Meet Me on the Lake by Emma Miller

0

After a 2-year hiatus, Emma Miller is making a strong comeback with her new single “Meet Me on the Lake” gliding slowly through our ears and leaving us in a calm, meditative state of mind. The song leans toward the ambient music genre with its overall dreamy atmosphere. It sets you in a dream with the echoing vocal line that creates layers with its canon effect and the arpeggiated piano chords creating a melodic drone.

But apart from her remarkable songwriting skills and dreamy vocals, Miller is taking her music to the future and revolutionizing it through her music releases on the blockchain. She dropped her first music NFT last month with “Meet Me on the Lake” on a limited run of 10 editions with artwork painted by her mother, Lesley Miller. Her collection sold out in less than 48 hours, placing her as no. 11 on the Music NFT Charts, almost taking Snoop Dogg.

This is only the beginning, as the artist plans on releasing a series of music NFTs in the next few months and a new EP alert by the end of this year. Emma Miller is shaping the future of music in her way and paving the way for the artists of her generation and the ones after her.  I can’t wait to see what she’s up to next and I’d keep a close eye on her Twitter and Instagram accounts for upcoming news and releases.

EP Review: Forced Extrovert by Maddy Storm

0

A newborn pop artist came to town with some dope music. “Maddy Storm” in her new EP “Forced Extrovert” introduces us to her modern tunes. Maddy has created 6 songs that have different aesthetics and vibes. She is showing her emotional and intimate side of some real feelings, which directly appeal to the heart and thoughts of the listener.

The EP intro is a minute and a half of electronic instrumental pop calling it “Forced Extrovert” which has some mixed tunes in it that will get you a bit confused, but after the opening, it seamlessly transitions to the following song “Mattress” that dives you into her world with her soft voice. Many listeners paid close attention to the song, and the official video was beautifully created with her divine appearance.

After “Mattress,” the third song “Spit Me Out” plays, giving you the impression that something from the first song connects the lyrics and music that ends a beautiful story.

She conveys a mood of control in “Backhanded” which has a different atmosphere then comes, “Last Resort” which has a devilish vibe that she can control in her voice that speaks of healing out of a toxic relationship,

Then the EP’s final song, “Natural Disaster,” highlights her masterful abilities, showing off a refuge of her mind as she thoroughly explores herself in this EP.

Bluey Orange by Jakliu

0

Peppery, peppy, and summery vibraphone pangs flutter all around the playfully fractured, glassy percussion, in this syncopated, fluttering, Calypso-inspired hit.

Jakliu is the alias under which the Dublin native Jack Lewins releases his articulate electronica. Self-taught, passionate, and very talented, his music is electronically produced and artfully crafted. The song we have at hand today is the single, Bluey Orange. Bluey Orange is Accessible, yet intelligent. Very inviting and open keyboard sounds play in syncopation with the dancy, groovy, liquid yet solid rhythms. With subtle clips of softly uttered words give this song a sense of character and relatability. A beautiful piece of work that would fit right in a comparison with masterminds like Caribou or Four Tet.

Do not underestimate Jakliu. He has a keen mind and a sharp sense of place with his music, carefully curating sounds that will surely paint the picture he has in mind, transporting us to a tropical beach with a mildly warm and inviting sun with the fewest of grand musical shifts or harmonic choices. Simple, effective, and brilliant.

FROM THE TOP FLOOR EP by Pink Films

0

From The Top Floor is the debut EP from Brighton, UK-based artist Pink Films. The project is the musical child of Adam Hailstone and the two years he spent writing these songs. Composed of 4 songs, an intro track, and a small interlude, the album lies somewhere on the spectrum between Indie/Alt Rock and Classic Rock. The album got its name as Adam was staying in the top floor flat above two other flats below him, and it was entirely recorded in his bedroom. Let’s check it out and see how well it holds up.

The intro has a cool synth and an electronic upbeat drumming pattern which set the mood for what’s about to come. The first full track, “Turquoise”, has all the elements you need from a good Alt Rock song. The summer vibes that the clean guitar gives, the rich bassline, and Adam’s soothing baritone voice make this a great track to listen to while kicking back and relaxing by the beach. The following track, “Cherry Strands”, is a little slower and has a very cool-sounding falsetto vocal line in its pre-chorus. The chorus shows a delayed drum fill that begins just when the chorus is about to finish. There is a surprising groovy part near the end that made me headbang, and is a very beautiful contradiction to the song’s overall soft vocals. The fourth track, “1965”, is an interlude with a piano and synths that are very reminiscent of 80s pop-rock. The fifth track, “M.A.D (Movie’s Almost Done)”, has a very poppy electronic drumbeat and more head voice/falsetto vocal lines, but the guitar and bass lines are so beautifully intertwined that you’ll wonder how such an arrangement works without real drums. The last song, “A Trip To Paris”, brings those 80s vibes once again with its dancy beat and keyboard lines. The lyrics of this song discuss being true to oneself and living the way we really want to, and I just love how such emotions can be conveyed in an upbeat and energetic track.

To think that this album took 2 years to be written and recorded in the bedroom of the top-floor apartment of Adam Hailstone would point you in the direction of thinking this would be a collection of some indie boyish singer-songwriter pop rock tracks. But to everybody’s surprise, this album succeeds in the mission it had: to convey strong emotions and heavy subject matter in energetic and uplifting songs. This track shows so much potential considering it’s a debut release, and I can tell full-length records and live shows from Pink Films are gonna be larger than life and garner mainstream appeal and success.

Waiting for the World by Phoenix Rose

0

When we wait for validation from others and only like ourselves when we feel they like us, we start to fade, and nothing can bring us back to being a whole ball of light that shines everywhere except loving and embracing ourselves. Phoenix Rose’s “Waiting for the World” is an inspiring anthem that will be there for you to remind you of this fact whenever you get lost.

Rachel Rose, a London-based passionate artist, is back with a bang, choosing Phoenix Rose as her alter ego, a bold hybrid sound for her artistic identity, and a sincere intention to use her music to reach people, describe them, and be a loud voice for them.

“Waiting for the World” is driven by a moving message, a vibrant rhythm, and an ethereal, powerful vocal line. It subtly depicts how someone can be lost, searching for answers in the wrong places and for love in unfulfilling sources. With a heartfelt atmosphere, the lyrics deliver the ultimate answer: “All I need is to love myself.”

Like the magical creature, the phoenix rises from the ashes, beautifully and stronger than ever. That’s how the song sounds and feels. Phoenix Rose has a velvet voice to shine a light on your inner darkness and a strong yet amiable vocal ability to plant self-love belief within your soul.

The single’s fusion sound gives an empowering, atmospheric sense. It has an electronic flair that offers a mood lift, with a Soul and R&B clear touch that adds a dreamy, encouraging vibe. The compulsive arrangement makes you sing along and vibe. The instruments also sing along energetically with Rose’s voice to give your ears a treat and your soul a positive push.

Phoenix Rose has mesmerizing vocal and musical abilities, as well as a significant purpose. “Waiting for the World” came out a few days ago, and I’m already anticipating her next piece of art.

Collection 2 by Leopold Michalak

0

German-born Italy-based composer Leopold Michalak just released his latest record, Collection 2 which is composed of 10 tracks. The compositions lie on the avant-garde and ambient spectrum while also borrowing some elements from classical, modern contemporary, and cinematic/movie scores. Let’s see what this new album from the unique composer has to offer.

The first track, Scene 1, begins with some raindrops on a metal tent that give the feeling of loneliness and being scared. Later on, some tribal percussion and synths with effects join the mix, making this an ambient track fit for an independent thriller movie. I’m already loving the vibe. The second track, Unter Tage, increases the loneliness vibes not just from its name (Unter Tage means underground in German), but also from the keyboard melody and tribal percussion that made me feel like someone is following me in an underground tunnel or cave. After 3 minutes of the 7-minute track have passed, the tribal percussion progresses into a very oriental-sounding innuendo that may or may not be related to urban myths and legends. The sound puts you in that feeling of being among harmful supernatural creatures that are chasing after you. The last minute of the song was the only part that felt like a ray of hope had appeared in the middle of the terrifying myths. Bei Nacht Und Nebel, which translates to “In night and fog”, continues in the same fashion of using the raindrop sounds followed by the oriental sounds. A very bass-rich arrangement made this piece feel groovier than all the previous arrangements. This track consolidates the Arabian nightmare vision that the album is trying to paint in the listener’s mind so far. Slug has some low-pitched sounds that feel like humming, with some strange and distorted sounds which suggest the noises we heard prior could be those of slugs or opportunistic creatures in a claustrophobic sewer or underground tunnel.

Clocking in at 10 minutes, Gnadenwald is the album’s longest track and it makes use of that long duration to emphasise and strengthen the feelings of loneliness and being surveilled by a strange being. More tribal drums and samples on the synth make this track sound like a horror movie, and it’s also the most experimental one out of the bunch. The track has a calm interlude and then all the previous samples and rudimentary sounds recur to intensify the horrific situation the piece gives you when you hear it. Scene 2 and Scene 3 have very different flavours woven within their melodies. With the former being entirely synths without the tribal beats or melodic parts, and the latter having some piano/keys that sound like an homage to classical composers, you begin to see that Leopold is a master in transferring the way he feels. Error once again shows a tribal beat (leaning more towards Asian and Turkic cultures) but it builds a time signature and starts the percussion on a sample of footsteps and a person that’s panting. This man’s creativity is so unpredictable. Near the end of the track, I felt like I was listening to a DJ or Hip-Hop producer from how coherent these elements became. Baroque showcases that Leopold is in fact inspired and loves that particular era of music. The track wants you to compromise and give apologies at its start, but then with the rising tension, you begin to feel some hidden darkness and rage that feels like the song is evoking a more violent response to any fearsome beings or situations of entrapment around the listener. The tension kept arising to a time when the beat felt like an actual horror movie beat, especially with the background vocals of a wailing woman.

The tenth and final track, Dem Winde, is 7 minutes long and begins with some vintage-sounding keys before progressing into that modern electronica sound with the hip-hop elements that we heard before. This guy is really unpredictable with his artistic choices. More bass-rich melodies and arrangements shape this up to be the tribal dance fest y’all asked for.

At the end of the day, Collection 2 cannot be described as an electronica record or a classical record. Not even ambient and avant-garde would be sufficient words on their own to explain what’s going on here. From building whole beats based on samples and repeating sounds from real life, I could tell how much. This man’s work is varied and diverse, but at the same time emblematic of his vast array of abilities and influences to choose from when composing. This is a rare instance when I can say this is a 10/10 record for me.

FLOW by Prana Voice

0

The sophomore single from UK-based singer-songwriter Antonello Brunetti is a 10-minute journey down the path of spiritual healing entitled FLOW. The song and its accompanying music video both have scenes and sound samples from the crashing of waves, which is only one of the many relaxing elements here. The soft acoustic guitar fluidly progresses between the chords it plays. One of the sound samples that appear with the said guitar is a resonant and reverbed vocal line that adds to the whole feel of being in a nature camp or an outdoor group therapy session. These are the kind of sounds you can kick back and relax while playing with your earphones by the beach. The wonderful decision of making the piece in 432Hz also gave the track a fertile atmosphere for opening up to the forces of nature and taking them in with all their glory. I can easily say that the moment I played FLOW I instantly felt like time stopped and all background noises were shut. On my second and third listens I began to notice slight variations between the melodies that the guitars and synths are doing. If you need to get the effects of a deep meditation session without actually going to one, then I recommend listening to this track and making it lure you into its calming energy.

EP: Love Like a Fire by WIESINGER

0

Wiesinger is a Canadian-based band made up of Justin Wiesinger as Lead singer/Acoustic guitar, Chelsey Wiesinger on Drums and Percussion, and Daniel Bellerose on Electric guitar/Keys. They released their newest album “Love like a fire” made up of 6 songs; Fault Line, Selfless, Shine a light, Love like a fire, Lobotomy, and Dummy.

Firstly, I really loved the cover art for the album; super trippy and I absolutely loved the fusion of colors. At first, listening to the album, I felt like the band reminds me of Maroon 5/ One republic; from the lyrics to the vocals and the instruments. My first favorite song was lobotomy (acoustic); the acoustic guitars really got to me. And Justin’s vocals were really harmonious along with the beautiful guitar. My second favorite song was dummy, it was beautifully heartbreaking, along with the guitar and keys. The song enjoyed least was Shine a light, it felt basic yet the mixing was well-curated.

All in all, I really liked the album. It was well made, with beautiful instrumentals and a passionate voice, I was totally sold on it. It is great to see more Canadian artist emerging and really setting a precedent in the Canadian music scene. I hope this album puts them in the spotlight, alongside their (well-earned) hundreds of thousands of Spotify streams.

EP: Dose of Oxytocin by Elion Melody

0

This one really threw me back to the modern-classic ages of R&B and Soul, it’s a mashup of sounds that you once heard when you were young back in the 00’s that makes you hit a 15-year time traveling experience.

From the hearts of New York, the R&B/Soul artist Elion Melody releases his debut EP titled ‘Dose of Oxytocin’ containing five tracks loaded with love & affection vibes accompanied by the sounds of the streets of New York.

Dose of Oxytocin’ is composed of smooth jams and melodies that swing inside your ears and makes you dance along, yearning for a partner to dance with to these sweet tunes.

The overall musical theme is directed to cast some affection and the title of the EP is accurate for the oxytocin it pumps through the flow of Elion and his romantic vibe lyrics to magnetize anyone who is listening into love and affection. The influences of the likes of T-Pain & Trey Songz are easily recognizable in the music and vocal flow of Elion, it reminded me of Trey’s early hits.

Lyrics are selected precisely to match the musical theme and the flow with the overall objectified vibe, though the lyrics sounded a bit cheesy at some parts but they did their job in making the whole picture sound Oxytocin-full.
