AlienBlaze & OmenXIII collab on new single “Lovesick”

0

AlienBlaze is a 20 year old mad as hell singer/songwriter and lead guitarist crafting genre-fluid anthems resulting in a fascinating hybrid of everything from dark alternative pop, grunge and emo, to rock and electronic elements. Her dominating presence emits an angsty appeal, encouraging a sense of self-empowerment to her young audience.

In her school years, AlienBlaze spent most of her time at home through sickness, so spent hours and hours learning the electric guitar on her mum’s old guitar, wanting to play like her guitar inspirations Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains and Slash. Blaze’s sense of alienation from her peers is what inspired her to add the ‘alien’ part to her name as an artist.

Her latest single “Lovesick” features fellow Sumerian Records artist OmenXIII, seeing AlienBlaze enter a new hybrid world of rock meets rap. The artist shares, “I always wanted Lovesick to be a tortured love song, but it actually works even better as a duet. I just love what OmenXIII has done with his verse and I think our two styles actually give the song an extra intensity.”

Produced by Kid Brunswick and mixed by Dan Lancaster (Muse, Bring Me The Horizon), “Lovesick” takes inspiration from a multitude of artists such as Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park and The Cure, as well as EDM/ rap elements from Lil Peep and the lyrical style of Billie Eilish. Featuring raucous guitars, colliding percussion and a throbbing bass line, OmenXIII‘s verse adds an interesting twist to the track, allowing things to cool off before AlienBlaze re-enters with her bold and brazen energy.

Covering topics such as the everyday experiences of a young adult, to more poetic themes including pathetic fallacy and imagery from nature, AlienBlaze delivers her message in a way that allows listeners from all walks of life to interpret it.

Since only uploading her first song to Spotify in 2019, she has received attention from numerous Spotify editorial playlists, garnering hundreds of thousands of plays. She has also had praise from the likes of Oli Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon), Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari), Grimes and Ellie Roswell (Wolf Alice), as well as from publications including Wonderland Magazine, NOTION and Kerrang!. AlienBlaze will be performing at The Great Escape on Friday 12th May.

Theatrical Pop artist Vicki Lovelee slays on anthemic single “Retaliate”

0

Vicki Lovelee is a Chinese Canadian alt-pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Markham, Ontario. Her music combines pop with dark, dramatic sounds; fused with orchestral instrumentations.  With an eccentric and raw persona she is a combination of fierce vibrant and honest vulnerability.

An adamant champion of mental health awareness and the beauty of diversity, her latest single “Retaliate” encapsulates her artistic voice in an invitation to the pop slayers progressive world that she escorts you to with open bejeweled arms.

The single is a hypnotic alt-pop bop with hooky and dynamic production building to a triumphant crescendo.  An anthemic banger meant to remind the listener, it’s okay to have feelings, it’s okay to be affected and stand up again with retaliation for that is the human condition.

“Ugly emotions in motion, sudden explosions of feeling blue, then feeling green. Everyone around me telling me how obscene, but I don’t give a fuck”

AIRPORTS speaks about loss in emotion-fuelled “NEED U HERE” – OUT NOW!

0

On a unique path to carve his own sound and legacy – Brisbane based singer, writer and Platinum producer Aaron Lee, aka AIRPORTS, takes an innovative approach to his music. Combining punk with drum n bass & EDM, he creates a sound which shimmers with hifi sonics and pop sensibilities, giving listeners something that they won’t have heard before.

Without skimping on relatable and well-crafted lyricism, this Australian one man army takes listeners on a journey into his own self-awareness, overcoming battles such as loss and life threatening illnesses, forming deeper connections with his fans.

His latest single “NEED U HERE” demonstrates the songwriters desire to speak about raw, real and personal experiences. Touching on loss and everything that comes with it, the emotion-fuelled track covers loss of a loved one, as well as loss of true self and identity, allowing listeners to connect with his lyrics on a multitude of levels.

“NEED U HERE” is the perfect example of the artist tastefully blending two sonic worlds. Aaron shares, “Musically, I’ve always loved bands like Pendulum and how they blended rock with drum n bass. I’m more of a pop punk singer and have wanted to play with the idea of that over drum n bass in a similar but fresh vein.”

Garnering acclaim from tastemaker media outlets such as Wonderland, Popdust, Earmilk, Live Nation’s Ones To Watch and Culture Collide, as well as spins from leading radio stations including George FM, ZM, Triple J & Kiiss FM, AIRPORTS exclusive and unparalleled sound is proving to be something that everyone wants to be a part of.

In the background Aaron Lee is also a sought after writer/producer who’s client list includes Multi-Platinum JPOP group ARASHI, award winning projects for viral artists and global brands such as Coca-Cola & Fanta.

AIRPORTS continues to explore new sonic horizons abroad in 2023.

Tara Van shares the empowering track “Rise” on the album of the same name

Although Toronto singer-songwriter Tara Van grew up in an artistic and welcoming family, she felt that she was somehow born missing the rhythm, dancing to her own beat. On her journey she has graduated from a performing arts high school, written a musical which was presented at Page 2 Stage in the UK, been diagnosed with ADHD, gone through a self-discovery of her queerness, and more.

LISTEN HERE!

All of that life experience has been explored in Rise, Tara‘s debut full-length solo album. It’s inspired by Rupi Kaur’s poetry book, The Sun And Her Flowers. The concept is all about the reincarnation of self depicted by the lifecycle of a sunflower, through wilting, falling, rooting and rising.

The title track, “Rise,” is about rebuilding. After the heartbreak of her life, it took Tara some time to rise from the ashes, like a phoenix reborn. The song was written after a tearful breakup, a love letter written to her ex that would go nowhere, and the subsequent closure she finally got.

Album: I Like It But I Do It by Beatdenker

Beatdenker returns. The eclectic Berliner is back with more whimsical and unsettling electronic compositions that are fragmented, challenging, and inquisitive.

Based in Berlin, Beatdenker might be that one electronic music producer who’s too weird for the Berlin scene. Labeling himself as a long list of things, chief amongst them, Beatdenker is a guitarist, composer, and producer. He’s also a festival organizer, a traveler, and a part of the Berlin Subwater Beats collective.

I Like It But I Do It is Beatdenker’s latest release. Referred to as a one-track album, the piece runs for 20 whole minutes, and along the journey, it managed to defy every bit of my rhythmic and harmonic knowledge, and halfway through my second listen I found myself conceding to Beatdenker’s clearly superior knowledge. What I could make of the piece though, is its focus on rhythm and percussion, using what seems like a thousand different samples for kick drums, snares, and other percussive sounds.

The parts that feature discernable melodies are few and far between, with roughly the song’s 10th minute (starting 9:22) being the piece’s most standout section, melodically, albeit haunting, and the AI-generated video of humanoid figures making the experience all the more unsettling. The video itself is terrific, with sharp colors, visuals, and clear cuts between the composition’s sections.

I Like It But I Do It brings us more of Beatdenker’s eccentric, intimidating, rhythm-heavy electronica, that’s maybe a little more accessible than his previous release. For lovers of electronic and experimental music, dissecting Beatdenker’s latest work can provide you with homework for a whole month.

Destructive Interference by Inki

Once again Iceland stuns with a sensational artist, proving the long-standing theory that there must be something in their water or in their air that helps the land churn out one terrific talent after the other. Meet Inki.

Inki is the moniker for Ingibjörg Friðriksdóttir, an Icelandic artist, based in the capital city Reykjavik. Her alt-pop is wholly original and her cold, Nordic sound is a pure pleasure to experience. In her single Destructive Interference, we get a pretty good glimpse into the world of Inki’s music, and it is a lush world, rich in detail, but quite edgy and quirky at the same time, creating a fusion that’s quite refreshing.

This piece of alternative pop is laid-back with a looming, melodic sub-bass. A flittering sample of Inki’s voice is processed into singing a melody that hovers above ground all throughout the song, providing a point of reference and anchoring it securely somewhere above ground, from both flying away and falling flat. A genius bit of sound design that showcases the level of musical creativity that Inki operates. The rest of the song is not too shabby either. The melodic, fragmented vocal melody is nuanced, with a sensual, artistic glide at parts, and spots of intentional dissonance that inject the arrangement with vivid color that’s highlighted by the pretty cloudy rest of the instrumentation. And the result is something that’s quite fresh.

Destructive Interference is proof of Inki’s compositional and arrangement skills without a hint of doubt. A detailed offering that keeps on revealing one layer after another that’s hidden beneath its icy, minimalist exterior. A rewarding listen and the easiest to recommend one.

Cex by Lump200

A new piece of experimental electronica from Berlin is almost always going to be a curious and engaging listen. But that’s a mere assumption. Lump200’s latest release, Cex, sits snugly in that category. So, is it a curious and engaging listen? Yes. Very.

Berlin-based Lump200 is an electronic music cross act who are on the verge of dropping its fifth studio album, titled Isles of You, and Cex is the 3rd single released ahead of the album. The piece’s driving, vibrato-laden synth is slick and snaky, harmonically rich, and sonically exciting. The Latin vocal samples are immaculately spliced and processed for an alien effect. The chopped-up beats are looming and in a perpetual chase with the synths and the downbeat. Cex is equally foreboding and intoxicatingly hypnotizing. It scares you, but you can’t look anywhere else.

Lump200’s Cex is a piece of electronica that brings the shanty districts of Central America and injects them with an alien feel that’s quite frankly captivating. Otherworldly human sounds, earthy synthesizers that sound like laser guns, there’s a level of creativity here that’s simply off the scale. Only Berlin.

Tumbleweeds by Chucky Trading Co

The latest single from the collaborative project Chucky Trading Co. is entitled “Tumbleweeds” and is a heart-shattering acoustic/ folk song with some country and Americana vibes to it.

The track begins right away with some highly emotional vocals, a piano melody, and an amazing progression on the acoustic guitar. The vocals are soft and melodic and match the slow tempo so well. It made me feel like I’m playing Red Dead Redemption 2 due to its lyrical narrative of brotherhood and loss.

Speaking of the lyrics, the song shows some amazing penmanship and is one of the most memorable choruses I’ve ever heard, in my opinion. This song could pretty much serve as a eulogy from the speaker to his dead/stranded brother which he mentions many times throughout the song. You can picture yourself in a harsh and extremely cold winter time moving between the “tumbleweeds” and dealing with both physical and emotional pain with these lyrics and this arrangement.

In conclusion, this is a song that starts slow and emotional and slowly builds up. There is some soft drumming in the second verse and a piano solo/interlude. Every country and folk element is crystal clear thanks to the amazing production and mixing. If you’re looking for a song that packs an emotional gut punch while feeling like an amazing journey with amazing vocals and folky melodies then this is the song for you.

Album: V by Tre$o

In a world filled with many, many….many places to get music from, you rarely find the ‘going back to roots’ kind of music…especially if it’s done with a modern twist…

All the way from Atlanta, USA comes a very strong contender…and he doesn’t come lightly, he comes with his fifth album “V” and an impressive track list of 23 songs!

Tre$o starts the album out with “run it up”…an ambient trap track with an edgy start and acts as an excellent ‘foot in the door’ for the rest of the album. Tre$o starts out on a high note…only to follow it up with “Heavy”…it’s…it’s really hard to put in a category…but if I were to let my imagination run wild, I’d say it’s a cyberpunk-ish, ambient, cinematic trap/hip-hop song that punches really hard…

“Vantage” is the third track and once again, Tre$o hits hard with his lyrics and with his hard beats…

…if you noticed the album name, it’s “V” and it has a couple of meanings behind it…

Firstly, it’s Tre$o’s fifth album to be released…

Secondly, 555 is the number of changes…and this is what he aims to do, change the game up…

…and he does make his own mark on the genre, bringing his own character out to his audiences…

Going further into the album, “Hellboy” is one of the heaviest songs on the album, sonically, it’s like if there is rock and heavy rock…this would be hip-hop and heavy hip-hop.

“Fuck Depression” has a very sensitive topic, lyrically it’s something anyone could relate to…not to mention the synth arpeggios playing in the background, it sounds very unique and very full.

“Ego Death” is one of the more smooth and one of songs that has a more ambient feel to it…it’s on the relaxing side of the spectrum…

….sometimes Tre$o goes back to the roots and gives us something like “swag tunes!”…it’s more akin to old-school hip-hop, definitely a banger.

…..other times he goes and makes something like “Celestica” a super modern-sounding ambient trap song with some excellent pop culture references…Tre$o flows amazingly here…

I absolutely enjoyed “Climb” because it feels like a song made for the big screen…it has superhero vibes…something like “Sunflower” for Spiderman…it’s very specific, but you’ll see what I mean once you click the play button.

Tre$o mixes it up several times in the album, with different beats and different soundscapes he manages to keep us going further and deeper into his fifth and latest album “V”…which is actually not an easy feat to accomplish.

Tre$o ends his album with “Vetements flow”…and it feels like he combined all of his unique elements and all of his musical and lyrical prowess and he put it into this last track…

…if you thought he started on a high note, then you gotta check “Vetements flow” out right now.

Tre$o, you’re changing the game and that’s very challenging but you make it seem just smooth…

We wish you all the best in life and can’t wait to hear what you cook up next.

Cheers!
