Theo Tams Unveils ‘Uncovered: Volume I’ EP Featuring Understated, Romantic Cover of “Cowboy Take Me Away”

0

Toronto’s Theo Tams is sharing Uncovered: Volume I, a new EP in his Trilogies series which finds the artist experimenting with new, original renditions of classic pop songs.

Uncovered: Volume I features Tams’ cover of The Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away,” an atmospheric piano and vocal-led rendition which centres on the emotive story at the heart of this song.

“I was in the process of trying to find music for my upcoming wedding in the summer and I realized just how little music there is out there that is specifically for the 2SLGBTQ community,” explains Tams.

Tams’ queer take on this iconic country song was recorded during a period where he received a wave of homophobic hatred on TikTok, all stemming from a video which Tams had posted of him and his fiancé simply listening to music together.

“So often, the gay community is pushed to the fringe and our relationships are viewed as ‘different’ or ‘less than.’ I’m really proud to be able to release [this cover] as a gay man, and one who is planning to get married. This entire release [pushes the] message that love is love, and love will always win. It will always shine brighter than the darkness of hate and ignorance.”

Emerging from Vancouver Island, Canada, Xana is an emerging pop powerhouse. Her command of pop music keeps her songwriting enthralling, as her blissful vocals glide across the most intimate storytelling and worldbuilding. It’s her intoxicating vibrance that sets Xana apart, as she encompasses themes of LGBTQ romance, female empowerment, sex positivity, self-reflection, and discovery across her flourishing repertoire.

Following the success of her debut album, Xana is back with her new single “Bad Bandit”. Since connecting with producers Liam Moes and Shane Stephenson at the beginning of 2020, her musical endeavours have taken off. Finding inspiration in various different styles of music, Xana’s experimentalism thrives, as she dips her toes into whatever she’s connecting with at that moment. Finding familial comfort in her love for country music, “Bad Bandit” encapsulates Xana’s love for all things western, as she conjured up a host of intriguing characters and chronicles alike. She explains, “One of the first things I wrote was the first verse “Like Clyde and Bonnie, I want you on my body, bandits who aren’t sorry, a money hungry party” and that’s what sent us down this old western character pop-rock rabbit-hole. It was a song we got to have a lot of fun making.”

Paying close attention to the enthralling soundscapes and ambience of older western movies, Xana turns cinematics into soundscapes in her truly unparalleled way. “Bad Bandit” soars with roaring rhythms, a pounding bassline and Xana’s truly echoic vocal energy, enveloping into a rebellious anthem that amounts to the perfect level of sass and success.

Hoping to make people feel more connected to their emotions, Xana encourages her fanbase to embrace their truly authentic selves. She confides, “It’s so beautiful to see them fiercely be themselves and form friendships and relationships with each other. Music that brings people together is the most successful, and I’m so grateful to share this space with them.”

Garnering humbling support from several Spotify editorial playlists like New Music Friday Canada, The Locker, Fresh Finds Pop, Ready to Rock and Limelight to name a few, her music video for “Kitchen Light” has surpassed one million views on Youtube. With streams surpassing 20 million on Spotify alone, Xana continues to be a trailblazer of her time.

Christee Palace Shared Her New Single “Love Me Better”

0

The indie pop artist Christee Palace released her latest single, Love Me Better on all streaming platforms.

Palace explained to her fans what is the song about;

“I was just getting out of a relationship and feeling incredibly vulnerable and sad, blaming myself for the outcome. I kept replaying a specific conversation I had with my ex in my head and told my co-writer and producer, Kayla Diamond, about it. We pulled lyrics straight from the conversation.

I became much healthier by finally focusing on myself. I noticed I started looking better; not in a vain way, but I was brighter and happier. I like to refer to it as the break-up glow-up. “Love Me Better” taught me that you truly do not need anybody to validate your self-worth. Love yourself enough first to understand what you deserve, and never allow anyone to make you feel less than. Take care of you first.”

I hope this becomes a source of strength for you too. Scream at the top of your lungs as you dance along.

Platys Yialos EP by Ali George

0

Platys Yialos is a three-track EP by British singer-songwriter and renowned fingerstyle guitarist Ali George. He had previously released some singles in the last year, some of which had aired on BBC Music and gained some praise.

The first track gave the record its name, and it takes its name from a greek beach on the island of Serifos. The track has an unusual tuning, which makes it relate more to the name and location where it’s coming from. There’s a whole beautiful Mediterranean flavor to the track which I really adored. The minimalism of the instrumentation and mysteriousness of the lyrics make the track all the more magical and ethereal.

The second track, Meagre Heights, has more personal lyrics and a more apparent Country/Americana inspiration in its sound. The addition of more vocal layers greatly impacted the song’s emotional impact and made it a very strong and touching number, in my opinion.

The third track, Another Girl, is sort of a companion piece to the title track, as it takes us back to the island and the mysterious love story that is being told here. I love how the piano added a rhythmic element that matches impeccably with soft airy vocals of Ali. You could be going through a bad day and feel instantly relieved by this beautiful and broken timbre of his voice.

All in all, this EP made me think Ali’s music and songwriting choices are somewhat similar to Cat Stevens and Mark Knopfler but the way he extends the strumming pattern all over the song and sings with nasality and breathiness also reminds me of Sting. There’s still a great deal of mystery and ambiguity in the lyrics, tuning, and guitar style though that makes this record a very unique journey, unlike anything I’ve ever heard. If you’re ever looking for a soft record with amazing ballads, then this is your go-to.
