Everyday by lukx

You’re just going to be wowed into this production by artist  Lukx, who is a total stunner in his new drop ‘Every day’, released on the 3rd of March from Ramillies, Belgium. A real treat to the ears; this is chill hip-hop, a high-quality song that is a collaboration between him and his father. Now, this being quite new, it must be affirmed that this song is top-notch in all aspects. Lukx has the power to mix French and English, which spices up his music like chili on eggs. He first started creating music in 2019, releasing lots of amazing singles.

With a touch of sophistication and classiness, this song will give you the right confidence mixed with a backdrop of chill and relaxing sounds. The overall sound of the song is mellow, chill, and also sexy in many ways. It’s perfect for any time. The musical arrangement is rich, dynamic and so sweet. The soundscape is a slow-paced, hip-hop sound that is more laid back and contrasting with the savage bar spitting from Lukx. You’ve got a hardcore bassline with a fun, groovy piano, electric guitars around effects that pop up in the song in a minimalistic yet extremely effective and smooth way, soft drums that regulate the pace, and whistling sound effects that also sound like xylophone, cascading through the melody giving it magical vibes. The vocals are confident and smooth and Lukx’s performance is just really striking. This collaboration is a gem, and we can’t wait to see more from the duo.

0

Artist Leif Riggs based in Encinitas, US, released a whopping hip hop track called ‘ Phantom’, on the 26th of February, that will leave your head spinning from how hardcore good it is. Production is by InsaneBeatz and the song is considered battle rap style. After going back to college in his late 20s and securing a degree in mathematics, Riggs found himself in the comfort and pleasure of writing music as a side thing from his career, which keeps him writing and creating as he has always done because of his passion for music since two decades.

This song encompasses a high level of intensity and artistry in the lyrics and sonic aspects. Riggs’ performance is also top-notch and very smooth with his flow and rhymes. The overall sound of the song is badass and hyped up. Riggs is just spitting fire in this song. It talks about having stamina and withstanding hardship and pressure, a classic rap topic but with his persona and twist in style. The musical arrangement is dynamic and effective in its message. It’s daring and challenging in vibes. Within a slow pace, you’ve got intense and ironic piano, subtle drums and cymbals that regulate the pace, female vocals that mimic sirens that give the track a flare of drama, and a violin backing sound. This song is great for moving your energy and mood into a higher one at any time of day!

Tyler Meacham’s latest release “Moving On (Alternate Version)” is a testament to her growth and development as an artist over the years. Originally released in 2019, the alternate version serves as a bonus track on the anniversary edition of “Into the Fray” which is set to be released on March 10th, 2023. The song was born out of a personal experience, detailing the emotional pain of a friend’s break-up as Tyler stated. Despite the unresolved issues and uncertainty hinted at in the lyrics, Tyler encourages herself and her listeners to “Move On” through repetition of the phrase in the chorus, creating a powerful link with her audience through singing along.

“Moving On (Alternate Version)” features a dynamic drum line, melodic guitar lines, ambient synths, and backing vocals with a melodious lead synth in the second verse. Tyler showcases her songwriting talent by creating an individual vibe for each part of the song. Recorded at home and self-produced Tyler slowed down the song a bit, giving it a more dynamic and emotional atmosphere where she demonstrates her amazing vocal ability while creating what she describes as “a refreshed and more mellow feel to it.”

Rising artist Mirnaz’s latest release “Eyes on You” showcases her unique blend of pop and her Arabic roots.

The Detroit-based singer/songwriter, who was born in Baghdad, Iraq, started writing her songs at the young age of 16. Following her debut single “God Complex (acoustic)” Mirnaz continues to captivate her audience with her latest offering “Eyes on You.”

I Feel Good by Parasoul

This offering from Pàrasoul is a healthy fusion of colors and styles that result in a healthy, rich, rocking sound that’s so bright and optimistic, it’s enough to break the clouds apart on a rainy day.

Pàrasoul is the moniker for Stephen Baumann, a California-based singer-songwriter whose sound mostly revolves around light indie pop, and often veers into the realms of folk, all the while bringing joy and happiness with his lighthearted sound and his soulful voice. I Feel Good, the title of his latest single, is a bright indie rock number with gorgeous, reaffirming lyrics and succulent, overdriven guitar riffs.

As is easy to presume from the song title, I Feel Good is light and reassuring. Pàrasoul’s riffing on the song is fine and empowering, his voice though is what gives this song its real shape. Pàrasoul sings his heart out on this song and really aims to drive home the point that in spite of having life giving him hard times, he manages to maintain a positive and optimistic view of life, and keeps on feeling good.

Pàrasoul states that if his music touches the heart of one person, then he will have done his job. Well rest assured Stephen, you’ve done a beautiful job.

The Philosopher by Luna Keller

Luna Keller’s latest offering, ‘The Philosopher’, is a piece of folk that resonates deeply, and hits hard with its musical and lyrical imagery, without losing for one moment its grace or elegance. An endlessly gorgeous piece of introspective songwriting.

Luna Keller is a Spanish-German singer-songwriter of gorgeous folk music, and her latest piece of music has seen her move camp from the cold German winter down to Tenerife, Spain, to work the basis of this song in her father’s home studio over the period of January and February, and the results are sublime and serene. A song about overthinking individuals that spend their time thinking about things instead of doing them, the song gently stirs and opens the eyes that maybe doing one thing without mulling over every possible outcome is healthy every once in a while.

The music is gorgeously simple and beautiful. Revolving around Luna’s introspective delivery and heartfelt words, the backing harmony is gentle and ethereal, composed primarily of a finger-picked acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies, singing moving counterpoints, along with an ever-so-gentle percussion, and the results are warm, inspiring, and moving.

‘The Philosopher’ is a show-stopping piece of heart-rending folk, beautifully written, warmly delivered, and lovingly sung. One more beautiful addition to the already illustrious portfolio of the lovely Luna Keller.

I wonder by Fat Cat Affair

0

Fat Cat Affair returns with a brand new single that carries forward his signature funk-slash-blues-gospel sound with catchy grace.

The London-based artist is multidisciplinary. Fat Cat arranges, produces, and composes music, he also features amazing musicians and collaborators worldwide, using a network that can only be described as vast and expansive, the artist has lived and worked all over Europe, staying for stints in Paris, Hamburg, Warsaw, before settling in London for the time being. It’s no wonder his networking game is top-notch.

‘I Wonder’ is a song written in remembrance of a singer that was once in Fat Cat Affair’s band. Written along with a bandmate, I Wonder features vocals from Costie Payne, recorded all the way from Japan and then shipped overseas. The music itself was recorded in the Latvian capital Riga, not the place that immediately jumps to mind when we say the words ‘blues inspired funk pop with gospel undertones’, but nonetheless, the music was recorded there and it even features some beautiful vocals from members of the Riga Cathedral Choir School. The results are not as extravagant as the geographic heritage of the song, and thankfully so. I wonder is a mostly chill number with sweet, soulful vocals from Payne, and a tight-sounding groove from some amazingly mixed, snappy drums. The choir parts are smooth and they greatly influence the “gospel” part of the song.

I Wonder is an understated piece of sweet, sleazy (tastefully), and rich pop music with a multitude of undertones from varying genres, making it sound rich and cultured, almost as much as Mr. Fat Cat himself.

Album: As Above by Club d’Elf

0

My first introduction into the illustrious world of Club d’Elf was through the release of their iconic debut album ‘As Above’ it was getting a digital release after spending the better part of two and a half decades as a collector’s item, after its release as a limited CD way back at the turn of the millennium… and oh, what an introduction it was.

Club d’Elf, is a Bostonian dub and jazz collective that has been creating stirring, dense, challenging, but incredibly rewarding music for twenty-five years. Genre-bending and exhilaratingly adventurous, Club d’Elf’s music is first and foremost jazz, but the traces of hip hop, trance, and electronica can not be overlooked, with some experimentation on ‘As Above’ that can be easily described as Avant-garde. Masterminded by Mike Rivard, the bassist, composer, and founder, his collective has never been anything short of astonishing. Currently, the group’s core members are Rivard, Dean Johnston on the drums, Mister Rourke on the turntables, and the Moroccan oudist Brahim Fribgane.

What you’ll find on As Above is roughly 2 and a half hours of delicious modern jazz with an innumerable number of tricks, fantastic performances, uber-tight production, and killer grooves, and it’s all recorded live over the course of 6 performances in 1999 and 2000, and the idea that this pristine neatness was recorded live is something that nearly defies belief, a testimony to the intense and varied spectrum of talent that Club d’Elf houses. You could really point your hand at any of the 20 pieces on ‘As Above’ and you’ll find something extremely noteworthy.  A tight, crisp groove from the wonderful sounding drums, electronic synthesizers magic, stellar, showstopping bass performances, or guitars that sound so crunchy and meaty they feel like they will rip the speakers open and jump right into your space. A general fact that persists throughout the album is the neatness of the production. No matter how dense the mix is, with multitudes of wobbly synths, dynamic and intricate drum parts, or nuanced, busy bass parts, the mix stays concise and focused. The general experience of listening to this album is extremely streamlined and enjoyable, even if the average length of those pieces is 8 minutes, the sound clarity and definition are something that makes everything easy and pleasing and flowing.

The compositions can not take the backseats to the production though. As a general rule, the pieces incorporate an impressive amount of detail, using uncommon instrumentation, syncopation, ethnic rhythms, or just simply quirky synths that make the atmospheres consistently compelling and fascinating. Another stone-hard fact that can’t be overlooked is that the performances on this album are sublime. Be a lover of this style of music or not, there’s no denying that the musical chemistry among these compositions and among the players, the core ones, and the many collaborators on this project, is obvious and present. The players featured on As Above are simply professional, well-trained, and stage-honed veteran jazzists, with no exceptions, and the unfaltering quality of playing is a clear testimony to this.

As Above is a dense and sprawling release that defies what can be written in a conventional article. If I can’t resist the temptation to start discussing actual pieces and what makes them stand out, then I’ll not be able to hold myself from talking about the next one, then the next, and the result will be a short story of sorts. So instead, I take refuge in directing each and every one of you to give this album a listen (preferably from the start, as things tend to start out relatively more conventional, and they get progressively more challenging and alien), and you’ll find it easy to understand what I mean by tight production, killer grooves, and consistently brilliant performances from all the players. As Above is definitely a challenging listen, probably one that could take a couple of days to complete and to digest, but it will undoubtedly be an unforgettable one. For jazz lovers, this album will be a must-listen.
