Dreaming by Samantha Knight

0

A new artist who took a leap towards becoming the artist she is destined to be, Samantha Knight based in Peekskill, NewYork, US, released a soft-spoken song called ‘Dreaming’, on the 12th of November. This is a solo act with Samantha playing both the guitar and the piano. Knight has been writing music for over 3 years with more than 50 songs stored up for us which she plans to release in the coming period time. This song is of much importance to the artist because it’s completely produced, played, and owned by her. What an accomplishment for art that is sound asleep away from the world. We’re glad that Samantha is now following her dreams!

The idea speaks of the fear and excitement of a new love and partner. Short and sweet, the song represents universal feelings of what love first brings to us. The overall sound of the song is soothing, peaceful, and honest. We really feel through the powerful voice of Knight that she is in deep trouble with the love she has fallen into! The musical arrangement consists of an acoustic guitar and very subtle and light piano rhythms, with some violin sound effects introduced at the end. Although the song could’ve been much richer in emotive elements whether lyrically or musically since this song is an acoustic solo act for an emerging young artist we just can’t say more because of her angelic voice and contagious beautiful energy. We can’t wait to see what more we have in store for this heartfelt artist.

Album: VERMILION! by Young God Blow

0

Rising hip hop and rap artists Young God Blow based in Brooklyn, New York, released a banging fresh album called ‘Vermillion’, a mirror of its name, on the 30th of November. Young is a sure-to-be hip-hop juggernaut and it shows from the tremendous effort he makes to create and upgrade his music all the time. Starting in 2018, he changed his style a lot, except for his lyrical strength which persists until today. He loves everything about the y2k time and wanted to blend all its elements into one sonic experience with a modern hip-hop twist some of his influences are Jayz, Ski mask the slump god, and Tyler the creator.

Vermillion means red, and red is exactly what we feel A collection of personal experiences and thoughts passionately rapped about, this album is explosive with electronic trashy hip-hop sounds that make you feel like you’re in some kind of thrilling video game. It’s definitely savage and playful and Young god makes it seems effortless to sound this good with his hot charisma that seeps into his rapping style and slow. The overall sound of the album is infectious with high energy and emotion, packed in a loud and mind-blowing way. Although most of the tracks are repetitive in their musical arrangement within each song, Young still manages to make each song on its own different from the other.

The soundscape is heavy hip hop that is mostly medium paced, and the tones are playful, daring, and catchy. The instruments included are mostly very heavy and prominent bass that lead the pace and hardcore electronic sounds that merge to form a heavily processed hip hop sound that is very distinct. Many of the Melodies are surprisingly made with subtle light sounds like a synth feel, magical harp, or drums. The rapping and vocals of Young are effortlessly confident and straight to the point with a really steady flow of words. The lyrics are genius and there are a lot of wordplays that are entertaining to the ear.

The order of songs seems to have no particular order but rather a compilation of experiences and emotions that build up a smooth listening journey. Give this album a listen for an intense and hyped hip-hop vibe.

Stoppage Time by Sonomancer

0

In a fitting moment in time, Sonomancer releases a football-inspired single to immortalize the moments of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Intentional or not, the World Cup is happening now, and the Melbourne-based producer Sonomancer has chosen to release Stoppage Time now, it’s only natural to connect the dots. Stoppage Time happens to be incredibly enjoyable, comparable to the sporting event that’s underway. This piece of sublime Indietronica starts with the unmistakable chants and cheers of adoring fans, before quickly morphing the stadium-filling, pounding, cheering beat into a solid, fast-paced groove on an immaculate-sounding drum kit. The rest of the recipe is hectic synth leads that feature an extreme filtering effect in the first half, with little to no composition to take note of, this part makes use of driving beats, and energizing effects, leaving no need for any melodies whatsoever. The second half though features a descending, psychedelic, and hypnotic progression that sounds compelling and intoxicating, delivered via a similarly hectic synth, this part is sublime and truly infectious.

Stoppage Time is simple to listen to, simple to understand, and simple to enjoy. A piece of hearty Indietronica that can easily be enjoyed years and years from now.

Embodiment (duet) by Claire Bigley

0

Claire Bigley’s music is not what most people would associate with New Orleans when they think of music from New Orleans. There are no fiery horns, no marching bands, and no disco drama, what you’ll find is tender soft piano, and immaculate melancholy, or as Claire herself puts it: “heart-wrenching beauty.”

Embodiment is at its heart, a solo piano composition. Claire said that as soon as it was finished, she knew she wanted the piece to have a cello accompaniment, so she contacted the talented Jami Seiber, and after being turned down once as Jami was busy working on her own album, she was finally swayed when she heard the recorded piece, and this gorgeous collaboration got underway.

Embodiment is a slow, rhythmically fluid composition with a potent dose of melancholia from the New Orleans-based composer Claire Bigley. It is then accentuated by a devastated, rich cello performance from Jami Seiber. The cellos are layered and the sound is lush, despite being serene and ambient. “Embodiment” sounds delicate, warm, and heartfelt, and the minimal, curious soundscapes are inviting and compelling.

Embodiment is an inspired composition by a talented pianist. There isn’t much more to be said to describe the magic that such a simple duet can have when implemented and utilized properly. Bigley and Seiber do just that and to sublime results.

Skirmish by Earthtones Trio

0

What we will find on the newest single from Earthtones Trio, titled SoundTracks, is an inspired marriage of Folk, Classical, and Contemporary Jazz. One that’s executed with exceptional precision and soul.

The Glasgow-based trio is the brainchild of Scottish composer and Arranger Euan Stevenson. Drawing inspiration from the people, locales, and landmarks of, and surrounding Falkirk, Sound Tracks is a celebration of the composer’s town of birth, a celebration that’s delivered truly from heart to heart, as you will feel the rich, vibrant daylight life in Skirmish, and the fragrant, romantic, and peaceful atmospheres in Wheel Slowly Turning, with both songs featuring intricate, impassioned performances from the talented players.

The double-sided single starts with the interesting, and entertaining Skirmish. Twisting, nuanced melodies are effortlessly delivered, primarily through Flautist Katherine Bryan’s inspired performance, and Euan’s rich, layered, and atmospheric piano composition. The unsettled rhythms are a primary delivery method for the jubilant, playful sound, that despite a composition dense with harmonic darkness and ample dissonance, manages to stay sounding upbeat and hearty, albeit in a peculiar, difficult-to-describe fashion. Following Skirmish is the stunning Wheel Slowly Turning. Driven, once more, by an outstanding flute part from Katherine, this piece features a sublime string section, led by a gut-wrenching cello part courtesy of Betsy Taylor. The main motif, delivered by the piano, carries within it hope, lament, and sorrow. Hope when unaccompanied, lament when it is accompanied by the contemplative cello wails, and sorrow when backed with the entire arrangement, at those moments, the full emotive force of the piece is delivered, for moments that are incredibly potent and gorgeous.

Earthtones Trio is a masterful group whose sound is incredibly rich for a trio, showing massive musicianship, and highlighting in particular, Euan Stevenson’s delightful ear for arrangements. Those delicate, intricate compositions are equally and concurrently musically rich, intricate, and intelligent, yet accessible, effortless, and direct. Truly sublime.

Hard to Find by Ali George

0

Ali George’s latest single’s name might be an apt description for the man himself.

A sensual singer/songwriter from Bath, Ali’s body of work is lengthy and varied. Having started playing guitar at the wee age of six, he joined his first band at ten and started rocking live venues just one year after. He was just sixteen when he decided that a change of artistic direction was what he needed, as he traded in his electric and got an acoustic that he quickly took around for solo gigs in intimate pubs and cafes around Bath and the surrounding locales. At this point, Ali has released 6 albums of original material that have entered the British National Library’s Permanent Record Collection, managing all the while to evade the spotlight… intentionally or not.

Hard to Find is a sweet song that touches on a number of topics that most listeners will find immediately relatable. Ali goes on to sing about the everyday struggles that people face trying to pursue their dreams amid the hectic pressures of work. He also discusses the difficulties of lockdown restrictions, and the difficulty of living with someone in a lockdown situation, a situation that the vast majority of us will have no problem relating to.

How Ali does this through a delightful, acoustic guitar-based arrangement that’s warm, inviting, and encourages contemplation. The tight, small sound is courtesy of a rhythmic guitar performance that’s effortless and natural, delicately jumping between masterful chord stabs, and colorful lead melodies, all while accommodating Ali’s understated singing style that sounds cozy and heartfelt. The song also boasts a stunning string arrangement that adds incredible depth and detail to the otherwise simple, direct composition.

Ali George may have inadvertently evaded the spotlight in spite of his years of experience, but this carries very little weight when you’re faced with his immaculate vibes and intimate songs, and lyrical choices. As far as I am concerned, Ali George can remain our precious hidden treasure, if that means that he continues providing songs as rich and reaffirming as Hard to Find.

It’s Who You Are by Tally Koren

0

Artist Tally Koren based in London, released an uplifting and hugely inspirational pop song called ‘ Who you are’, a great outake on commercial music with a new sound for us, on the 18th of November. Koren is an independent artist who is a fringe award winner for best singer and songwriter in 2011. She loves to inspire people to shine and embrace who they are with no apologies. She produced her new track along with Phil Curran, featuring the up and coming billboard charted rapper Chillz Muzzic.

Absolutely motivational and profoundly different than any commercial music so far, this song is about being yourself and the destiny that follows it. But Tally reminds us that it’s what we do that creates this ultimate path. The overall sound of the song is bright with a sexy undertone. The soundscape is pop with hints of synth dreamy sound effects at the back that create subtle softness to the pop genre. The melody is soaring with high spirits and a medium pace. The musical arrangement is simple yet powerful in conveying the message and overall aesthetic of the song with Tally’s voice. There are prominent drums that hit only once leading the beat and light piano rhythms. The rapping definitely gives a nice edge to the song and the vocals are strong and clear, Tally’s voice is also very soothing. Hit the play button for a different pop taste.

Filofax by ROGUE FX

0

The post-modern age scammers and the 80’s classic electro synth-wave mashed up in a single production.

The 80’s inspired synth-pop artist Rogue FX from Durham, UK released a brand new track titled “Filofax” that demonstrates the financial greed a person might be and mixing it with some dance upbeats with synths all over the place and electro-pop dance melodies.

The track is a criticism for those who are willing to do anything to make more money at all costs, as the track begins with an arcade video game theme sound casting a theme that it’s a race and that person must win it.

Bass and synth surely dominate the overall sound of the track keeping the general vibe of electro music, with vocals having an influence of a semi-robot effect boosting the 80’s electro-pop vibe, but I believe that vocals needed a bit of a touch of modernity to it to make it sound newer and to make the listener not to question the release date of this track if it was released in the 80’s or not; an auto-tune effect for instance.

Play the track and tell us what you think.

Where Your Love Lives by Cynthia Hamar

0

Some photographs throw us back in time to our nostalgic eye-tearing past, for all those good times of our childhood. Well, how about videos? Those 90’s video tapes recorded of your childhood, bet you got one of your own that wets your eyes leaving your mind wondering about how your heart is yearning to run back to that home of your childhood when everything made sense.

The Canadian folk artist Cynthia Hamar released a mesmerizing track titled ‘Where Your Love Lives’ with an even more expressive music video that boosted the meaning and vibe of the track.

The track begins with a warm raw piano sound that is followed by a fingerstyle guitar soothing riff that puts you in the vibe on the spot as the music video shows real home footage of Hamar and her family that sends out a word that “Home is where your love lives”.

The music is somewhat joyful and playful. However, Hamar’s vocals are grieving and in despair longing for home and the nostalgic theme it casts. Though it needed to gain a bit more quality and eliminate the background noise that made it hard to clearly hear the notes and lyrics Hamar offers.

Where Your Love Lives’ is a soul-touching experience with very emotional aspects that resonate throughout the track and it pretty much reminded me of Ed Sheeran’s Photograph” and how emotional I always go just by playing it; maybe the home footage gets me.

I felt lucky to review such a track cause it personally touched my soul and reminded me of my childhood footage and how it felt like home back then when the ones that we loved were still full of essence.

Another track was added to my favorite playlist, don’t you want to add tracks too?
