EP: Abstract Facts by The Numb Project

The Numb Project just released “Abstract Facts”, a mesmerizing EP with 4 instrumental tracks that will take you through different glitchy and hip-hop beat-infused soundscapes that are sure to fire up your musical instincts and trigger your imaginations to create alien worlds and trippy universes.

The first track is “Blind”…a unique fusion of hip hop, ambient and synthetic sounds of the future that acts as a gateway…a portal if you will, into an alien world…the beats are brilliantly groovy…the melodies and sounds are mesmerizing…and if you look at the album art while you listen to it, you’ll get that teleportation feeling into an alien world.

Going into the second track, “Cavitate”…the beat-driven, glitchy nature of the ambient elements of the track also joins forces with microtonal melodies to create a stunning experience of the complete unknown…

“Abstract Facts” the title song of the album is a surreal painting of punchy bass sounds and spacey pads…it has a slow-burning build-up, and with each addition of a new sound and effect it feels richer and richer…this track has a drop in the middle, falling into an even more ambient field…it felt like drifting into the vast darkness of space…

The fourth and final track is “Yield” and it starts with a unique sound…a bit edgy, but only to end up on a smooth musical transition and into a very melodic musical progression…the sonic elements in this track are very interesting, and are choreographed, creating a polyrhythmic feeling to the music…

“Abstract Facts” the EP is an achievement in sound work and design, with great subtle melodies and smooth beats…the whole experience is very hypnotically chill but has some drive in it through its hip hop and trappy glitch beats…

…a highly enjoyable and recommended ride, this one.

The Numb Project, we wish you all the best in the world, you definitely deserve it…and a lot more.

We can’t wait to hear what you come up with next.

Cheers!

Empowering New Single & Album Announcement – Mike Rogers

0

The empowering “Live Out Loud” is the title-track from Mike Rogers‘ upcoming debut album and encourages listeners to speak their truth and live life to the fullest.

Mike Rogers in an Amsterdam based indie dance trio who make bold music to make big musical gestures without sensationalism. Encouraging listeners to live in the moment, Mike Mago, TWR72 and the lead singer of Kita Menari have joined forces to craft something which is unlike anything you’ve heard before.

Mike and Roger met during the famous Dutch underground electro parties in early 2000, where they both performed as DJ’s. The raw and energetic scene saw the two playing a mixture of electro, French house, fidget and techno. As years passed by, they both started to develop their own sound, but noticed they had a similar dream; to start a live act inspired by the acts they grew up with, including Mike Snow, Foals, Editors, Van She and Goose to name a few. Thus, they created Mike Rogers, as a way to bring an extra challenge and development next to their DJ and production career.

Bringing in singer Micha to add big vocals to their signature sound, the combined creativity of the three has reached a whole new level. Their upcoming debut album combines analog with digital and retro with modern, as they explore the roots of their inspiration as music fans and combine that with the skills they have developed over the years.

Their latest single is the title-track off of their upcoming debut album. “Live Out Loud” is the pinnacle song of the album and cuts two ways. The band shares, “The song was written during a period where, we felt, far sides of the political spectrum were very present. We wanted to motivate the group known as the silent middle to stand up for their (slightly more nuanced) thoughts/visions/ideas.” The trio continues, “We also wanted to seek overlap in standing up for your idea and being outgoing whilst losing oneself in the moment. We all have to live out loud more. If you don’t live life fully, you don’t live life at all. You have to live it out loud to make sense of it, because otherwise ‘you’ll never know what it’s all about.’ And if you know what it’s all about, you have to fight for it.”

Their debut album combines analog with digital. Retro with the modern. As they explore the roots of their inspiration as music fans and combine that with their music writing and production skills they have developed over the years. During the writing process, most of the band members shoot over short ideas to each other which another band member then picks up and develops. The ideas get passed along or blown off till there is an album. During this process they agreed that it felt like a second nature to be bold and make big musical gestures without the sensationalism.

This approach is not only found in the music but also in the message of the record. Why do people always have to choose between black and white?  You don’t have to choose between extremes. You can be modest in your opinions but still Live Out Loud!

This is what Mike Rogers is sharing with you. Go out there and live in the moment. You don’t always have to choose sides. The music represents this throughout. All styles from opposite sides are mixed to create a perfect balance in the middle or leave the listener with an ambiguous feeling.

Roger: ‘We encourage to ask questions out loud. To share your uncertainties out loud. To say, I don’t know, yet I care. To forgive out loud. To live out loud.’

Bring Me Flowers by Eva No

A new single from Eva No brings a healthy fusion of inspirations for a refreshing song that sounds classy, elegant, and very easy to get into.

An artist and songwriter from Stockholm, Eva No has a sound that’s mostly traditional in her pop music. Borrowing from a plethora of influences, her latest single, titled Bring Me Flowers, has a sound that fuses Latin, Tango, and jazz in a healthy dish of melodic sensibilities. Bring Me Flowers flows easily, courtesy of its rumbling, rhythmically arpeggiated bass line, and syncopated drum line. A searing string arrangement beautifully accompanies the composition, providing rich counterpoints for Eva No’s vocal melodies on the tear-jerking chorus.

The strings on Bring Me Flowers carry a heavy weight in delivering the song’s sensual Tango flavor, while the familiar, descending chord progression provides the same shoulders for carrying the Latin feel of the song. A showstopping change in a key that happens halfway through the song injects the whole song with an immense sense of drama and urgency.

Eva No’s Bring Me Flowers is a display of her talents as a composer and arranger as she brings us a beautiful piece of timeless pop music that fuses genres and sound for a result that’s fresh and exciting.

The Best You’ll Ever Have by Katie Belle

Katie Belle’s single ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’ is a piece of searing, dark synthpop that lures you in and keeps you hooked on that replay button for more of the same.

Singer/songwriter Katie Belle hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and her sound is essentially modern, clean-production, radio pop, but with a few twists up her sleeve that make her music stand well apart from the bunch. Vocal and melodic, Katie Belle’s latest single is sung in a talk-sing way that’s effortless, confident, and quite intoxicating. Her vocal prowess does not necessarily shine on ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’ in terms of range or power, but rather in terms of pure charisma and immaculate control.

Katie’s latest single exudes a dark character, courtesy of twisty synth arpeggios, a Minor scale composition, and a largely minimal arrangement that doesn’t boast of many layers, but with the few that it has got, great results are made. The trap beats shapeshift from a syncopated kick drum line in the intro that shifts to a more urgent beat on the pounding chorus before a smooth shift to a bridge section in half-tempo that beautifully breaks the pace with its simmering, portmanteau synth bass. The result from the nuanced rhythm arrangement, the dark, alluring composition, and Katie Belle’s intoxicating vocal delivery ar a piece of pop that’s intricate, pulling, and immensely enjoyable.

The Best You’ll Ever Have is a solid release from one of the rising stars in Atlanta’s pop scene who is starting to make much larger ripples, attracting new listeners to her personal brand of pop from all over the world, and with me having her music on repeat for maybe an hour, she’s got at least one new fan. Check out this single from Katie Belle, and if you like, make sure to give ‘Next Ex’ and ‘Don’t’, also from Katie Belle, a listen.

Alt pop songstress Sam Casey throws shade at social media norms on “7 Second Superstar”

0

Toronto–based songstress Sam Casey wears her authenticity like your favourite pair of well–worn jeans. Her unfiltered and unapologetic songs are inspired by the past two years of her life: all the breakups, the makeups, the drugs, the dancing, the crying, the anxiety and the love.

Her passive aggressive song, “7 Second Superstar,” was inspired by TikTok fame. It comes off as judgmental because it is. Sam and her co-writers, Julianna Eye and Chloe Kay, felt critical of social media – TikTok in particular – and how it promotes a culture of one hit wonders.

“Julianna, Chloe, and I wrote this song over Zoom in 2021 with TikTok reaching its height of popularity and all of us being quite literally forced to participate on the app,” Sam explains. “After a conversation regarding our experiences in the early-2000’s and late 90’s (before social media existed), we decided to try a blink-182 vibe and about 2 hours later we had a song.”

EP: Staring at the Sun by Jason Heeter

0

Mixing his favorite genres with 15 years of music experience, American singer/songwriter Jason Heeter dropped his first EP Staring at the Sun on the 29th of April 2023. With tight arrangements and bright vibes, Staring at the Sun is the chill smooth record that you start your day with or end it listening to it with your favorite drink, let me tell you more about it.

Jason Heeter kickstarted Staring at the Sun with a classic country sound in Lazy Day. It has playful laid-back vocals and a smooth mellow groove with bright colorful melodies that instantly transmit warm chilling vibes. The multi-layered guitars added a dynamic twist to Heeter‘s sound while those smooth vocal harmonies laid another cozy engaging touch to his mix. The title track Staring at the Sun comes next with a sweet jazzy flow and Jason Heeter‘s signature heartwarming melodies. It opened with catchy guitar picking before the piano and cello steal the entire show. It has some of the most mood-adjusting piano work with warm deep bass, all in a subtle relaxing flow that put a wide smile on my face, sending it straight to my “morning drive” playlist. Building on the sound of its predecessor comes The Light. Flexing his dynamic writing, Heeter mixed Americana influences with his jazzy tendencies in a flowing light stream as he incorporates irresistible catchy harmonica licks in a laidback organic structure. Closing the EP on a heartfelt emotional note comes I Know You Rider. A deep, from-the-heart tune that shows Jason Heeter‘s seasoned writing skills through his arrangements, and his amazing meaningful guitar playing that takes all over the listener’s senses. He got me hooked with his powerful emotions that were easily channeled through his words and remarkably expressive voice.

Staring at the Sun is a solid EP that says a lot about Jason Heeter‘s sound, songwriting, and musicianship. He managed to create a state of relaxation for his fans through his fluid atmospheric melodies, showing his amazing sense of melody and mood. Looking forward to more from Jason Heeter, keep on rocking man. Cheers!

Weather For Two Ft. Don Corleone, 17 Milez by Wiztom

0

In his single “Weather for Two,” the Nigerian solo artist Wiztom is showing us how affection and vibrance teamed up could offer exactly the fresh vibe everyone needs in a hot summer.

Wiztom knows how to craft a positive atmosphere with its lively, blended sound, sensational performance, and lyrics that are full of longing, passion, and a protective tone. The witty musician collaborates with Don Corleone and 17 Milez to present spirited Afrobeat rhythms. It’s all well-mashed together, and the textures are smooth; the vocals are soulful and fun at once, keeping up the same energy of the melody and conveying the sentiments in the lyrics; the African uplifting percussion with the electronic and contemporary pop elements all urge one to grab their beloved one and dance till they fall.

The song easily sticks in one’s head with its catchy chorus, infectious soundscapes, appealing musicality, and relatable theme. The single portrays sensual yearning, some butterflies leaving the stomach and spreading in the air, and some jealousy and threats from whoever would constitute a hindrance between the couple.

“Weather for Two” is the song you need to loosen a bit, express love genuinely, and get exposed to a skilled artist with bombastic Afrobeat sonic delight.

Falling Off the Merry Go Round by Pam Ross

0

It’s always delightful to see children giggling while they’re swaying on the merry-go-round, and the shiny smiles turn to worried frowns if they fall down. Pam Ross’ “Falling Off the Merry Go Round,” with its melodic blended sound and poignant performance, conveys a way harder kind of child falling, which is the brutally repeated school shootings.

I don’t mind the fact that music can sometimes be just a way of entertaining, nothing more and nothing less. Nevertheless, I believe that it’s a resonating way to send a message, to spread awareness, and to be a voice for the voiceless. The award-winning artist, born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, who spent most of her life in Houston and currently resides in North Carolina but considers Nashville her home, is one of these light-in-the-darkness stars who utilize their work for a big cause, which in “Falling Off the Merry Go Round”‘s case is being vocal about school gun terrorism, especially the recent event in Nashville, in a melancholic, poetic manner.

“Falling Off the Merry Go Round” has all it takes to penetrate hearts instantly. Astonishing musicality with smooth sensibility, varying fabrics of flair all weaved together in one neat canvas, profound songwriting that showcases a crucial matter, soulful and emotive vocals that can seamlessly shine through all the elements, and well-executed production that ties all components together without overshadowing any and without marginalizing the message.

Pam Ross is a skilled musician who knows how to give attention to every detail and result in a flawless, touching, and appealing work of art. The instruments are all pure bliss, but I’ve got to fixate on how outstanding the guitar work is! The song discusses devastating events, yet its instrumentation isn’t overwhelming but rather heartfelt and passionate. The Rock, Americana, and Country fusion with a tasty splash of Blues and Jazz build a sonic solace soundscape that is needed, and the lyrics paint a picture of the bittersweet scene of an innocent meeting, not justified violence. Pam’s sentimental vocal line, with tender and sad tones together in a deep, from-the-heart performance, is what gives this realistic potion its magical spark.

I need to end this article by saying that musically, this is a rich song you owe yourself listening to, and humanly, you must, because of what it’s got to say.

“I believe we play a part in making our own Frankenstein through the world we’ve created. Over 175 have died in school shootings since Columbine. As a society, we are failing our children and each other…we are all falling off the merry-go-round.” ― Pam Ross

Squakin like a Bird by JUNK

0

JUNK’s latest release, “Squakin’ Like a Bird,” is a bold take with upbeat rhythms that spotlight the hollow kind of people whose personality is all about what they read on the internet rather than having an opinion of their own or having an individual persona at all.

Have you ever been in a social gathering and pumped into someone who can’t form one decent sentence but whose internet personality centered around sounding like an expert in everything? The type of people who attempt to appear very knowledgeable but, in reality, are clueless and unable to be real with either themselves or others. Hailing from San Diego, JUNK is using its musical prowess, blended sound, smooth flow, witty writing, and charismatic performance to put these kinds of characters under the microscope in its single, “Squakin’ Like a Bird.”

“Squakin Like a Bird” is the outcome of an innovative fusion that could only be created by the trio of Aaron “Dubl A” Seener (master bassist and music theorist), Dale “Dirty D” Pearson (saxophonist), and Nik “Anthem” Mathews (guitarist and vocalist) from San Diego, CA. You can hear Jazz, R&B, Classical, and Hip-Hop all mashed in harmony, enticing you to an abnormal realm where such a blend is normal and polished.

Although the outfit is just getting started and this is the second release, they surely have a neat artistic identity and outright themes with bright sarcastic wrapping. All the instruments are well-placed, and that gives the opportunity to enjoy each and to pay attention to the solid waves of the cynical vocals with their dignified tone. For me, I enjoyed how they seamlessly gathered the elements together, but to be honest, I have a soft spot for the sax, and its mesmerizing playing made me wonder: what if they made a track giving room for more Jazz with another controversial content? I think they’ll ace it.

All in all, if you admire musicians with a knack for pushing the boundaries of genres and showing their true colors, you’ll like this track. And if you know someone who thinks that they can enlighten others with some trivia they know or some readings from the internet while having nothing genuine to offer, then pass over them because they’re probably just “Squakin’ like a Bird.”
