ears as the enamoured ‘Jade Green’. Between the twinkling electric guitar arpeggios, steady drum rhythms and constant guide of a warm bass line, Samuel’s performance is laced with passion and confidence, showing a clear emotional connection to his lyricism and bringing a sense of understanding to every word uttered. The sparkling indie soundscapes are steadily filled with more bright electric guitars and subtle electronic soundscapes, with each chorus coming back to ask audiences to dance once again. Glittery, gentle and bringing you right back into the moment, it’s a charming new tune.

Samuel explains, ”I wrote the record Jade Green earlier in the year to help me process the loss of one of my closest friends who was murdered by her ex partner at just 27. I was struggling to face the loss and hid myself away for a while but the track has helped me get closure on this tragic event. I later decided to release this track as the final single before my debut album ‘We Are Meant To Break The Rules’ is released in June. I want her name to be heard worldwide because she was such an incredible person and it may also help other people in similar situations. The UK Government has also introduced a law to protect the children of parents murdered by their partner as previously they still had a say in their children’s lives, this has been called ‘Jades Law’ and I wanted to show my support for this also.”

92elm reveals captivating new EP ‘There You Are’

0

Artist-producer 92elm has built an audience around smooth sounds and heartfelt melodies. The acclaimed engineer is based in Philadelphia and has been making waves both as a solo artist and working with others, releasing a steady string of singles and EPs as he refines a uniquely interesting style.

92elm‘s latest release sees the artist once again take on the multi-track EP, with three new tunes joining enticing teasers ‘Stasis’ and ‘Tell no Tales’. As the opener, ‘Stasis’ is an ethereal and graceful dive into 92’s sound, with neo-soul pouring from every crevice, but receiving a healthy balance of hip-hop and R&B influences to achieve an infinitely warm soundscape, that gives the listener an instantly summer lounging feeling. ‘Dead Ends’ then leans into the groovy electronica that comes on the flip side of the producer’s sound. melodic bass lines dive through octave jumps and vocal line mimics to craft a funk-fuelled atmosphere decorated with e-piano, filtered guitars and swirling synths.

As we hit the halfway point, ‘Closer’ arrives as an emotive and darker addition to the tracklist, huge bass notes cut through the low end, whilst steady drums and falling melodies add a sense of sultry romance to the haziness. The opening moments of ‘Mask’ immediately draw you in, with the simple synth sound honed into perfection and supported by orchestral string arrangements. The track builds so steadily, that it takes a while to realise all the rising momentousness is originally achieved with no drums, making the moment the groove kicks back in a spellbinding fuel-up. ‘Tell no Tales’ continues to be a gorgeous and easygoing groove, firing out sleek sounds and expecting nothing but movement in return. It’s a really strong project from 92elm, showcasing the boundaries of his signature sound whilst remaining a cohesive summer hit.

The artist dives into the new project, ”This EP is a leap forward for me – My vocals & lyric writing are more up front & honest than anything I’ve created in the past. The EP contains themes of loss, pain, feeling stagnant in life, and moving through these things in the process of stepping into myself fully. That’s why I titled it “There You Are” because writing about these challenging experiences helped me locate myself.”

442 by Midnight Sky

0

Midnight Sky‘s latest single, “442”, marks a bold and exciting departure from their recent work on the album, “Last Hope for the Modern World”. Drawing inspiration from Beach Boys concert footage, songwriter and musician Tim Tye has created a delightful homage to not just classic tunes, but also the iconic Oldsmobile 442.

The lyrics paint a vibrant picture, taking listeners on a wild ride with a 442 car. The song is clearly a labour of love – the meticulous detail about the engines, paint colors, and even a made-up technology called “Ultrascan” show an imaginative depth that is quite charming. Tye’s clever wordplay and catchy melodies bring a fresh modern twist to the nostalgic sound, making the song not just a tribute but a unique piece that stands on its own.

The lyric video further enhances the experience, with close-ups of a yellow Oldsmobile 442 blending seamlessly with the lyrics. It’s a visual feast that takes viewers back in time while simultaneously solidifying the song’s presence in today’s music scene.

Tye’s passion for music is evident throughout the song, his skillfully crafted lyrics and unmistakable guitar playing skills shine through, showcasing his talent in the most subtle yet impressive manner. After over 45 years as a lawyer, it’s inspiring to see Tye’s dedication to his musical career, and “442” is a testament to that commitment.

“442” boasts a powerful beat that’s impossible to ignore. The 500 horsepower time machine comes alive in your ears, and you can almost hear the engine roar as Tye delivers the chorus with a palpable energy. Tye’s vocals meld perfectly with the rhythm, adding another layer to the song’s complexity.

Overall, “442” is a refreshing and energetic single that will definitely appeal to both nostalgia lovers and modern music aficionados alike. It’s an impressive addition to Midnight Sky’s repertoire and another step forward in Tim Tye’s burgeoning musical career. EP: Painting (acoustic) by CORNELIUS EADY TRIO

Cornelius Eady’s rustic, acoustic folk sound-rich and precious in his latest collection of tunes. The EP, titled Painting, is a beautifully written and produced work of acoustic blues and folk that’s full to the brim with gentle and weighted riffs alongside Eady’s smoky vocals.

Cornelius Eady, singer and songwriter, is the spearhead of the Cornelius Eady Trio, based in New York, and made up of Eady and multi-instrumentalists Charlie Rauh and Lisa Liu. Self-described as folk, blues, and funk -with a dose of poetry, Painting is indeed a poetic little album. Musically and lyrically, the trio finds no difficulty in conjuring vivid images with melodies and arrangements, alongside poignant words and fantastic performances.

Painting is showcasing a trio of extremely proficient musicians. Capable through restraint of creating wholly immersive soundscapes that are at once minimal and intricate. ‘Rich Man and The Reaper’ and ‘The Unworried Life’ are two wonderful compositions. Between the smokehouse melancholy of the former, with its gentle acoustic riff and blaring organs, and the cornerstone piano line on the latter, the trio is displaying a wholly unique style that’s easily as gratifying and as interesting as the work of Nick Cave or Tom Waits, while making without the edginess or darkness of both musicians.

The rhythmic ‘God Will Get The Glory’ is an experiment that features ominous melodies and a gentle stomp, and the closer, the title song, is a gentle and lilting ballad that sees Eady uncover a new, more tender facet of his voice, making the song one of the EP’s most heartwarming songs. The 8 songs that makeup Painting are uniformly fascinating in how lush they are while being so soft and -at times- minimal. The Trio, who have been playing together for the better part of 8 years, are displaying a truly unique sound in Painting.

Torture by FRANK JOSHUA

London-based artist Frank Joshua released his latest single “Torture” on the 17th of this May…a much anticipated single from the brilliant artist full of energy and melodies.

Frank manages to create a catchy tune while not missing out on the energy and drive of the beat…and while we’re talking about the melody, Frank created a melody that is both haunting, emotional, and…just very unique…

It feels like Frank found a new musical scale that only he plays on…what a modus operandi!

“Torture” tackles the topic of toxic relationships and the harm they cause, where the artist chose to opt for an electro-pop direction rather than his go-to unique melodic pop one.

“Torture” was originally released as an album track on Frank’s 2nd album ‘Talk Of Thing’, but now it’s getting a chance to shine…mainly due to the perseverance of the Chicago-based radio show ‘BAD Waves Radio’ which has been plugging the track.

Frank’s single “Torture” is a unique melody-driven electro-pop journey, filled with stories, emotions, and catchy vibes that will continue to resonate with audiences far after the track reaches its end.

Wishing all the best to Frank Joshua, the brilliant artist.

Cheers!

Album: I Wish It Was True by JOANNA ADAMIAK

Joanna Adamiak’s effervescent pop returns with a culmination of her recent string of touching singles. I Wish It Was True is a uniformly emotive and heartfelt album of synth-led pop that’s gentle and smooth.

Preferring the synth-pop label, Joanna Adamiak is a singer and songwriter based in the Polish capital Warsaw. Her sound is atypically singer/songwriter-like with her twisting melodies and strong vocal presence taking center stage, but with backing music that’s mostly electronic and dreamy. Joanna’s cerebral lyrical style is always refreshing. With a factual approach to structuring situations and sentences, Adamiak is always capable of taking us along for a rich lyrical trip through her musings, observations, and wonderings.

The music on I Wish It Was True is a nice compliment to the dense lyrical style, because it is breezy, easygoing, and soft, taking pages from the books of Julee Cruise and Majical Cloudz and blending them with the Bjork-ish quirkiness of the lyrical delivery. The immaculate lightness of the album’s synth-pop is carried via a variety of soft synths and keyboards, airy mallets such as on the starter ‘Scenario’ and ‘Never Ready for Love’, bellowing pads such as on the title song, or playful, percussive keys such as on the bright and colorful ‘Reflection of Myself’, one of the albums’ more Bjork-like songs.

The songs on I Wish It Was True sound light and honest. Lighthearted too! I can’t help but envision Adamiak being an old friend airing some of her worries and vulnerabilities to us listeners through these gorgeous and easygoing songs. Stunners that are often sad but never hopeless, I Wish It Was True is a warm album that’s as honest as they could possibly come.
